Yes. In Valve’s September 2026 Steam Hardware & Software Survey, Meta Quest 3 leads the named VR headset entries at 26.90%, ahead of Oculus Quest 2 at 25.80%. These are shares of surveyed Steam VR headset responses—not global headset ownership, sales, or a measure of every Steam user. Steam Frame does not appear as a named entry in that month’s table, but its absence does not establish whether it has launched.
What the September 2026 Steam survey shows
Valve’s September 2026 VR Headsets table puts Quest 3 1.10 percentage points ahead of Quest 2. The same table lists Quest 3S and Valve Index HMD behind them.

The changes are percentage points, not percentage growth rates. Quest 3’s displayed share rose by 0.89 points from the previous month, while Quest 2’s fell by 1.17 points.

Valve describes the survey as a monthly collection of data about the hardware and software its customers use, and says participation is “optional, and anonymous.” The headset percentages therefore describe entries in the surveyed Steam user data. They are not a census of all VR owners, a sales ranking, or a direct estimate of how many people own each model worldwide.

Valve does not publish a response count or confidence interval alongside the figures in the cited table. The table establishes that Quest 3 is the largest named entry for September; it does not show how precisely the results represent all Steam users with VR headsets.
Why Steam Frame is not in the September list
There is no named Steam Frame row in Valve’s September 2026 VR Headsets table. Because the survey is optional and anonymous and does not provide response-level details, the table does not explain why the headset is absent. That omission alone cannot confirm whether Steam Frame had shipped or was being used by anyone.

What Valve has said about Steam Frame
Valve’s Steamworks documentation describes Steam Frame as a standalone VR headset designed primarily for low-latency streaming of a player’s Steam library from a PC, while also supporting standalone VR and non-VR experiences. The documentation says it runs SteamOS and supports SteamVR and OpenXR.

In a June 4, 2026 Steamworks announcement, Valve said the headset was designed primarily for high-quality PC game streaming, while also being able to run games on the headset itself. The post introduced the Steam Frame Standalone Verified program and said the new hardware would ship “this summer.” That was the shipping expectation stated in June, not confirmation that retail shipments took place.

Valve had introduced Steam Frame among hardware “coming in 2026” in its November 12, 2025 hardware announcement. The official sources cited here do not establish its actual retail launch date, final consumer price, or availability as of October 2, 2026. The September survey cannot fill in those details.

Quest 3’s lead is a measure of its presence in one month’s Steam survey, not a verdict on headset quality or a purchase recommendation. Nor does the survey by itself provide a like-for-like product comparison with Steam Frame: Valve’s available material describes Steam Frame’s streaming-first and standalone capabilities, but the cited sources do not establish its retail price or availability.
