Minecraft Dungeons II is the released sequel, but it changes how you explore more than what kind of game it is. The original sends players into discrete missions; the sequel places dungeons in a connected world, adds jumping, and expands equipment customization. Both are action-RPG dungeon crawlers with solo and co-op play. Mojang says newcomers can start with the sequel without playing the first game.
What’s different in Minecraft Dungeons II?
The biggest shift is the world structure. In the original Minecraft Dungeons, players choose discrete missions. In Minecraft Dungeons II, dungeons sit within a fixed, interconnected world instead. That gives exploration a more continuous framework while keeping the dungeon-crawling premise intact. Xbox Wire described this distinction in its June 10, 2026 gameplay deep dive: Xbox Wire’s Minecraft Dungeons II gameplay deep dive.

The sequel also adds jumping and broadens loadout customization. Its story follows disturbances and rifts after the events of the first game, with the Illager High Council leading a new threat. Players travel through the Overworld and the Sift, a new dimension introduced for the sequel. Mojang’s official game page and FAQ and launch announcement describe the setting and story.

- Drop the pickaxe, grab a sword, and charge into a thrilling new adventure in the Minecraft Dungeons II Deluxe Edition
Is Minecraft Dungeons II open world?
Xbox Wire describes it as a fixed, contiguous, interconnected world with dungeons, rather than a map of separate missions selected one at a time. That supports calling it connected-world exploration; it does not establish that the game is an unrestricted open world. The original’s discrete mission structure remains the clearest point of contrast.
How do movement and builds change?
Jumping is new in the sequel and gives players an additional way to move through and explore its connected spaces. The sequel also keeps the gear-based approach to heroes rather than switching to fixed classes. Xbox Wire’s demo account describes a melee weapon, a ranged weapon, three artifact slots, four armor slots, and three talisman slots; its account identifies the armor and talisman slots as new systems. Mojang likewise highlights new ways to customize loadouts and playstyles on the official game page.

Those changes suggest more room to shape a build through equipment, but the cited sources do not establish a complete list of gear, progression rules, or how each slot affects balance. Treat the slot layout as a snapshot of the demo described by Xbox Wire, rather than a promise about every stage of play.
Does Minecraft Dungeons II have couch co-op and cross-play?
Yes. Mojang lists couch co-op, online cross-play, and mixed co-op, and says the game can be played alone or with up to four players. The current details are on the official FAQ and in the launch post. The cited pages do not specify platform-by-platform limitations, so check the relevant store or support information if you need to confirm a particular setup.

Whether Deluxe is worthwhile depends on how much you value those cosmetics and want the listed DLC; compare its current price and terms with the base edition before buying. Mojang’s FAQ and Xbox Wire’s gameplay deep dive describe the inclusions.
