If the MitID QR code is missing in Firefox for Android, first check whether you are trying to approve a login on the same phone. MitID’s QR flow is for a login displayed on a computer or tablet and scanned with the MitID app on a phone. On the phone displaying the login, use Open MitID app instead. Firefox for Android is not included in MitID’s published list of supported Android browsers, so if the correct approval option is missing or fails, retry in a listed browser.
First check whether the login and MitID app are on the same device

You do not normally scan a QR code displayed on the same phone that has the MitID app. Enter your user ID and tap Open MitID app to hand off the approval to the app. Check the approval details before swiping to approve. If the button is missing or the handoff does not work in Firefox, try the same login in a browser listed for Android by MitID, such as current Google Chrome or Samsung Browser. Firefox is not named in MitID’s published Android browser list, and MitID says other browser combinations are not guaranteed; that does not establish a specific Firefox defect.
Login on a computer or tablet, app on your phone
This is the setup for QR approval: display the login on the computer or tablet, then open the MitID app on your phone and scan the code shown on that other screen. MitID describes this process, including tablet logins, on its QR code or one-time passcode help page.

If the QR code should be on another screen but is missing
MitID says the page may have reloaded, which can make the code disappear. Cancel the approval in the MitID app, return to the login page, and start the login again. MitID’s advice is to reset the approval this way rather than trying to scan an absent code.
For the retry, avoid private or incognito browsing, allow cookies, and make sure JavaScript is enabled. MitID says cookies are required to order or log in with MitID. Its Android requirements list current Chrome, Custom tabs (app-app), and Samsung Browser on Android 10–16; the page identifies this list as current as of February 2024. If the QR code is visible but the app will not scan it
These steps apply only when a code is displayed on the other screen:
- Allow the camera permission requested by the MitID app.
- Increase the brightness of the screen showing the QR code.
- Hold the phone steady and ensure its camera lens is clean and working.
If a QR reader in Firefox itself needs camera access, Mozilla documents the Android permission steps at Grant camera access to Firefox for Android. That permission is separate from the MitID app’s camera access used to scan a code.

Use a passcode if QR approval is not suitable
MitID supports configuring the app to use a four-digit one-time passcode instead of QR approval. MitID says switching to one-time passcodes involves a 24-hour wait before confirmation. A MitID code display is another physical alternative and is available free of charge. Check MitID’s approval options and technical requirements for details.

- Same phone: use Open MitID app; do not expect to scan that phone’s own screen.
- Computer or tablet plus phone: scan the displayed code with the MitID app.
- Code absent on the other screen: cancel the approval and restart the login in a non-private session.
- Code visible but unreadable: check MitID app camera permission, screen brightness, and camera condition.
- Firefox retry still fails: test in an Android browser MitID lists as supported.
MitID’s published guidance does not establish how often this happens or identify a Firefox-specific bug. It establishes that Firefox for Android is not on the published Android browser list.
