Straw Bed recipe and crafting
The recipe uses three Hay Bales and produces four Straw Beds, according to Mojang’s Java snapshot and Bedrock Preview announcements. The announcements do not specify a crafting-grid arrangement in their prose, so this guide does not assume one.

What a Straw Bed does
Mojang’s Java Team describes it as a bed that lets players “sleep through the night without setting your spawnpoint.” Unlike an item intended for repeated use, a Straw Bed is consumed after sleeping. Mojang’s cited announcements also say it cannot be used in the Nether or the End; trying to use it there destroys it.

#1 Best Overall
If you cannot find the recipe, first check the exact edition and build installed. For older releases, CurseForge lists a Straw Bed Backport. It is a mod, not vanilla Minecraft: its listing describes different Nether and End behavior, so do not assume the official snapshot rules apply to it.

The Bedrock Preview 26.40.30 announcement says Straw Beds can also be found in Abandoned Camps. That availability is documented in the cited preview; it should not be assumed for other editions or builds without checking their details.
