If you often use your phone one-handed or dislike a heavy device, the Edge 70 has the clearer advantage. Choose the Nord 5 if you would rather have a larger handset and display than prioritize minimal bulk.

The Nord 5 gives you more screen area and the higher stated refresh rate, which may appeal for gaming and scrolling. The Edge 70 is still a high-resolution, high-refresh display; there is no objective winner for viewing comfort or color preference in these specifications alone.

Which is better for gaming and performance?
On listed processor tier, the Nord 5 has the advantage: TechRadar identifies its chip as the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, while Motorola lists the Edge 70 with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. That makes the Nord 5 the more plausible pick for demanding games and workloads, but it does not prove it will be faster in every task. No matched lab test of these two phones was established.
TechRadar’s reviewer measured a Geekbench multi-core average of 5,147 over three tests on the 12GB/512GB Nord 5. That is a result for that Nord 5 review unit, not a head-to-head score or a prediction of performance in every game. Real gaming experience also depends on the game, settings, cooling and software.

Battery capacity varies by model and market. Motorola UK lists the Edge 70 at 4,800mAh typical capacity (4,655mAh rated, according to Motorola’s battery disclosure). TechRadar reports 5,200mAh for the UK Nord 5 review version and 6,800mAh for Nord 5 variants in Australia and India. These figures should not be treated as universal across regions. Motorola advertises up to 50 hours for the Edge 70 under optimal conditions and says actual results vary; that is a manufacturer claim, not a comparative battery test.

The Nord 5 has the higher stated wired charging rate; the Edge 70 is the one with listed wireless charging. Check the exact regional box contents and charger compatibility before relying on maximum wired speeds.

Which phone is more durable?
Motorola lists IP68/IP69 protection and MIL-STD 810H for the Edge 70. The comparison article reports an IP65 rating for the Nord 5. These are protection ratings, not guarantees that a phone cannot be damaged, and they do not establish how either device will fare after an impact or in every exposure scenario. If stated ingress protection is a priority, the Edge 70 has the stronger listed ratings.
How do software and storage compare?
Motorola UK lists the Edge 70 with Android 16, 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. TechRadar reported UK Nord 5 launch prices of £399 for 8GB/256GB and £499 for 12GB/512GB in 2025. These launch figures are from different markets and dates, so they do not establish which phone is cheaper to buy today. Compare local listings for the same storage configuration before deciding whether the Edge 70’s design and charging features justify any price difference.
Which one should you buy?
- Choose the Motorola Edge 70 if a 159g, 5.99mm body, 15W wireless charging, its stated IP68/IP69 protection, or the 50MP autofocus ultrawide best fits your priorities.
- Choose the OnePlus Nord 5 if you want the larger 6.83-inch 144Hz display, the higher-tier listed processor, faster stated wired charging, or a lower documented UK launch price that still needs checking against current local offers.
