What order should you play the Metro games in?
- Metro 2033 Redux — the beginning of the story, set in 2033.
- Metro: Last Light Redux — the continuation, set in 2034.
- Metro Exodus — the later journey, following Artyom, Anna, and the Aurora crew as they leave Moscow.
The official Metro story guide labels Metro 2033 “The beginning” and Last Light “The story continues.” The publisher’s Exodus story material places the Aurora crew’s journey beyond Moscow later in the saga. This is the recommended narrative sequence; the available official material does not establish that Exodus requires a completed save or prior game completion.

What does Metro Redux include?
Metro Redux bundles definitive Redux editions of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. Buy or launch the two titles in that order rather than treating “Redux” as a separate installment. The collection is the direct option if you do not own either earlier game.
What is different about Last Light Redux?
PLAION describes Last Light Redux as a definitive version rebuilt in a later iteration of the 4A Engine. Its product information says it includes all previously released DLC, described as adding 10 hours of bonus single-player content, as well as features such as melee animations, the ability to check the watch and ammunition supplies, and full-body player animations. It also lists Survival and Spartan play styles and Ranger Mode. The 10-hour figure is the publisher’s content estimate, not an independent playtime measurement. Steam Support lists both Redux games with a release date of August 25, 2014, and credits 4A Games as developer and Deep Silver as publisher. Those dates refer to the Steam listings, not necessarily every console edition. Steam Support
Should you start with Exodus instead?
You can choose Exodus if you already own it or would rather begin with the later journey, but you will be starting after the first two installments. The publisher’s three-game bundle announcement presents Metro 2033 Redux, Last Light Redux, and Exodus as a way for newcomers to enter the franchise from the beginning. For the clearest story context, start with the Redux games; if you mainly want to play Exodus, it is the third entry rather than the start of the chronology.

Check the edition and platform before buying
Make sure a listing is for the platform and edition you can use. Requirements are not identical across platforms and editions: PLAION’s PC requirements page says Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition requires an Nvidia RTX or AMD RX GPU. That qualification applies to the PC Enhanced Edition; do not assume it describes console versions or every edition of Exodus. Check PLAION’s PC system requirements and the exact store listing before buying.
If you already own Metro 2033 and Last Light, you do not need the Redux collection just to follow the story. If you own neither, look for a compatible listing of the two-game collection, and verify the platform and included editions. Current availability and compatibility depend on the listing.
