The Motorola Razr Ultra (2026) is worth considering if you specifically want a premium flip phone with a large, interactive cover screen and strong battery capacity—but its $1,499.99 US launch price makes it a harder recommendation for anyone focused on value, long-range zoom, or a substantial upgrade over the 2025 model. Its biggest strengths are the compact folding design, 4-inch outer display, 7-inch inner display and 5,000mAh battery. Its main drawbacks are the higher price, familiar design, lack of a dedicated telephoto camera and charging results that depend on the adapter and setup.

What you get for the price
Motorola announced a US MSRP of $1,499.99. Preorders opened May 14, 2026, through Motorola.com, Best Buy and Amazon.com, with unlocked sales beginning May 21. The price is the central drawback. Engadget reported a $200 increase over the previous generation, while Engadget and Android Central questioned the value given how much of the design and platform carry over. That does not make the phone a poor choice at every price: a discount, or a strong preference for a premium flip, can change the calculation. Compare its current price with discounted 2025 models and conventional flagship phones rather than treating the launch MSRP as its only possible cost.
Why the flip design and cover screen stand out
The Razr Ultra folds into a smaller clamshell footprint than a conventional slab phone, then opens to a 7-inch display. Its 4-inch external screen is large enough to make the closed-phone experience a meaningful part of the product, rather than just a place to check the time. Android Central lists 165Hz refresh rates for both screens and a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The practical case for buying it is therefore not simply that it folds: it is that you want a pocketable form without giving up a large inner display, and expect to use the outer screen regularly.

If you do not value that combination, a standard flagship may be a better use of the money. A book-style foldable serves a different need: it opens into a larger, tablet-like workspace rather than prioritizing a compact folded shape. The Razr’s advantages are specific to the flip format, not a universal improvement over other phone designs.
Battery and charging: good capacity, qualified results
The phone has a 5,000mAh battery, as reported in specifications by Tom’s Guide and Android Authority. Tom’s Guide measured 16 hours and 20 minutes in its battery drain test; that is a result under that publication’s test protocol, not a promise of the same runtime in everyday use. Screen settings, signal conditions, workload and other usage differences affect how long any individual phone lasts.

Charging claims also need context. Engadget says a special power adapter is needed to reach peak charging speed. Android Authority reported that its own setup did not approach 30W despite using a Motorola 68W charger. These reviewer observations do not establish a universal charging rate, and a 68W-branded charger alone should not be taken as a guarantee of peak speed. Check the phone’s compatibility requirements and the conditions for the advertised rate before buying an adapter.

Reviewers identify the upgraded main-camera sensor as a meaningful improvement. There is no dedicated telephoto camera. Android Authority notes that crop-based zoom loses quality at higher magnification, so the Razr Ultra is not the best fit if distant subjects—such as performers on a stage or wildlife—are a frequent priority. The camera upgrade is more compelling for main-camera use than as an all-purpose answer to every zoom need.

Engadget and Android Central describe the chassis as essentially unchanged from the prior generation. That familiarity may be welcome if you liked the earlier model, but it makes the higher price harder to justify as a major design refresh.

Case fit has a specific hardware constraint: Motorola Support identifies a rear air vent and warns that a case must not obstruct it, because blocked airflow may cause noise during calls or media playback. Check that a case leaves the vent clear; no particular case model is established here as compatible.

The available sources do not establish a real-world screen or hinge failure rate, so they cannot settle how reliably the phone will hold up over years of folding. Who should buy the Razr Ultra (2026)?
- Consider it if you want the compact flip form, expect to use the 4-inch cover display, and are comfortable paying a premium for that experience.
- Compare prices first if you are upgrading from the 2025 model: the $200 launch-price increase and limited redesign make the value case depend heavily on current discounts and how much you want the new features.
- Look elsewhere if long-distance zoom is important, because there is no dedicated telephoto lens.
- Compare with a conventional flagship if you do not need a folding screen; the Razr’s premium is easiest to defend when its form factor is the point.
- Choose with care if you expect proven long-term foldable reliability: the evidence cited here does not provide failure-rate data.
