The Meross MS605 combines 24 GHz radar, infrared motion sensing and an ambient-light sensor in a battery-powered Matter-over-Thread device. Meross advertises presence detection up to 4 m, motion detection up to 6 m and three configurable detection zones. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independently verified results: available evidence does not establish how reliably it detects a person sitting still, avoids false triggers or responds in real rooms. The key buying question is whether you already have compatible Thread infrastructure and are comfortable weighing the published feature set against unverified performance.
What the MS605 is—and what this review can establish
The MS605 is Meross’s battery-powered Thread model, using Matter over Thread for smart-home connectivity. Meross lists a 24 GHz ISM radar, infrared motion detection and ambient-light sensing, with three independently configurable detection zones on its product page. The combination is intended to distinguish presence from motion while also providing light-level information for automations.

- [Personalize Your Smart Home] with advanced app automation, custom sensitivity, and multi-sensor zoning. Divide the detection range into three customizable zones in the Meross App with this Matter smart home presence sensor. Each zone can independently set presence/absence conditions and appears as separate sensors on third-party platforms for advanced automation. Examples: Bathroom: 6m → night light on; 4m → bathroom light on.
The distinction matters: a motion range describes movement, while presence detection is intended to cover a person who is not moving much. The published figures alone do not show whether the MS605 reliably detects someone sitting still at a desk or on a sofa. Room layout, placement and the behavior of the sensing zones should be assessed in the intended space rather than inferred from the maximum distances.
Does the MS605 need a hub?
For third-party Matter use, Meross says the MS605 needs a compatible Matter-and-Thread hub or speaker that serves as a Thread Border Router. It does not require a Meross hub for that third-party connection. Initial setup uses Bluetooth through the Meross app; the product listing specifies Bluetooth 4.3 for the sensor and a smartphone with iOS 16.1 or later, or Android 8.1 or later with Bluetooth 4.2 or newer.

Meross says advanced Meross-app functions, including automations and remote control, require a Meross hub. Its listing and FAQ differ on hub timing, so availability should be checked directly rather than inferred from older estimates. For platform and hub details, consult the MS605 platform FAQ and the Meross Thread sensor overview.
Smart-home compatibility and light-sensor caveat
Meross lists Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant support over Matter/Thread. The exact features exposed in each ecosystem may differ. Meross specifically notes that Alexa does not currently support use of the MS605’s light-sensor reading for the described automation, so buyers should not assume every sensor value is available in every platform.
