MERN and TypeScript Code Reference: Queues, PDFs, SQL, Tests, and Tooling

Use Part 2’s MERN and TypeScript reference safely: check versions, queue backend, browser sandboxing, SQL dialect, test setup, and command context before copying examples.

This reference maps the Part 2 topics—BullMQ, Puppeteer PDFs, MySQL, testing, React with Vite and TypeScript, and Git/Docker/curl—to the decisions that matter when adapting code to a real MERN project. Treat any snippet or configuration from a cheat sheet as a starting point: the original author flags some details for verification, and the package versions are in Part 1. Confirm the installed versions, runtime, and database dialect before copying examples into production.

Use the examples with your project’s versions

A cheat sheet is most useful when it shortens a known task, not when it obscures a version or environment assumption. The Part 2 material covers several independent tools; it is not evidence that every listed package and configuration has been tested together. The author specifically marks some details “(verify),” says versions appear in Part 1, and notes that Puppeteer and MySQL are not in the author’s repositories.

  • Check your lockfile for the versions actually installed, then compare API calls and configuration with the current documentation for those versions.
  • Confirm the Node.js runtime, operating system, container image, and deployment permissions where they affect execution.
  • Use MySQL 8 for the SQL examples as labeled; do not assume their syntax or behavior transfers unchanged to another database.
  • Run the examples in a development or test environment before using them for production data or jobs.

BullMQ: separate job submission from job execution

BullMQ is a Node.js job queue. The core pattern is a producer that places a named job and its data on a queue, followed by one or more workers that process jobs. BullMQ’s Quick Start example requires a running Redis service. This separation lets an application defer work and distribute execution across workers rather than doing every task inside the request that initiated it.

Queues can help smooth workload peaks, support retries, and distribute work. They do not, by themselves, guarantee that a business action happens exactly once. BullMQ describes delivery as at-least-once in the worst case, so make handlers safe to run again when duplicate processing could cause harm. For example, design a payment-related or record-creation job around a stable operation identifier and check whether its effect has already been applied before repeating it.

Choose a backend based on your infrastructure

Backend What the documentation establishes Decision to make
Redis BullMQ’s Quick Start uses Redis and requires a Redis service for that example. Use this path when Redis is already part of your infrastructure or its operational requirements suit the application.
PostgreSQL Current BullMQ documentation describes an optional PostgreSQL backend. It requires PostgreSQL 13 or newer, recommends 14 or newer, and uses the pg package and a separate backend factory. Consider it if PostgreSQL fits your existing operations; account for its schema and version behavior rather than assuming it is a drop-in Redis configuration.

The PostgreSQL queue backend does not change the dialect of the article’s separate MySQL 8 query examples. BullMQ reported in 2026 that its shared suite of more than 800 tests passed unchanged against the PostgreSQL backend. That is a vendor-reported test-suite result, not an independent performance benchmark or a guarantee about an application’s workload.

Puppeteer: generate PDFs with deployment in mind

A PDF workflow has two parts: the application code that launches a browser and requests PDF output, and the environment that supplies a compatible browser and its dependencies. Check the launch options and PDF settings in the snippet against the Puppeteer version you install; the author flags some option details for verification.

Container security needs particular care. Puppeteer’s official Docker guidance describes an image containing Chrome for Testing and its required dependencies, configured to run Chrome in sandbox mode; that image requires the SYS_ADMIN capability. This is guidance for that documented image, not proof that the same capability or launch flags suit every deployment. Compare a sandboxed image with a separately built runtime in light of your platform’s privilege controls, image maintenance, and browser dependencies. Do not assume that disabling the browser sandbox is universally required in Docker.

SQL examples: keep the MySQL 8 label attached

The query examples in this reference are labeled for MySQL 8 and cover joins, grouping, and subqueries. Keep that dialect assumption visible when reusing them. SQL syntax and behavior can differ between engines, so validate a query against the database your application actually uses rather than treating “SQL” as one interchangeable dialect.

  • Check the target engine and version before running a query against important data.
  • Test joins and grouping against representative records, especially where null values or duplicate matches affect the result.
  • Review subqueries in the context of the target engine’s semantics and the application’s expected result shape.
  • Do not confuse BullMQ’s optional PostgreSQL queue storage with the database dialect used by these MySQL examples.

Testing: verify the setup, not just the assertion

The article includes Vitest and testing setup, but the available material does not establish that every configuration has been independently checked against current package versions. Treat test configuration as project-specific: confirm the installed test runner and its current setup conventions, then run the project’s test command and inspect failures before relying on the results.

  • Make sure the test environment matches the code being exercised, including browser or database dependencies where relevant.
  • Use tests to check observable outcomes and failure cases, not only that a function was called.
  • For queued jobs, consider repeated processing and retry behavior when duplicate effects would matter.

React with Vite and TypeScript

The covered frontend combination is React, Vite, and TypeScript. Because the specific configuration details are not established here as independently validated, check the project’s installed Vite, React, and TypeScript versions before adopting a setup snippet. Keep the example aligned with the application’s existing scripts, module conventions, and type-checking workflow instead of assuming it fits every MERN repository.

Git, Docker, and curl: check the environment behind each command

The cheat sheet also covers Git workflows, Dockerfiles and Compose, and curl requests involving cookies or bearer tokens. These commands are sensitive to repository state, shell syntax, service names, ports, and authentication details. Review each command in context before running it, especially if it changes files, starts services, or sends credentials.

Git

Inspect the working tree and the intended changes before committing or applying a workflow command. Confirm the repository and current branch so a command does not affect the wrong project or overwrite work you need.

Docker and Compose

Check image versions, service configuration, ports, environment variables, and required permissions against the deployment target. For browser-based PDF generation, account for the sandbox and capability requirements of the Puppeteer image you choose; do not transfer those requirements blindly to a different image or runtime.

curl authentication

When a request uses a cookie or bearer token, verify that the token is intended for that endpoint and avoid exposing credentials in shared logs, shell history, or copied command output. Confirm the target URL and HTTP method before sending a request that can change server-side data.

A practical copy-and-adapt checklist

  1. Identify the exact topic and its assumptions: queue backend, browser runtime, SQL dialect, test runner, frontend toolchain, or command environment.
  2. Compare the snippet with the package versions and lockfile in the project.
  3. Check operating-system, container, database, and service prerequisites that the code depends on.
  4. Run it against safe test data or a non-production environment and inspect both successful and failure paths.
  5. For jobs with business effects, make repeated processing safe; for SQL, verify behavior on the actual engine; for browser containers, review the sandbox and privilege model.
