Yes—according to files extracted from Meta’s Muse, the assistant is designed to build pages about people in a user’s life, including people who have never signed up for Muse. That does not establish that every user has a complete file on every acquaintance, or that every detail is accurate. The finding comes from WIRED’s October 3, 2026 report on instructions obtained by independent researcher Karan Joshi.
What the extracted Muse instructions describe
WIRED reported that Muse’s instructions describe an hourly process that can create “a page for every person in the user’s life.” The categories named include family, partners, friends, colleagues, collaborators, and people the user follows. The person does not need to use Muse themselves.

The pages may begin sparse and accumulate information over time. The instructions reportedly describe sections such as Facts, History, The relationship, In common, Open threads, and Strengthening. Examples include where someone lives or works, recurring topics, birthdays or anniversaries, shared experiences, and possible follow-ups to maintain or improve a relationship. These are examples of what the instructions permit—not confirmation that every page contains them or that the information is correct.

Where Meta says the information comes from
Meta spokesperson Daniel Roberts told WIRED that an agent needs context about both its user and people they interact with to be useful. He said Muse gathers that context “based on public information and from what you’ve chosen to share.” He offered the examples of connecting an invoice sender to a plumber the user previously hired, or remembering flowers a spouse said they liked. That is Meta’s explanation of the intended sources, not independent verification of every data source used in each profile.
According to Meta’s account, context can therefore involve information available publicly as well as details the Muse user has shared or connected. The report does not establish precisely what Muse collects about any particular non-user, how often a given page is updated, or how accurate a specific page is.

What a Muse user can control—and what a non-user cannot
Meta says each Muse user has a dedicated virtual machine (VM) containing their files and generated data. The user can inspect, edit, and download those files, including Muse’s memory; disconnect services; and ask Muse to forget particular information. Meta’s September 8 launch announcement also says users can choose connected apps and access levels, review an audit trail, and are asked before sensitive actions such as sending email or making purchases. Those controls are for the Muse user and the material in that user’s environment. The sources reviewed do not identify a direct way for someone who has never used Muse to inspect or remove information about themselves from another person’s Muse. That is a meaningful distinction: a person may be described in another user’s files without having their own Muse account or an account-level control over those files.

Isolation, Meta access, ads, and model training are separate questions
Meta says a user’s VM is isolated from other users and agents. It also says that isolation does not prevent Meta from accessing data when necessary to support, secure, or operate Muse. So “isolated” should not be read as “Meta can never access it.” Meta AI Research: How We Built Safety Into Muse
Meta says conversations and VM data are not shared with its ad systems. Its technical explanation separately notes that browsing or activity in Meta services may indirectly influence ads. On training, Meta says Muse interaction data can be opted out of model training in settings; the technical description says sanitized conversation and action trajectories are used for training by default. These are distinct data-handling claims, not a blanket promise that no Muse-related information can affect advertising or training.

Meta AI Research also cautions: “Muse isn’t immune to attack. Prompt injection remains an open problem in the industry — and Muse will sometimes make mistakes.” This is relevant to an agent that can work with personal context, but it does not establish that any particular person-page information has been exposed or misused.

- It shows what the reported instructions describe: Muse appears designed to build and update pages about people around a user, including non-users.
- It does not show universal coverage: there is no established count of non-users with pages, nor evidence that every Muse user has a populated profile for everyone they know.
- It does not verify every detail: examples in instructions are not proof of completeness or accuracy in actual files.
- It leaves a control gap in the public record: Meta describes controls for Muse users, while the sources reviewed do not document a removal or inspection control for a non-user mentioned in someone else’s files.
For someone using Muse, Meta’s described controls point to reviewing the stored files and connected services, then editing or asking the assistant to forget material they do not want retained. For someone who has never used Muse, the available reporting does not establish a direct mechanism to see or delete information another user’s assistant may hold about them.
