The MOVA LiDAX Pro 800 is sized and equipped for a small lawn, but one reviewer’s obstacle tests raise a serious caution for anyone expecting it to reliably stop around people and objects. Gizmodo’s Wes Davis reported that his test mower pushed into his leg, rammed a garden bed when detection was off, and knocked over a ceramic pot when it was on. Those are observations from one review unit—not evidence of a failure rate across all LiDAX Pro 800 mowers—but they make obstacle behavior the key question to resolve before buying.
Who the LiDAX Pro 800 is designed for
MOVA lists the LiDAX Pro 800 for a maximum mapped area of 0.2 acre. Compare that figure with the lawn the robot can actually mow, not the total size of your property: buildings, beds, paths, and other excluded areas do not count as mowable grass. Its compact-yard specification is promising on paper, but capacity alone does not tell you whether it can cross your lawn’s transitions or avoid what is in its path.

The manufacturer’s listed hardware includes 360-degree 3D LiDAR with AI vision, rear-wheel drive, a 7.9-inch cutting width, a 1.2–3.9-inch cutting-height range, and a 4 Ah battery. MOVA rates mowing time at 60–80 minutes per charge and charging time at 60 minutes. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. See the MOVA LiDAX Pro 800 product listing.

What happened in the obstacle tests
In his September 28, 2026 review, Davis says the mower pushed into his leg on the second day of testing rather than stopping and routing around him. He also placed a roughly leg-sized log in its path as a rough lift test: the mower climbed it, and its blade deactivated when the lift sensor triggered. Davis said that result did not establish that a child’s foot would be protected.
With object detection disabled, he reports that the mower repeatedly rammed a raised garden bed, stopping only after a vine wrapped around it and lifted a rear wheel. With recognition enabled, it knocked over a small ceramic pot and ran into it again; after the pot’s taper briefly lifted the mower, it resumed mowing when it landed. In that same area, it consistently avoided a Bluey bouncy ball. These individual examples show inconsistent outcomes in the tested situations, not a measured detection rate.
Davis quoted a MOVA PR representative saying, “The LiDAX Pro 800 uses several layers of obstacle protection,” referring to AI vision avoidance, LiDAR-based avoidance, and a bumper sensor. The representative said the reported issues were not experienced “on a widespread basis” and that MOVA was investigating the review unit. Davis also reported that MOVA planned an October update intended to improve object detection. The review does not establish that the update was released or that it corrected the behavior. Setup, mapping, and day-to-day mowing
Davis’s setup involved plugging in and staking the dock, switching on the mower with its security key and power button, then adding it to the MOVAhome app by scanning a QR code. He says the mower has no onboard display. He mapped the test unit by manually driving it around each lawn perimeter using the app. The process took him about an hour while he documented it; he estimated roughly 30 minutes without that overhead. Those are his experience and estimate, not guaranteed setup times.
There is a difference between that reported workflow and MOVA’s product listing, which describes “Remote Control + AI-Assisted Auto Mapping.” The review does not verify the automatic-mapping capability; its account of the test unit is specifically a manual perimeter mapping process.
Once the test areas were mapped, Davis says LiDAR navigation kept the mower on task and gave his side yard an even trim. He could set cutting height, choose mowing direction, and adjust edge-obstacle behavior in the app. The blades do not shift sideways, however, so the mower leaves more distance from structures than designs with side-shifting blades.

Terrain, runtime, and lawn finish
MOVA rates maximum climbing ability at 45% (24°), but Davis’s tests encountered practical limits beyond a slope rating: the mower became stuck at hard transitions such as raised pavers and spun its wheels on uneven ground. He criticized the front caster wheels and rear-wheel traction. Before choosing this model, check the actual route between lawn sections, including raised edging, pavers, dips, and changes in level; a nominal slope figure does not demonstrate that a robot will handle every transition.

Davis reports that one 1,500-square-foot mowable area took about two hours, ending with approximately 19% battery remaining. That was one yard observation, not a general coverage guarantee, and it is distinct from MOVA’s 60–80-minute per-charge specification. He recommends the usual robotic-mower pattern of frequent light cuts—every couple of days rather than weekly or biweekly—and says the mower was quiet enough for nighttime operation.
For buyers comparing models, consider the details that affect your own layout: usable mapped area, obstacles around people and pets, traction over uneven ground and transitions, whether mapping is manual or automatic in practice, edge distance, and how runtime fits the lawn. The reviewed sources do not provide a controlled head-to-head comparison with competing mowers.

Care, storage, and included items
MOVA’s package list includes the robot, charging station, power supply, manual, quick-start guide, cleaning brush, and nine spare blades with nine screws. Confirm the exact compatible blade part before ordering replacements.
MOVA’s operating and storage guidance applies to the LiDAX Pro 800. It advises against mowing frost-covered lawns and recommends operation above 6°C. For extended non-use, it recommends disconnecting the equipment and storing it in a dry, cool place at 0–25°C. Hose rinsing is acceptable; pressure washing is not. MOVA also warns that trampoline crossbars can trap the mower and recommends marking that area as a no-go zone. The company’s operating and storage guidance was updated May 15, 2026.

Should you buy the MOVA LiDAX Pro 800?
It is a plausible candidate for a small, clearly mapped lawn if its edge distance and terrain limits suit your yard. Davis’s even-trim report and the app’s height and direction controls are positives; his leg, garden-bed, and pot incidents are a substantial reason for caution. His review concerns one mower, and neither it nor the manufacturer’s response establishes how frequently such behavior occurs across other units.
If your lawn is used by children or pets, or includes loose objects and delicate beds near the mowing route, do not assume that AI vision, LiDAR, a bumper sensor, or the log lift test guarantees protection. Assess whether you can supervise operation and keep vulnerable areas outside its mapped route. Also check the mower’s transitions and uneven spots against your own yard rather than relying solely on MOVA’s maximum-climbing specification.
