Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 brings Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and the HD Collection version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker to current platforms, with Metal Gear: Ghost Babel and archival extras. It is an appealing package for players who want both main games, but the official materials establish what is included—not how well the ports perform. Treat claims about resolution, frame rate, loading, stability, or controls as unverified unless they come from testing on the specific platform you plan to use.
What’s included in Vol. 2?
Konami’s European product listing names two main games: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in its HD Collection version. The collection also includes Metal Gear: Ghost Babel as bonus content. Konami’s product page identifies the bundle’s additional archival material:

- The MGS4 Database.
- A Screenplay Book and Master Book for each main game.
- Metal Gear Solid: Digital Soundtrack Vol.2.
The books are available from each game’s start menu, and the soundtrack has a dedicated in-game player, according to Konami. The Database and books are useful reference material for fans who want to revisit the story and its details; they are supplements rather than additional playable campaigns. Konami notes that the MGS4 Database was developed using Unreal Engine, which describes that database—not the game engine used by MGS4.

How significant is MGS4’s arrival on modern platforms?
Guns of the Patriots first released for PlayStation 3 in 2008. Vol. 2 is positioned as its arrival on modern platforms, a meaningful convenience for players who no longer have access to the original console. Konami calls the main games enhanced for modern platforms, but its available product information does not specify resolution, frame rate, graphics changes, input options, loading times, or platform-by-platform performance. “Enhanced” should not be read as a promise of a particular technical result.
#1 Best Overall
- GAME LIST: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (HD Collection version), Metal Gear: Ghost Babel. Versions for other regions of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (HD Collection version) can be downloaded separately from the store. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker supports online play for up to 6 players.
- DIGITAL BOOKS: Metal Gear Solid 4: Screenplay Book, Metal Gear Solid 4: Master Book, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Screenplay Book, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Master Book. All are accessible via the in-game Start Menu.
- METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol.1 SAVE-DATA BONUS*: If a user has saved data for any title included in METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol.1, you can receive in-game items usable in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (HD Collection version) respectively. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Bonus: Gold Camouflage. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (HD Collection version) Bonus: GOLD Uniform.
That distinction matters to the review verdict: the prospect of playing MGS4 on a current system is attractive, but whether this version looks and responds well can only be judged through hands-on testing on that platform. The official manual lists versions for PS5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam; it does not supply independent performance benchmarks.
What does Peace Walker offer, especially online?
Peace Walker has a co-op and competitive identity that makes its inclusion more than a second single-player campaign. Konami lists online play for up to six players, while PlayStation Blog clarifies the mode sizes: CO-OPS supports 2–4 players, and VERSUS OPS supports up to 6. Online play is limited to Peace Walker; the collection does not support crossplay, so players on different platforms cannot join the same session. See PlayStation Blog’s feature overview and Konami’s launch notice.

- BONUS CLASSIC CONTENT — Receive Metal Gear Ghost Babel, the beloved handheld Metal Gear title originally released in 2000, included as a collection bonus.
Those details make platform choice more important for anyone buying primarily to play with friends: agree on a platform before purchasing. The official announcements describe supported player counts, but do not establish matchmaking quality or whether the online modes are reliably populated. Those are practical questions a hands-on review would need to test.
What does Ghost Babel add?
Ghost Babel is a distinct extra rather than another mainline entry in the two-game package. Konami describes it as the series’ first handheld title and dates it to 2000. Its inclusion gives the collection a piece of the franchise’s portable history, but it does not make Vol. 2 a complete series collection: the listed main games are MGS4 and Peace Walker, alongside this bonus title and the archival extras.

Which platforms and editions are listed?
Konami’s European product listing gives a release date of 27 August 2026 and names PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC/Steam. Konami’s launch notice confirms the worldwide launch on that date. Availability and edition details can vary by region, so check the listing for your local platform before buying.
Konami announced physical and digital preorder versions in February 2026, but current regional stock and packaging specifics are not established here. Nintendo’s US listing describes the soundtrack as part of the collection edition; check the local store page if bonus-content differences matter to your purchase.

Does the bundle make sense at its US Nintendo price?
Nintendo’s US storefront listed the following regular prices when accessed in 2026. They are regional figures and may change; they are not a guarantee of the current price elsewhere.
| Nintendo US digital listing | Regular price listed |
|---|---|
| Master Collection Vol. 2, Switch or Switch 2 | $49.99 |
| Metal Gear Solid 4 standalone | $29.99 |
| Peace Walker standalone | $19.99 |
At those listed prices, the two standalone editions total $49.98—one cent less than the collection. The bundle’s value therefore rests on whether you want Ghost Babel and the archival extras, and on whether the collection or individual editions are currently priced differently in your store. If you want both main games, the bundle is the straightforward package; if you only want one, Nintendo lists a standalone option. These are US Nintendo prices, not universal or fixed prices. Is there a bonus for owning Vol. 1?
Nintendo documents save-data bonuses for players with a Master Collection Vol. 1 save on the same account and console: Gold Camouflage for MGS4 and Uniform: GOLD for Peace Walker. The requirement is specific to that save being available on the same account and console; consult the relevant local store information if you need to confirm how it applies to your setup.
Who should buy it?
Vol. 2 is easiest to recommend to series fans who want both MGS4 and Peace Walker on a current platform, particularly those who value Ghost Babel and the included reference material. Players drawn mainly by MGS4’s return should first check whether their chosen platform and edition suit them, then look for platform-specific testing before treating the port as technically successful. Players buying for Peace Walker co-op should coordinate platform choice with friends because crossplay is not supported.
The package’s contents and supported platforms are clear from Konami’s listings; its image quality, responsiveness, stability, loading, and online reliability are not established by those official materials. Without platform-specific hands-on results, the fair verdict is that Vol. 2 has a strong and unusually focused lineup, while the quality of its modern ports remains a separate question.
