You need the base Monster Hunter Wilds game to play the expansion. PlayStation’s September 3, 2026 preview says players must reach Hunter Rank 40 and complete “Awaking From a Dream” to start the Ascendance story and enter Master Rank at launch. Those are access requirements, not performance requirements.

Why the combat previews do not answer the settings question
The official previews introduce the Boost Bracer and weapon-specific Boosted Actions, but they do not connect any graphics option to aerial combat or measure how settings affect these moves. PlayStation’s preview describes the equipment this way: “The Boost Bracer is a new piece of equipment that enables new abilities via the Hunter’s Slinger.” It also says the Bracer temporarily enhances capabilities across the 14 weapon types, with Boost Driver abilities creating openings before the temporary Boost state.

September 2026 official Steam announcements preview Boosted Actions for all 14 weapon types. These announcements establish gameplay features, not a frame-rate benefit or an aerial-combat setting. No Ascendance-specific graphics setting can currently be recommended from the available official information.
PC driver guidance is dated and applies to the base game
Capcom’s August 13, 2026 Ver. 1.042.00.02 update summary says the latest game version is required for online multiplayer and DLC access. The notice also records efforts to address frame-rate drops in some environments after Ver. 1.042.00.01 and names these driver versions:

- Frame pacing in demanding fights: Compare repeatable scenes with effects and rapid camera movement. Smooth delivery over time matters more than a peak FPS reading alone.
- Resolution and image quality: Check whether lowering an option improves consistency, and whether the resulting loss of detail makes it harder to read combat.
- Upscaling and frame generation: First confirm whether the expansion supports them on your platform. Their availability and impact are not established yet.
- Platform and hardware: Record the platform, hardware, game version, and settings for each comparison; results from one system cannot establish the best choice for another.
For a useful comparison, change one setting at a time and repeat the same scene under similar conditions. Record frame-time consistency as well as average performance, then check whether the action remains visually clear. These are testing methods, not current Ascendance results.
