The categories below describe what markers are useful for; they are not a verified list of exact retail menu labels or icon designs.
What the map markers help you find
Think of marker groups by purpose rather than by remembered symbol or color. The available guide describes functional categories, but does not verify every label or icon in the current retail game interface.

| Marker group | Useful for |
|---|---|
| Navigation anchors | Orienting around named regions, settlements, roads, passes, overlooks, and other recognizable locations. |
| Beacons and rest points | Finding a place to stop or regroup before exploring farther. |
| Dungeons and interiors | Separating enclosed destinations from overworld locations. |
| Shells and weapons | Focusing on potential new combat options. |
| Pickups and materials | Sweeping an opened area for resources and missed items. |
| Interactables and traversal | Finding usable objects or route features, including lifts and elevators. |
| Objectives and special entries | Keeping story destinations or unusual named entries visible while hiding routine finds. |
Which filters to use for each goal
Opening a new area
After using a map fragment to reveal the section, keep a nearby beacon or navigation anchor visible alongside the relevant objective markers. This gives you a destination and a reference point without crowding the map with every optional pickup.
Following story progress
Show objectives and special entries for the named region you are in. A marker can help identify a destination, but the marker alone does not establish the entrance, the route direction, or the order in which an area unlocks.
#1 Best Overall
- THEIR FLESH IS YOUR WEAPON: The corpses of exceptional warriors are scattered throughout Mortal Shell 2’s destroyed world. Once discovered, each warrior can be possessed, awakening their innate strengths and mastered abilities. Evolve your own style of combat by harnessing the unique abilities of each warrior and unlock their secrets through the discovery of lost memories.
- CLEANSE A RAVAGED WORLD: Mortal Shell 2’s compact open world connects over winding footpaths guarded by desperate and fanatical adversaries. Players who wander are rewarded with new warriors to possess, additional story elements, powerful and strange weaponry, upgrades, curiosities and more. Step through derelict temples of ancient deities, across forbidden forests and icy graves, into citadels carved out of bone. Scattered between these lost landmarks are more than 60 dungeons, each providing a challenging test of the talents and weaponry you have collected on your journey.
- DETHRONE FALSE GODS: You control the Harbinger, a being that must reclaim the Undermether’s stolen eggs that are now ruthlessly guarded by grotesque, dangerous creatures. Mortal Shell 2’s combat system is agile and expressive. Stamina gauges are removed, and execution options have been enhanced, delivering a kinetic and chaotic dark power fantasy. Precision meets intensity in high-stakes combat.
Finding a Shell or weapon
Once the surrounding terrain is visible, narrow the map to Shell or weapon markers. The unofficial guide says separate categories can help distinguish equipment placed along different routes; use the region and nearby terrain to work out an approach.
Exploring an interior
Show dungeon and interior markers for the region you are exploring. This separates enclosed destinations from overworld points of interest.

Cleaning up missed resources
When the main destination is handled, switch from progress markers to pickups, materials, interactables, and traversal points. If you are trying to reduce backtracking, pick one route anchor and one optional branch, clear that branch, and return to the anchor before opening another. That is route-planning advice, not a required game rule.
Reveal fog, then plan by region and landmark
- Reveal the map section. Use a map fragment to uncover the fogged territory described by the guide.
- Identify the named region. Treat the region and destination names as orientation clues, not proof of a specific entrance or unlock sequence.
- Choose a nearby anchor. Look for a beacon or recognizable location that can help you keep your bearings.
- Show only the relevant marker groups. Use objective markers for progression, equipment markers for a Shell or weapon search, or resource and traversal groups for a cleanup pass.
- Check the terrain in-game. Match the marker’s destination name with surrounding landmarks before committing to a route.
How to interpret location names and uncertain markers
Words such as “road,” “pass,” “path,” “cliffs,” “valley,” “grove,” “mire,” and “shoals” can help you identify an area to inspect, but the name by itself does not tell you where to enter, which way to travel, or what must be unlocked first. Use the full region and destination name together with the surrounding terrain.

An extracted marker without a named item is best treated as a location clue until you confirm the pickup or interaction in-game. It may identify a traversal point or technical objective rather than a collectible reward. Avoid assuming that an icon’s appearance proves what it contains.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Are third-party map markers complete for the retail game?
Not necessarily. The Mortal Shell II Fan Wiki labels its interactive pins as Open Beta Build 24459107 and says they are not a complete retail-client map. Its page separately reports 11 map-fragment routes from the launch period—five in Fainweald and six in Mammon—but those are the page’s reported routes, not a verified current retail-client count. See the Fan Wiki map and its build caveat.
Rank #4
A separate unofficial guide describes 54 locations as beta reference data and warns that names, routes, marker categories, rewards, and encounter placement may change. Neither that figure nor a third-party map’s changing total should be treated as the definitive number of retail markers. Read the beta map guide’s coverage notes.
For the same reason, do not rely on exact icon art or a remembered menu label if the interface changes after a patch. Match a marker by its purpose, destination name, and region instead.

Why this map-first approach fits the game
The official Mortal Shell II site describes the sequel as significantly expanding on the original with an emphasis on free exploration. That makes a map workflow based on revealing terrain, choosing a useful anchor, and filtering by goal a practical way to navigate without treating third-party pin sets as a complete route script. Read the official Mortal Shell II site.
