Why Metro 2033 Redux comes first
Metro 2033 Redux follows Artyom in 2033 as he travels through Moscow’s Metro and the wasteland above it. Last Light Redux follows in 2034, amid conflict between the Metro’s station-cities. Playing in that order gives the story its intended chronological context. The Steam listings treat them as distinct products, and the Last Light listing calls Metro 2033 its “cult prequel.” Metro 2033 Redux on Steam; Metro: Last Light Redux on Steam.

How the two Redux games differ

These are publisher descriptions of the games, not independently measured comparisons. Both editions offer a Survival option, so choosing the sequel does not mean giving up that play style.

- Want the story in order? Start with Metro 2033 Redux, then continue to Last Light Redux.
- Prefer the more survival-horror framing? The official copy describes Metro 2033 in those terms. Last Light also has a Survival mode.
- Prefer a more action-oriented, stealth-combat framing? The publisher describes Last Light that way, though its Survival mode is intended to feel slower.
- Already own one? They are separate games, not two names for the same game. Check your platform’s current store listing for the edition you own or plan to buy; Steam lists the titles separately and also lists a bundle containing both Redux games.
Platform availability and the announced 2026 update
As of 4 October 2026, PLAION’s support FAQ announces a free Redux next-gen update for existing owners. Its announced schedule is PC on 22 October 2026 and Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro on 29 October; Windows Store is scheduled alongside consoles, while Japan is listed for November. These are future dates as of 4 October, not confirmed completed launches. The FAQ says Switch is not included in the announced update. Check the PLAION Redux next-gen FAQ and your platform’s current store information for the latest availability.
