Move several apps together

Go to the iPhone Home Screen. Touch and hold an app until the icons jiggle. You can also touch and hold the Home Screen background until items jiggle, as described in Apple’s iPhone User Guide.

Keep your finger on one app and drag it slightly to start carrying it.

While continuing to hold the first app, tap each additional app icon with another finger. An Apple Support Community post describes the selected icons stacking under the held finger and showing a count.

Drag the stack to the desired location. To move toward another Home Screen page, drag it to the screen edge and pause for the next page to appear. Apple documents this edge-drag behavior for moving apps or widgets between pages; its guide does not specifically describe the behavior for a stack.

Release the stack where you want the apps. To create a folder, Apple’s documented method is to drag one app onto another; you can then drag additional apps into the folder. The retrieved official instructions do not establish that dropping a multi-app stack into a folder works as a combined action.

Finish editing by pressing the Home button on iPhone models that have one, or tapping the Home Screen background on other models.

If the stack gesture does not work

Make sure the icons are jiggling before you start dragging; otherwise you have not entered Home Screen edit mode.

Keep the first finger pressed on the initial app while tapping the others with another finger. Lifting the held finger interrupts the stacking gesture described in the community post.

If you only need to move one app, use the standard method in Apple’s iPhone User Guide: drag the app to a new location, or toward the screen edge to change pages.

What Apple’s instructions establish
Apple’s current iPhone User Guide explains how to enter Home Screen editing, move apps or widgets, change pages, and finish editing. Apple Support also documents creating folders and adding apps to them in its Home Screen and App Library guide. The gesture for selecting multiple icons into a stack, by contrast, is described in an Apple Support Community post rather than those retrieved official instructions.
