Meta announced more than 75 hand-gesture games for launch and hundreds more streamable through Xbox Cloud Gaming. But those are forward-looking company claims, not a verified launch catalog, and the headset is not expected to go on sale until spring 2027.
Why did the reveal seem to overlook games?
In its September 29, 2026 feature, PCWorld’s Alaina Yee argued that Meta gave games little prominence in the headset reveal: Beat Saber appeared briefly in the described headset segment, while the trailer did not mention games. That is a critique of Meta’s messaging, not proof that the product has no games. Meta’s September 23 announcement made a substantial gaming claim of its own.

The distinction matters: a company can announce a large library while still choosing to focus its launch presentation on other uses. Meta introduced the device as a cinema, workspace, and gaming console in a glasses form factor.

Meta says more than 75 games will be playable at launch using hand gestures alone. It also says users can stream hundreds more through Xbox Cloud Gaming. These figures describe the company’s announced plans; they are not an independently verified launch-day catalog, and the announcement does not establish that cloud gaming or a subscription is included with the headset.

Meta says the glasses use the same operating system, store, payment platform, and SDKs as Quest. UploadVR reported that every Quest game would be playable on the new device, a broader compatibility claim than Meta’s shared-platform statement. Until Meta publishes current compatibility details, treat that report as reporting rather than a confirmed guarantee that every Quest title will work.
Named game announcements
UploadVR’s September 23 roundup identified announced games and updates including Beat Saber: Flux, Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies VR, Tetris Effect: Mixed Realities, Two Point Hospital VR, Dragon Grove, Story of Seasons: Your Wonderful Life, Cardmada, and Dice Throne Digital. The roundup describes different platforms and dates; check each game’s current store listing rather than assuming every title will launch on Meta VR Glasses or be available on the headset’s release date.

How will you play: hands, eyes, or controllers?
Meta identifies eyes and hand gestures as the primary inputs, and says basic interaction does not require controllers. In its September 24 developer guidance, the company said it expects most customers not to use Touch Plus controllers. The guidance presents casual and social experiences as a natural fit for eyes and hands, while virtual locomotion and gun-based play may suit controllers better.
Touch Plus controllers are supported but sold separately, according to Meta’s developer guidance. Do not assume they come in the headset package; check the final retail listing and compatibility details before buying accessories.

What are the price and release plans?
Meta announced a US price of $1,299.99 and a spring 2027 sale window on September 23, 2026. Both are announced plans that could change before retail launch. The headset is designed around a separate compute, battery, and storage puck; Meta says the glasses weigh about 100 grams and use micro-OLED displays. Those are company specifications, not independent measurements.
The timing is important if you want a headset for games now: the announced library and compatibility plans concern a device that is not scheduled to reach sale until spring 2027. The announcement does not establish current retail availability.

What should prospective players make of the announcement?
- If you want controller-free play: Meta’s promise of more than 75 gesture-playable launch games is relevant, but the actual catalog and how well individual games suit gesture input remain to be confirmed.
- If you prefer controller-oriented games: Meta says Touch Plus controllers are supported, but they are separate purchases; confirm support for the specific games you care about.
- If you are counting on Quest games: Meta confirms shared Quest platform components, while the claim that every Quest game will work comes from UploadVR’s reporting. Wait for title-level compatibility information if a particular game is essential.
- If you are comparing it with a headset available today: weigh the announced $1,299.99 US price, spring 2027 timing, and puck-based design against your need to play now. The launch announcement is not a current availability or independent performance comparison.
