They come from different Microsoft release pages—not one complete monthly changelog—and rollout or availability may vary by tenant, region, platform, and license.
What changed for everyday Teams users in September?
File uploads continue in the background
Microsoft’s September 2026 What’s New page says users can continue working while a shared file uploads. Uploads run in the background across chats, channels, and meetings. Progress indicators show their status, and the file appears in the conversation when it is ready. Microsoft describes a change in how users can work during an upload; it does not make a claim there about faster uploads.
What meeting and workspace changes were announced?
Breakout rooms for meetings with up to 1,000 attendees
Microsoft’s Teams admin release notes date breakout rooms for meetings with up to 1,000 attendees to September 9, 2026. This is a stated product capacity, not an independent performance finding; availability may depend on rollout and tenant configuration.
Desk booking on Teams desk hub devices
The same September 9 notes add bookable desk functionality on Teams desk hub devices, naming Yealink Linkhub as an example. Microsoft says each device requires a Teams Shared Space license. Check device and tenant eligibility before planning a deployment.

What should Teams administrators know about Call Queues?
Automatic recording and transcription
Microsoft’s August 26 admin release notes describe automatic recording and transcription for calls answered through Teams Call Queues. Recordings are stored in SharePoint and can be accessed from call history in the Queues app. Administrators can manage recording settings and agent access in the Teams admin center or with PowerShell.
Microsoft’s notes specify that the Queues app requires a Teams Premium license. They do not establish a broader licensing matrix for every feature in this update. Administrators should verify current tenant settings and applicable licensing before enabling the workflow.

What is new in Copilot for Teams?
Refreshed Copilot experience and shared context
Microsoft’s September 2026 Copilot roundup describes a refreshed Copilot experience in Teams and Outlook, including a full-screen Teams experience and a Copilot side pane.
In a September 25 announcement, Jared Spataro, Microsoft’s Chief Marketing Officer, AI at Work, said: “And now when you invoke @Copilot in Teams, your entire team gets the shared context and permissions of the channel, group chat or meeting.” The statement describes the context and permissions shared when Copilot is invoked; it is not a claim about measured user outcomes.

Teams Phone Agent
Microsoft also describes Teams Phone Agent as an AI-powered receptionist for organizations using Teams Phone. According to Microsoft, it can answer common questions, book or reschedule appointments, and route callers to an employee or department, with an AI-generated conversation summary. Microsoft reports support for over 60 languages; that figure is a vendor feature claim, not an independent language-performance evaluation. Confirm rollout and entitlements before relying on it.
Teams meetings as Copilot Notebook references
Microsoft’s Copilot release notes describe Meetings as References in Copilot Notebooks. Users can add Teams meeting transcripts, notes, chats, and shared content as notebook knowledge sources.

How to interpret the August and September update list
The user-facing What’s New page includes a September entry, while the August details here come from admin release notes and Copilot documentation. These sources do not form a complete August–September feature list, and an announcement or release-note entry does not guarantee that a feature is active for every tenant, region, platform, or license. For deployment decisions, check the relevant Microsoft admin and licensing information for your environment.
