McDonald’s said a 4% dividend increase announced on September 17, 2026, marked its 50th consecutive year of dividend increases and qualified it for the Dividend Kings. The new quarterly dividend is $1.93 per share, or $7.72 annualized. That milestone documents a long record of increases; it does not prove the shares are cheap or guarantee future dividends.
Is McDonald’s a Dividend King?
Yes. In its September 17, 2026 announcement, McDonald’s said it had raised its dividend for 50 consecutive years and described Dividend Kings as U.S. public companies with at least 50 consecutive annual dividend increases. The company said fewer than 60 U.S. public companies met that definition. What is McDonald’s dividend?
McDonald’s announced a 4% increase in its quarterly cash dividend to $1.93 per share. The equivalent annual amount is $7.72 per share, calculated by multiplying the quarterly rate by four; it is not a promise that the company will maintain that rate indefinitely.

What does a 50-year increase streak prove?
It proves that McDonald’s has repeatedly increased its dividend over a long period. It is evidence of historical capital returns, not a guarantee of future payments, future increases, business performance, or a particular investment return.

In its 2025 Form 10-K, McDonald’s said future dividend amounts are considered after reviewing profitability expectations and financing needs, and that dividends are declared at the board’s discretion. The same filing reported these fiscal 2025 figures:

Does “At Fast Food Prices” mean McDonald’s stock is cheap?
That claim cannot be established from the dividend record or from McDonald’s being a fast-food company. A judgment about whether MCD shares are cheap needs a dated share price, a named valuation measure, and a comparison set—such as specified peers or the company’s own valuation history. The available dividend announcement and 2025 annual report do not supply a current share price, yield, payout ratio, or comparative valuation, so they cannot answer that question.
For a useful dividend-stock comparison, investors should align the measurement date and definitions across companies, then examine annualized dividend and yield at the chosen share price, payout relative to earnings and free cash flow, dividend growth, business and balance-sheet risks, and valuation against a clearly identified peer group or company history.

Does it mean McDonald’s menu is inexpensive?
Not necessarily. “Fast food prices” is not a defined benchmark: a fair menu-price comparison would need to name the country or local market, item or meal, ordering channel, observation date, and comparison restaurant. McDonald’s 2025 filing discusses inflationary pressures and management responses such as menu-price adjustments, cost controls, rapid inventory turnover, and substantial property holdings. What investors can take from the milestone
The 50-year record is a meaningful historical credential, while the next dividend decision remains subject to board discretion and the company’s financial circumstances. As CFO Ian Borden put it in the September 17, 2026 company release: “This milestone is the result of decades-long commitment to maintaining our financial discipline and rewarding our shareholders.” That is management’s explanation of the milestone, not an independent assessment of valuation or future dividend safety.
