Astian has announced horizontal “Horizon Tabs” and three additional search-engine options for Midori on Android, but its announcement describes features in progress—not a confirmed Google Play release. The new options named are Ecosia, Qwant and Startpage; Astian says AstianGO remains its primary recommendation.
What Astian announced for Midori Android
In a post dated October 1, 2026, Astian described changes planned for an upcoming Midori update. The announcement names two main areas: a horizontal tab layout called “Horizon Tabs,” and expanded search options and address-bar suggestions. Astian’s wording presents the tabs as being implemented, not as a feature confirmed available to every Android user. Read Astian’s announcement.

Horizon Tabs
Horizon Tabs is Astian’s name for the announced horizontal tab presentation. The announcement does not provide a detailed activation walkthrough or establish that the layout has shipped. If you do not see a horizontal tab option in your installed version, the announcement alone does not indicate that anything is wrong with your settings.

The announcement does not support describing the services as Midori partners or implying an endorsement or affiliate arrangement.

The Google Play listing checked for this coverage showed a September 9, 2026 update date and listed other changes, including HTTPS by default, reader mode, stability and performance changes, tab search, and memory and battery improvements. It did not confirm Horizon Tabs or the three newly named search engines. Store listings can change after that check, so consult the current Midori Google Play listing for the latest release information.
What Midori’s Android listing and project information say
Google Play identifies the app as “Web Browser Midori,” published by Astian, Inc.; the listing showed 100K+ downloads when checked in 2026. Its description promotes privacy, ad blocking, open-source software and customization. Those are claims in the app listing, not independent test results. The Midori Android repository describes the browser as free software and lists features including private browsing, extensions, tabs, history, downloads, bookmarks and dark theme.

The Google Play Data safety panel is also developer-provided. At the time checked, it said “No data shared with third parties” and “No data collected,” while also displaying “Data isn’t encrypted” and “Data can’t be deleted.” These declarations may change and are not an independent security audit; they should not be treated as an absolute privacy guarantee.
How to decide whether the changes matter to you
Horizon Tabs may suit people who prefer a horizontal tab layout, while the existing presentation may remain preferable to others. The additional search choices matter if you want to select among AstianGO, Ecosia, Qwant or Startpage. Available sources do not provide comparative privacy audits, search-quality tests or performance measurements for these providers, so the choice rests on your own preferences rather than a substantiated ranking.
