When you’re building a TikTok draft—editing clips, adding captions, lining up effects—you probably want a backup you can keep outside the app. Saving a draft to your camera roll is also useful for reposting, making edits in another tool, or just archiving your work.

Confirm the draft type
Some items you create inside TikTok may appear as Drafts, while others are stored as unfinished edits or temporary projects. If you can’t find the video in Drafts, start from the last place you worked on it (your profile or the “Drafts” screen in the Create flow).
Make sure you have enough storage
Uncompressed camera-roll saves can still be large. If you’re near the limit, saves may fail silently. Check free space in your phone settings before retrying.
Method 1: Save a TikTok Draft to Camera Roll (iPhone and iPad)
Use this path when TikTok shows an export/download option for the draft. It’s the most direct way to get a file into your camera roll.

- Open the TikTok app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap Profile (bottom right).
- Tap Drafts (it may appear as a tab or a section). If you don’t see it, go to your drafts from the Create flow and look for the Drafts option.
- Tap the draft video you want to save.
- Tap Next (or Edit, then Next) to open the posting/share screen.
- Look for a button that says Save to device or Save video. Tap it.
- Wait for the export to finish. TikTok will save the file to the camera roll (Photos app).

- Open TikTok on your Android phone.
- Tap Profile (bottom right).
- Tap Drafts.
- Select the draft you want.
- Tap Next to reach the posting/share screen.
- Find and tap Save to device or Save video.
- Wait for the download/export to complete.
- Open the Gallery or Photos app and check Recents.

- Open Profile > Drafts.
- Open your draft and tap Next to reach posting settings.
- Set visibility to Only me (if available) or the closest private option. If you see Who can view this video, choose Only me.
- Tap Post (or Share).
- Immediately open the posted video on your profile (it may appear as a new post).
- Look for the Share icon and select Save video / Save to device.
- Confirm it saved to your camera roll.
After saving
If you don’t want the post to remain, delete it from your profile once the video is safely in your camera roll.

TikTok saves what it exports at the selected/available quality level, which typically depends on your original upload settings, the final render, and current app behavior. Don’t assume the saved file will match TikTok’s streaming appearance pixel-for-pixel.

1) Force close TikTok and retry
Exit TikTok completely, reopen it, and go back to the draft. A stuck render state can hide or break the save/export flow.
2) Update TikTok to the latest version
Export and draft behaviors change frequently. Update TikTok from the App Store (iOS/iPadOS) or Google Play Store (Android), then try saving again.
3) Check permissions again
On iPhone/iPad, verify Settings > TikTok > Photos is set to allow saving. On Android, confirm TikTok can access photos/videos in the app permissions screen.
4) Clear TikTok cache (Android) or reboot device (iOS)

5) Try the Publish-then-Download fallback
If direct “Save to device” isn’t working, use Method 3: temporarily post privately, then download/save from the posted video.
6) If the draft is missing, don’t assume it will return
Draf ts aren’t always eternal. If you logged out, reinstalled the app, changed accounts, cleared storage in a way that removes local content, or used multiple accounts, the draft may not be recoverable. Always confirm you’re signed into the same account you created the draft with.
