The MINISFORUM MS-03 pairs a strong mobile-class processor with unusually flexible storage and fast wired networking, making it a compelling compact workstation for compute-heavy tasks, virtualization, or a high-speed NAS. Its integrated graphics are the major limitation: PCWorld’s tested system had one memory module, which reduced graphics bandwidth, and the system is not a substitute for a workstation or gaming PC with a capable discrete GPU.

What the MS-03 is—and who it suits

The MS-03 is a compact, roughly 1.78-litre workstation built around Intel Core Ultra H-series processors. MINISFORUM lists Core Ultra 9 386H and Core Ultra 5 336H versions; PCWorld reviewed a Core Ultra 9 386H configuration. Check the processor and exact SKU on the product listing and unit label, since PCWorld uses a different model label in one passage.

Its strongest fit is a desk-side system that needs substantial CPU performance, multiple fast storage devices, or several high-speed wired network connections without a tower-sized case. It can also serve as a local inference or virtualization node when the workload fits the available memory and integrated graphics. It is a poor choice if the main requirement is high-end 3D rendering, demanding gaming, or CUDA-dependent software without adding a compatible Nvidia GPU—which the compact expansion slot may not accommodate.

How fast is the reviewed configuration?

PCWorld tested a Core Ultra 9 386H system with 32GB of DDR5-5600 in a single module and a 1TB YMTC PC41Q SSD. Its PCMark 10 score was 9,385, including 11,052 Essentials, 19,591 Productivity, and 10,360 Digital Content Creation points. The review also recorded 25,356 spreadsheet points, 8,864 rendering and visualization points, and 7,545 video-editing points. These are results from that particular system and test setup, not performance guarantees for every MS-03 configuration.

#1 Best Overall
MINISFORUM MS-03 Mini PC Workstation 32GB DDR5 RAM 1TB SSD
  • 【Local AI Workstation Performance】Powered by the Intel Core Ultra 386H processor (16 cores/16 threads, up to 4.9 GHz), the MS-03 is designed for local AI inference, software development, rendering, and demanding multitasking. • 【32 GB DDR5 RAM and 1 TB SSD】With 32 GB of DDR5-7200 RAM and a 1 TB SSD, the MS-03 provides a powerful foundation for AI applications, software development, and demanding multitasking. Three M.2 SSD slots (2× PCIe 5.0 + 1× PCIe 4.0) allow for flexible storage expansion and separate management of the operating system, AI models, and datasets. U.2 enterprise SSDs can also be integrated via an adapter.
  • 【Ready for Enterprise Remote Management】Select MS-03 configurations support Intel vPro technology for remote management, diagnostics, and recovery. The system is suitable for distributed deployments in branch offices, subsidiaries, labs, and remote workstations where centralized IT management and reliable remote support are required.
  • 【High-Speed Networking and Expansion Options】With 2 x 10G SFP+ fiber ports, 1 x 10G RJ45, and 1 x 2.5G RJ45, the MS-03 offers versatile high-speed connectivity for edge computing, NAS, routing, and data-intensive applications. The physical PCIe x16 slot and 2 x USB4 ports allow for further expansion for professional workflows and demanding peripherals.
  • 【Efficient Cooling for Demanding Workloads】Dual heat pipes, a powerful turbo fan, and phase-change thermal interface material ensure efficient heat dissipation and support stable performance during extended AI inference tasks, edge services, and data-intensive applications. The compact workstation design enables reliable operation even under continuous high workloads.

The CPU profile result was 10,232 in 3DMark CPU Profile multi-thread testing. In 3DMark Time Spy, the system scored 2,664 overall, with 2,351 graphics points and 10,931 CPU points. The much lower graphics component illustrates the imbalance: the processor can handle general productivity and compute workloads well, but its integrated GPU is not a high-performance graphics solution.

PCWorld reviewer Christoph Hoffmann attributed a portion of that graphics limitation to the review unit’s memory setup: “The integrated graphics has to share its memory bandwidth with the processor and consequently suffers a noticeable loss of performance.” Because that unit had only one memory module, it ran in single-channel mode. A compatible second module or matched memory kit may improve available bandwidth, but check the exact SKU and memory support before buying; the result will not turn integrated graphics into a discrete GPU.

MINISFORUM separately publishes lab claims of 2,111 single-core and 21,149 multi-core in Cinebench R23 and 3,290 in 3DMark Time Spy. Those are manufacturer figures, not PCWorld’s independent results, and MINISFORUM’s comparison carries its own caveat. Do not compare them directly with PCWorld’s scores as though they came from the same test configuration and conditions.

A cluster of four MS-S1 MAX units successfully ran a DeepSeek-R1 671B Q4 large model. A reserved cluster power-on interface allows for unified start-up and shutdown

AI workloads: useful potential, not a graphics workstation

The MS-03 can be considered for local AI inference, but performance depends on the model, quantization, backend, memory configuration, and software support. MINISFORUM describes a local inference test using a Core Ultra 9 386H, 64GB of memory, a specified llama.cpp build, and a Qwen model; its page says Qwen 35B requires at least 48GB of system memory. Those vendor-specific conditions are not a promise that every model will run well—or at all—on every configuration.

The system has integrated graphics, not a discrete GPU. PCWorld says a stronger supported GPU is advisable for larger local models or complex video editing, and notes that CUDA applications require a compatible Nvidia GPU. The MS-03’s expansion slot is constrained by both electrical bandwidth and card power, so verify that a target accelerator is physically and electrically compatible before planning a build around it.

An NPU’s peak TOPS figure alone is not a reliable guide to application speed. In PCWorld’s assessment, practical benefit depends on software support, and many applications still rely on the CPU or GPU. Choose this system for a defined workload and supported software path rather than assuming an “AI PC” label guarantees acceleration.

Storage and expansion are the MS-03’s standout features

For its size, the MS-03 offers substantial storage flexibility. PCWorld describes two PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slots and one PCIe 4.0 x1 M.2 slot, plus U.2 drive support through the included adapter. Its reviewed 1TB SSD measured sequential read and write speeds of 5,791 and 5,428 MB/s in CrystalDiskMark; PCWorld noted that the drive did not fully use PCIe 4.0 capability. Results will vary with the installed drive and workload.

The system also has an x16-format expansion slot, but it is electrically PCIe 4.0 x4 and rated for up to 75W. That can suit compatible low-profile add-in cards, but the slot’s lane width, power limit, and compact enclosure rule it out as a straightforward home for a high-performance gaming GPU. Check card dimensions, cooling needs, power requirements, and interface compatibility together.

Networking: fast ports, with SFP+ costs to consider

Wired connectivity is a major selling point: the reviewed specification includes two 10GbE SFP+ ports, one 10GbE RJ45 port, and one 2.5GbE RJ45 port. That mix can be useful for a NAS, a workstation connected to high-speed storage, or a small lab with multiple fast links.

Price, configuration, and what to verify before buying

Price depends on configuration and region. PCWorld reported that its tested Core Ultra 9 system with 32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD cost $1,520 at the time of its October 6, 2026 review. It also cited a €1,079 barebones price against a €1,349 list price. These are dated review-time figures, not a current universal price; the official store pages show regional and configuration selections that can differ. Check the live listing, shipping, included memory and storage, operating system, and return terms. A barebones price is not directly comparable to a complete system price.

MINISFORUM’s official listing describes support for up to 128GB of DDR5-7200, while PCWorld’s unit used a single 32GB DDR5-5600 module. That difference makes it especially important to confirm the memory installed in the precise bundle you are considering rather than assuming the tested configuration or maximum capacity applies to it.

PCWorld’s sample ran Windows 11 Pro 25H2, build 26200, with BIOS 0.07 dated May 13, 2026. The reviewer regarded that BIOS as early firmware and noted that later releases may affect fan control and power consumption. This describes the review sample, not the current firmware status of every unit. Check current BIOS and driver availability for the model you plan to buy.

Verdict

The MS-03 makes sense when compact dimensions, high CPU throughput, multiple NVMe/U.2 storage options, and fast wired networking matter more than top-tier graphics. Its single-channel review configuration also shows why the memory bundle deserves close attention. For graphics-heavy work, larger local models, or CUDA applications, plan around the limitations of the integrated GPU and the expansion slot—or choose a system designed for a higher-power discrete graphics card.
