Minecraft Dungeons 2 looks like a worthwhile sequel for players who enjoyed the first game’s approachable, loot-driven combat. Its clearest change is structural: instead of discrete missions, the sequel puts dungeons in a fixed, interconnected world. Early reviews were positive but described refinement rather than a reinvention of the action-RPG formula.
What is Minecraft Dungeons 2?
Minecraft Dungeons II and Minecraft Dungeons 2 are two names for the same game. Minecraft’s official overview describes it as the sequel to Minecraft Dungeons (Minecraft’s official overview).

The sequel retains the series’ dungeon-crawling, combat-and-gear focus, but changes how players move through its world. It is not presented as a mining or crafting game: in its September 28, 2026 review, GamesRadar put it this way: “There’s still no mining. Or crafting. But the Dungeon aspect? Well, that’s going great guns.” (GamesRadar’s review.)
What’s new compared with the first game?
An interconnected world instead of separate missions
Xbox Wire says the original game used discrete missions, while the sequel places dungeons across a fixed, interconnected world. Its announcement also describes a new story, an Overworld map, and new gear slots. That is the biggest shift for returning players: dungeon runs now sit within a connected setting rather than being the whole map-selection structure (Xbox Wire’s gameplay overview).

The Sift, a new dimension
The Sift is a new dimension introduced in Minecraft Dungeons II. In a September 26, 2026 Xbox Wire article, editor-in-chief Joe Skrebels called it “the first new dimension in Minecraft in over 14 years.” That article also said Mojang planned to bring the Sift to Minecraft in 2027; that was a future plan at the time of the announcement, not evidence that it has since been added (Xbox Wire’s Sift announcement).
More gear choices, familiar dungeon focus
The announced new gear slots add another layer to character setup, while the core appeal remains fighting through dungeons and improving a build with equipment. The available review coverage describes the game as a continuation of the original’s appeal, not a wholesale redesign. The announcements do not establish every item type or progression detail, so specific build advice would be premature.

Is Minecraft Dungeons 2 worth playing?
For fans of the first game who want more dungeon combat in a more connected world, the sequel’s announced changes make a reasonable case for playing it. Players looking for a fundamentally different action RPG should temper expectations: the early critical response emphasized refinement rather than reinvention.
Windows Central reported on September 28, 2026 that the review aggregates stood at Metacritic 76 and OpenCritic 85, and characterized the broad response as an improvement on the original’s formula rather than a genre reset. Those are a dated snapshot reported by Windows Central, not fixed scores; aggregates can change (Windows Central’s review round-up).

GamesRadar’s review praised the dungeon-focused action but noted that dense encounters can become overwhelming. That is a reviewer’s judgment, not a universal measure of difficulty; players’ experience will depend on their builds and play style (GamesRadar’s review).
How long is the campaign?
GamesRadar estimated that the main story takes around 10 hours. Treat that as one reviewer’s estimate, not a guaranteed completion time: optional play, difficulty choices, and time spent exploring or adjusting gear can change an individual run.

What are Sift Tides?
GamesRadar also discusses Sift Tides, time-limited modifiers that add variation to play. They are a reason to consider replaying content, but the review’s description alone does not establish how much extra time they add or how often every player will want to use them.
