The EU energy, water, time and noise figures above come from the Miele Bulgaria product information sheet for WTR870WPM. Its publication year is not stated. Regulatory figures describe specified programmes and test conditions; they should not be treated as guarantees for every load or household.
How its capacity affects everyday use
Washing and drying are not the same load size
The key practical constraint is the gap between wash capacity and drying capacity. The German/EU documentation gives an 8 kg wash load and 5 kg drying capacity, while the Australian sheet describes 8 kg washing and 4 kg for a combined wash-and-dry load. A full wash load may therefore need to be split before drying, depending on the local model and load.

Long combined cycles require planning
On the EU information sheet, a full-capacity wash-and-dry cycle is listed at 6 hours 29 minutes. That figure applies to the sheet’s stated conditions, not every programme or real-world load. It nevertheless illustrates why a single-unit machine is not automatically the quickest option for processing several loads in succession: the appliance cannot begin another wash while it is drying the current load.
What do TwinDos, SteamCare and the controls offer?
TwinDos automatic dosing
TwinDos is Miele’s automatic two-component detergent-dosing system. Miele lists it on the German WTR870WPM, alongside CapDosing. These are convenience features; the product listings do not establish a measured cleaning advantage over other dosing methods. Cartridge availability and compatibility should be checked for the buyer’s market.

SteamCare and wash programmes
SteamCare, PowerWash and QuickPower Wash appear in the Australian specification, while Miele’s German listing also identifies SteamCare and programme options. AddLoad is listed in manufacturer documentation. Because feature availability can vary by regional model, verify the precise local specification rather than assuming every listed function is present on every WTR870WPM.
Touch controls
The German model specification lists M Touch. The presence of a touchscreen is a control and interface feature, not evidence by itself of better washing or drying results.

What do the energy figures mean?
The EU sheet assigns the 8/5 kg version washing class A and combined wash-and-dry class D. It reports 0.455 kWh for the stated Eco 40–60 wash cycle and 2.620 kWh for the stated combined cycle. Those figures describe different operating modes, so comparing them as if they covered the same task would be misleading. Compare energy use with another appliance only when region, programme, load capacity and regulatory test conditions match.
The sheet also reports 47 litres for the stated Eco 40–60 wash programme. Household consumption will depend on programme choice, load and use; the listed value is not a universal per-load prediction.

Who should consider the WTR870WPM?
A reasonable fit
- Homes with limited room for two appliances.
- People who value running a wash-and-dry sequence without transferring laundry between machines.
- Households whose routine usually fits within the local model’s drying capacity.
- Buyers who want features such as TwinDos or SteamCare and have confirmed those features on the regional variant.
Look at other formats if throughput matters more
- Households that regularly need to dry large wash loads without splitting them.
- Homes that run multiple substantial loads each day and need to start a new wash while another load dries.
- Buyers for whom short turnaround time or maximum drying capacity is more important than a single-appliance footprint.
Miele’s own guidance notes that separate appliances may suit larger or busier households. That is a useful format comparison, not evidence that one specific alternative model is a head-to-head winner over the WTR870WPM.
Check the exact model before buying
- Match the full model number. Confirm that the listing and product sheet say WTR870WPM, not the similar WTW870WPM. The latter is a different model; its specifications should not be applied to this review.
- Confirm local capacities. Check whether the seller’s regional documentation specifies 8/5 kg or 8/4 kg, and whether the smaller figure refers to dry capacity or a combined-cycle load.
- Check installation dimensions. Use the installation document for the exact market and model, including any required clearances; the Australian specification lists 850 × 596 × 637 mm.
- Verify included features and consumables. Confirm TwinDos, SteamCare and other programme or control features in the local sheet, and check TwinDos cartridge compatibility where relevant.
- Assess cycle and energy figures on like terms. Compare the same programme, capacity, region and test regime, and distinguish wash-only data from combined wash-and-dry data.
Durability and price: what is established
Miele says WT1 washer-dryer models and core components were tested during development with 5,000 wash runs and 4,000 drying runs. The same German product page explicitly says this does not guarantee the durability of end products. These development-test counts are not a promise of product lifespan, warranty duration or reliability in a household.
A current street price is not established here, and a dated 2024 Australian price list should not be read as a current quote. Compare current local retailer listings for the exact regional model before making a purchase decision.
Verdict
The WTR870WPM’s strongest case is convenience: it combines washing and drying in one footprint and adds features such as TwinDos, SteamCare and touch controls. Its main limitation is the smaller drying capacity and the time required for a full combined cycle. It is most compelling when space and a no-transfer workflow outweigh high laundry throughput; buyers with frequent large loads should compare separate machines or other higher-throughput formats. Regional capacity differences make the local specification sheet essential.
