If Minecraft Dungeons II crashes, start with the published PC requirements, then update Windows, your graphics driver and the game. Continue through the fixes below in order; use the Launcher and Gaming Services steps for failures before the game opens, and treat the DirectX 11 launch option as an unconfirmed, reversible workaround—not an official fix.
Minecraft Dungeons II, also called Minecraft Dungeons 2, launched on September 29, 2026. Minecraft’s published troubleshooting guidance emphasizes updates, a restart, available storage and closing other programs before reinstalling. The steps below apply to the PC version; the exact repair controls differ between Steam and the Xbox app.
1. Check your PC against Minecraft’s requirements
Before changing settings, note your Windows version, installed RAM, graphics card and its VRAM, and DirectX support. Compare them with Minecraft’s 2026 published requirements:

These are Minecraft’s stated requirements, not a guarantee that every PC meeting them will be free of crashes. If the computer falls below the minimum, driver changes or launch options cannot make unsupported hardware meet it; a crash on a qualifying system can still have another cause.

2. Install Windows and graphics-driver updates
Minecraft’s graphics troubleshooting guidance places operating-system and driver updates near the start of the process. Check Windows Update, install available updates, and get the current graphics driver from the support channel for your GPU maker—NVIDIA, AMD or Intel. Restart Windows after installing updates so they are fully applied.
3. Update Minecraft Dungeons II
Open the storefront or launcher where you installed the game—Steam, the Xbox app, or Microsoft Store—and check for a pending update. Install it before testing again. Note the installed build before and after updating, so you can tell whether the game actually changed; Minecraft’s general crash guidance recommends using the latest game release.

4. Sign out of the launch apps, restart, and sign back in
If the game will not start or access to it seems inconsistent, sign out of Minecraft Launcher, Xbox app and Microsoft Store, close them, then restart Windows. Sign back in using the Microsoft account that owns the game or provides the Game Pass access you are using. Minecraft Help says a Microsoft account is required for login and license verification.
5. Check free storage and close other programs
Make sure the drive containing the game has free space, then close programs you do not need while troubleshooting. Browsers, recording software, overlays, RGB utilities and other memory-heavy applications are reasonable candidates to close temporarily, but there is no established evidence here that any particular one causes Dungeons II crashes. Test the game after closing them rather than permanently removing software.

6. Repair Gaming Services or Minecraft Launcher
Use this path if the Xbox app or Launcher fails before the game window appears, rather than if the game itself opens and then crashes. Minecraft Help documents these remedies for Windows Launcher problems:
- Run the Gaming Services Repair Tool.
- In Windows Settings, open Apps > Installed apps, select Minecraft Launcher, open Advanced options and choose Repair, if that option is available.
- If the problem remains, reinstall Minecraft Launcher.
- Reset the Microsoft Store cache, then try opening the Launcher again.
These are Launcher and Windows-service remedies; they are not a guarantee against a crash occurring inside the game.

7. Verify or repair the game files
A damaged or incomplete installation is one possible reason a game fails to launch. Use the control for the store where your copy is installed:
- Steam: Open the game’s Properties from your Steam Library and use Steam’s installed-files verification control.
- Xbox app: Open the game’s Manage > Files > Verify and Repair controls.
One community report says Xbox app Verify and Repair resolved a launch error involving damaged settings, but that anecdote does not establish a universal Minecraft Dungeons II fix. Back up local saves before reinstalling the game or deleting files.

8. Try the reversible DirectX 11 option, then reinstall if needed
Try Steam’s community-reported launch option
One Steam user reported that adding -dx11 to the game’s launch options helped. This is unconfirmed and is not an official Minecraft recommendation. In Steam, open the game’s Properties from your Library and enter -dx11 in General > Launch Options. Test the game; if behavior changes for the worse or new errors appear, remove the option and test again.
Reinstall only after the earlier steps
If the crashes continue, reinstall Minecraft Dungeons II from the store where you obtained it. Minecraft’s general guidance lists reinstalling as a later troubleshooting step. Preserve local saves before removing the installation.
If choosing between Steam and the Xbox app
There is no measured evidence establishing that either storefront is inherently more stable for this game. If the crash persists and you are deciding which installation to troubleshoot or use, compare the practical differences:

The game is also sold for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, but those versions do not change the PC troubleshooting steps here.
