Short answer: Mega Sableye is the toughest option in this comparison, but it is not a serious raid damage dealer as of October 2026. Its September 2026 stat line—151 Attack, 216 Defense, 137 HP and 2,196 maximum CP—favors staying power over damage. For Ghost raids, Mega Gengar is the leading choice in the cited comparison, with Mega Banette as a less fragile-typing alternative. For Dark raids, Mega Houndoom offers the strongest combination of listed damage and total damage output, while Mega Absol can hit hard but faints more easily.
Your best Mega depends on the boss, its moves, your team’s existing attackers and whether you value raid damage, survival, same-type catch bonuses or Mega progression. Mega Sableye’s announced Super Max and Night Shade+ update is scheduled for November 1–5, 2026, so that future change should not be treated as a current raid ranking.

At-a-glance comparison
The figures below come from Pokémon GO Hub comparison and tier-list articles published or updated in September 2026. DPS means damage per second in the cited simulator-style comparison; TDO means total damage output before the Pokémon faints. Neither figure is a universal result for every raid: boss defense, moves, weather, friendship bonuses, dodging and party composition can change the outcome.
| Mega | Typing | Attack | Defense | HP | Maximum CP | Reported raid line | Practical role |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Sableye | Dark/Ghost | 151 | 216 | 137 | 2,196 | Damage too low for serious raiding; no comparable DPS/TDO line stated | Defensive collector, dual-type Mega bonus and progression project |
| Mega Gengar | Ghost/Poison | 349 | 199 | 155 | 4,902 | Lick/Shadow Ball: 22.39 DPS, 469.0 TDO | Top Ghost damage option, but fragile and weak to Psychic attacks |
| Mega Banette | Ghost | 312 | 160 | 162 | 4,063 | Shadow Claw/Shadow Ball: 19.45 DPS, 346.5 TDO | Viable Ghost attacker without Gengar’s Poison typing |
| Mega Houndoom | Dark/Fire | Not stated in the cited table | Not stated in the cited table | Not stated in the cited table | Not stated in the cited table | Snarl/Dark Pulse+: 23.04 DPS, 544.2 TDO | Leading listed Dark damage-and-survival package |
| Mega Absol | Dark | Not stated in the cited table | Not stated in the cited table | Not stated in the cited table | Not stated in the cited table | High-DPS Dark option; exact current DPS value not stated here | Technical glass cannon using Snarl and Brutal Swing |
That table answers the central choice: do not power up Mega Sableye expecting it to replace Mega Gengar, Mega Banette, Mega Houndoom or Mega Absol as a raid attacker. Sableye’s value is elsewhere.

What Mega Sableye is good at
Its stat profile favors survival, not pressure
Mega Sableye’s 216 Defense is the highest defensive figure among the five Pokémon compared in the September 2026 table. Its 151 Attack is dramatically lower than Mega Gengar’s 349, Mega Banette’s 312 and the attack-oriented design of the Dark alternatives. Its 137 HP and 2,196 maximum CP also indicate a much smaller combat-stat budget than the high-CP Ghost Megas.
Defense can reduce incoming damage, but it does not compensate for a low attack stat when the assignment is to defeat a raid boss quickly. Raid parties receive more value from a Mega that deals substantial damage while its temporary team boost is active. Pokémon GO Hub therefore places Mega Sableye in C-tier and says its damage output is too low to recommend for serious raiding.
Dark/Ghost typing creates useful coverage, with matchup limits
Sableye can contribute to raids against targets vulnerable to Dark or Ghost attacks, and its two types can make it a convenient catch-bonus Mega when the encounter pool includes either type. The same dual typing also means the boss’s charged moves matter. A super-effective hit, a resisted hit or a neutral hit can change how long Sableye remains on the field, so typing should be checked against the specific raid rather than judged in isolation.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Its low maximum CP is not a reason to discard an individual with good IVs if your goal is collection, Mega Level growth or catch bonuses. It is, however, a warning against spending scarce Stardust and Candy XL on Sableye solely to build a top raid team.
Ghost raids: Mega Gengar or Mega Banette?
Mega Gengar: the damage-first Ghost Mega
The cited Ghost comparison gives Mega Gengar using Lick and Shadow Ball 22.39 DPS and 469.0 TDO. In the same September 2026 tier list, it has 349 Attack, 199 Defense, 155 HP and 4,902 maximum CP. Those figures explain why it leads Sableye and Banette for conventional Ghost raid damage.
Mega Gengar’s Poison subtyping is its main defensive complication. The cited analysis specifically notes a Psychic weakness, and a raid boss carrying strong Psychic moves can cut Gengar’s time on the field. A shorter lifespan can reduce the period during which your party receives the Mega damage boost and can force additional relobbies. Against a boss whose moves do not exploit that weakness, its damage advantage is easier to realize.

Mega Banette: less damage, simpler typing
Mega Banette’s listed Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball set produces 19.45 DPS and 346.5 TDO in the same comparison. Its 312 Attack is lower than Gengar’s, while its 160 Defense and 162 HP give it a different durability profile. Banette is a pure Ghost type, so it avoids the Psychic weakness created by Gengar’s Poison subtyping.
That does not make Banette universally better. The cited analysis describes it as a viable Ghost option that is outclassed by Mega Gengar. It becomes more attractive when the boss’s move set makes Gengar’s Poison weakness costly, when you lack a powered-up Gengar, or when you prefer a pure Ghost Mega for a particular matchup.
Why Mega Sableye is not the third damage choice
Sableye’s Dark/Ghost typing may look flexible, but flexibility is not the same as raid output. The available comparison does not provide a competitive Sableye DPS/TDO line, and the tier analysis explicitly says its damage is too low for serious raids. Use it when its defensive or progression benefits solve a specific problem; choose Gengar or Banette when the goal is Ghost damage.
Dark raids: Mega Houndoom versus Mega Absol
Mega Houndoom: the balanced listed Dark performer
The September 2026 Dark comparison reports 23.04 DPS and 544.2 TDO for Mega Houndoom using Snarl and Dark Pulse+. The source describes Houndoom as a leading Dark attacker in the game state covered by that article. Its Dark/Fire typing gives it a different set of resistances and weaknesses from both Sableye and Absol, so the boss’s charged attacks still determine whether the headline numbers translate into practical damage.
The plus sign in Dark Pulse+ matters: move availability and additional Charged Attack mechanics influence the ranking. Confirm that your Houndoom has the stated move version before applying the table’s result. A regular move set, a different event availability state or a later balance change can produce a different comparison.

Mega Absol is a pure Dark Mega recommended with Snarl and Brutal Swing. The current analysis characterizes it as a high-DPS Dark attacker but calls out its low bulk and fragility. That makes dodging, boss move knowledge and party timing more important than they are for a sturdier choice.

Absol can be the right button when you need Dark damage immediately and can keep it alive long enough to attack. It is a less forgiving investment for players who raid without dodging, face wide-area charged moves or want the Mega boost to last through a larger portion of the battle. The useful comparison is not “Absol is best” but “Absol trades staying power for offensive pressure.”
Where Mega Sableye fits in a Dark matchup
Sableye can supply Dark-type Mega benefits while presenting a defensive profile unlike Absol’s. However, the available analysis does not place it near Houndoom or Absol for Dark raid damage. If the boss’s moves threaten Absol and your group needs a Mega that survives longer, Sableye may be a situational support choice, but you should accept the damage loss before entering the lobby.
How to choose for a specific raid
1. Identify the type you actually need
Start with the boss’s weaknesses and your party’s planned attacks. Use a Ghost Mega for a Ghost-focused counter team and a Dark Mega for Dark-focused counters. Sableye can cover either type in principle, but its low damage means that dual typing should not override the raid’s time or damage requirements.

2. Check the boss’s fast and charged moves
Typing changes the practical ranking. Mega Gengar’s Poison subtyping creates a Psychic weakness that can sharply reduce its survival against the wrong move set. Mega Absol’s low bulk increases faint risk even without a type disadvantage. Houndoom, Banette and Sableye each have different defensive interactions. Use the in-game recommended party, a reputable simulator or a raid calculator that includes the boss’s moves before deciding.
3. Decide whether DPS, TDO or group contribution matters most
- DPS: prioritizes how quickly the Mega deals damage while alive. This favors offensive choices such as Gengar or Absol in the cited matchups.
- TDO: measures damage delivered before fainting. Houndoom’s reported 544.2 TDO and Gengar’s 469.0 TDO illustrate why a lower moment-to-moment output can still matter over a full life.
- Group contribution: includes the Mega damage boost supplied to other players’ attacks. A Pokémon that survives longer can keep that boost active, while a fragile attacker may need a relobby.
These measures are not interchangeable. A ranking based on DPS should not be presented as a guarantee of the largest team contribution.
4. Account for your existing roster
If you already have a level 50 Mega Gengar, raising Mega Absol is not automatically wasteful or mandatory. The choice depends on whether you need a Dark-type Mega, whether Dark bosses are common in your schedule, whether your Gengar’s Ghost role is already covered and whether you can manage Absol’s fragility. The same logic applies in reverse: owning a strong Houndoom does not eliminate the value of Gengar for Ghost-weak bosses.

5. Consider the catch bonus and Mega Level
Mega Evolution is not only a raid attack button. Mega Levels provide bonuses while that Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, including catch-related bonuses for Pokémon sharing its type. A dual-type Mega can therefore be useful during a catch-focused session even when it is not your best damage dealer. Choose the form that matches the species you expect to catch, then verify the active Mega Level and bonus before starting the encounter.
Mega Evolution rules that affect the decision
Only one Mega can be active
Niantic’s Mega Evolution Help Center states: “Trainers can only have one Mega-Evolved Pokémon active at a time.” You cannot run Mega Gengar and Mega Houndoom simultaneously on the same account to cover both Ghost and Dark bonuses. Select the form that supports the current raid or catch target.
Mega Evolution is temporary
Mega Evolution boosts battle performance for a limited period rather than permanently changing the Pokémon. Plan the activation around the raid window, a coordinated group or a catch session. The temporary nature also means you can build Mega Level progress over repeated activations without treating the form as a permanent replacement for the base Pokémon.
Repeated activations raise Mega Level
Repeatedly Mega Evolving an individual Pokémon raises its Mega Level. Higher Mega Levels provide additional benefits while that Pokémon is Mega-Evolved. This progression can justify activating a lower-DPS Mega for utility, but it does not turn Sableye’s current attack stat into a top-tier raid stat.

How Super Max progression works
Trainers must first reach Max, then spend Mega Energy to power Sableye up to Super Max. The requirement makes Mega Energy part of the progression decision: saving energy for a future Super Max level may be more valuable than repeatedly activating Sableye only for a modest present-day raid contribution.
Night Shade+ and Super Max could change later rankings, but the announcement does not establish that Sableye will become a leading Dark or Ghost raid attacker. Until live performance and updated analysis are available, keep the current C-tier raid assessment separate from the future feature announcement.
Investment recommendations by player goal
You want the strongest Ghost Mega now
Prioritize Mega Gengar with Lick and Shadow Ball when the boss does not punish its Poison typing. Keep Mega Banette as the alternative when avoiding Gengar’s Psychic weakness matters or when Banette is substantially better powered on your account.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →You want a Dark Mega for raid damage
Use Mega Houndoom with Snarl and Dark Pulse+ for the cited damage-and-TDO profile. Consider Mega Absol with Snarl and Brutal Swing when you can manage its low bulk and want a more aggressive Dark option. Compare the boss’s moves before choosing.
You want a durable, flexible or progression-focused Mega
Mega Sableye is reasonable for collection goals, same-type catch bonuses, Mega Level advancement and the announced Super Max path. Do not spend resources on it under the assumption that it matches Gengar, Banette, Houndoom or Absol for raid damage.
You are building a first Mega roster
Start with the type you use most often and the Mega that fills a gap in your current counters. A player with no effective Ghost Mega gains more from Gengar or Banette than from Sableye. A player already covered for Ghost but lacking Dark support may get more practical value from Houndoom or Absol. Sableye can follow once its utility, event progression or catch bonus is relevant.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Equating Defense with raid strength: Sableye’s 216 Defense explains its durability profile, not a high damage ranking.
- Comparing unlike move sets: the cited values require Lick/Shadow Ball, Shadow Claw/Shadow Ball, Snarl/Dark Pulse+ or Snarl/Brutal Swing as specified.
- Treating DPS as a universal result: the published numbers are source-specific estimates, not guarantees for every boss or party.
- Ignoring typing: Gengar’s Psychic weakness and Absol’s fragility can matter more than a headline ranking.
- Activating the wrong Mega for a catch session: Mega bonuses depend on the active Pokémon’s type and Mega Level.
- Assuming announced content is live: Sableye’s Super Max and Night Shade+ are scheduled for November 1–5, 2026, after the October 13 reference date.
Bottom line for October 2026
Mega Sableye is a defensive Dark/Ghost specialist and a progression project, not the raid attacker to choose by default. Mega Gengar leads the cited Ghost comparison at 22.39 DPS and 469.0 TDO with Lick and Shadow Ball, while Mega Banette offers lower listed damage without Gengar’s Psychic weakness. Mega Houndoom leads the cited Dark comparison at 23.04 DPS and 544.2 TDO with Snarl and Dark Pulse+, and Mega Absol offers high Dark pressure at the cost of low survivability.
