The MediaTek Helio G36 is an entry-level 4G smartphone chipset announced on February 13, 2023, for entry gaming phones. It has eight Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked up to 2.2 GHz and PowerVR GE8320 graphics listed up to 680 MHz. Published benchmark results vary by test version, phone, and reporting method, so no single score represents every Helio G36 device.

MediaTek Helio G36 specifications

MediaTek’s product page describes the G36 as a 12 nm FinFET chipset. Its listed figures are supported capabilities and maxima; phone makers decide which memory, display, cameras, and other components to include in a particular handset.

Component MediaTek-listed specification
CPU Octa-core, 64-bit Arm Cortex-A53; maximum frequency 2.2 GHz
GPU IMG PowerVR GE8320; up to 680 MHz
Memory LPDDR3 at 933 MHz or LPDDR4X at 1600 MHz; up to 8 GB
Storage eMMC 5.1
Display Maximum resolution 2400 × 1080; maximum refresh rate 90 Hz
Mobile connectivity LTE, including Cat-7 downlink/Cat-13 uplink and Cat-4 modes; dual 4G SIM features
Other wireless and location Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, and support for multiple GNSS systems
Camera and video Camera support up to 50 MP; 1080p/30 fps video encoding; H.264 encoding and H.264/HEVC playback at 1080p/30 fps

The 50 MP camera figure is a chipset capability, not a promise that every G36 phone has that sensor or produces the same image quality. Likewise, a phone using the G36 may have less memory, a lower-resolution or lower-refresh-rate screen, or different cameras than the listed maximums.

What benchmark scores have been reported?

Benchmarks test a complete phone, not an isolated chipset. Results can vary with the benchmark version, handset configuration, software, and testing conditions. Keep the test name and the publisher’s stated context attached to each score.

Benchmark result Reported score and context
AnTuTu 11 NanoReview displays 193,858 overall: CPU 94,323, GPU 12,097, memory 48,922, and UX 38,516. The page also shows user-submitted AnTuTu 11 results from 164,708 to 195,541, dated February through September 2026; these are submissions, not a controlled lab series.
AnTuTu, version not identified in the visible summary 91mobiles reports 158,812: CPU 53,487, GPU 17,764, memory 49,716, and UX 37,845. It describes this as the highest recorded result among tested devices with the chipset and says its figures come from real-world device testing.
Geekbench 6 NanoReview displays 189 single-core and 781 multi-core, with three CPU samples stated; it shows fewer than three GPU-compute samples.
Geekbench, version not identified in the visible summary 91mobiles reports 190 single-core and 840 multi-core.
3DMark Sling Shot Extreme (ES 3.1) Unlimited Physics Notebookcheck lists 877 points for a Xiaomi Redmi A3 with the Helio G36 and 3 GB of RAM. This is a result for that phone configuration, not a universal chipset score.

The AnTuTu figures should not be treated as directly interchangeable: NanoReview explicitly labels its result AnTuTu 11, while the 91mobiles summary does not specify the version. The two Geekbench summaries also do not identify the same version. Different aggregation methods and phone configurations further limit direct comparisons. Do not average these figures or read them as a precise prediction of everyday speed.

Is the Helio G36 suitable for gaming?

MediaTek positions the G36 for entry-level gaming smartphones. It says HyperEngine 2.0 Lite dynamically manages CPU, GPU, and memory using power, thermal, and gameplay factors. MediaTek also describes networking features that predict Wi-Fi/LTE concurrency and handle calls with the aim of preserving data connectivity during gameplay. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent proof of a particular performance gain.

The available benchmark evidence does not establish sustained frame rates across G36 phones. A benchmark score alone cannot tell you how a particular game will run over time: the phone’s cooling, software, memory configuration, display resolution, and game settings all matter. Before choosing a device for gaming, look for tests of the exact handset and configuration, including sustained gameplay and observed frame rates under consistent conditions.

Is the Helio G36 a 5G chipset?

No. The Helio G36 is a 4G chipset, not a 5G platform. MediaTek lists LTE connectivity, dual 4G SIM features, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.0. A phone with this chipset therefore does not gain 5G connectivity from the G36.

What MediaTek’s specifications mean for an actual phone

  • Display: A maximum supported resolution of 2400 × 1080 and refresh rate of 90 Hz do not mean every G36 phone uses a screen with those specifications.
  • Memory and storage: The chipset supports up to 8 GB of LPDDR4X memory (or LPDDR3); the phone maker selects the actual memory amount and storage configuration.
  • Camera: Support for cameras up to 50 MP does not establish the sensor, image quality, or camera features fitted to a particular model.
  • Video: MediaTek lists encoding at 1080p/30 fps and H.264/HEVC playback at 1080p/30 fps.

MediaTek’s product page summarizes the CPU positioning this way: “The MediaTek Helio G36 provides entry gaming smartphones with peak speeds of 2.2GHz from its octa-core Arm Cortex-A53 CPU.” This is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent performance measurement.

How to compare two Helio G36 phones

For a useful comparison, match the benchmark version and test type, then check the exact phone model and RAM configuration. For gaming, prioritize consistent sustained-play testing and observed frame rates over a chipset-wide score. Also compare the display actually fitted, software support, regional variant, and current local price. The reported chipset benchmarks do not establish which G36 phone is the best buy.
