Microsoft has reportedly added a community request to bring back Windows XP’s 3D Pinball to a list of ideas for consideration. That is not a promise that the game is in development or will ship with Windows 11.
What Microsoft has said about 3D Pinball
In a report published October 6, 2026, Windows Latest said Windows & Devices executive vice president Pavan Davuluri responded to a community request during an episode of the Inside Windows podcast. The request was “Bring back 3D pinball.” Davuluri reportedly said Microsoft would add it “into the matrix for things to think about.” Windows Latest

The remark indicates consideration, not a product commitment. The report does not say Microsoft has assigned a team to develop the game, announced a Windows 11 feature, or set a release date. The original podcast recording or transcript was not independently verified, so the quoted wording here is attributed to Windows Latest’s account.
Why 3D Pinball disappeared after Windows XP
Windows XP was the last client version of Windows to include 3D Pinball, according to Microsoft engineer Raymond Chen. In a Microsoft-hosted account published December 18, 2012, Chen explained that the game developed a collision-detection problem during the effort to port Windows XP to 64-bit: the ball could pass through objects. - Sequel to the best-selling Ultra Pinball game
- Fast action, realistic ball physics
- Confront ghosts and ghouls
The game had been written by an outside company, and Chen said much of its code was uncommented and poorly understood within Microsoft. With a large Windows porting workload underway, the team decided it was not worth spending days investigating the obscure bug. Chen summarized the decision: “We just made the executive decision right there to drop Pinball from the product.” He also noted that the game’s source was licensed from another company.

Being placed on a consideration list is an early, noncommittal step. The available report does not establish that Microsoft has resolved questions such as who would develop or maintain the game, how its licensed source would be handled, or whether a modern version would be bundled with Windows rather than offered another way. Those are open questions, not announced plans.

For now, the defensible answer to “Will 3D Pinball come back to Windows 11?” is that Microsoft is reportedly considering the idea. There is no confirmed Windows 11 release or timing.
