If an EXE keeps returning in C:ProgramData after Malwarebytes quarantines or deletes it, the visible file may be only one part of the problem. A startup entry, scheduled task, service, registry setting, or another persistence mechanism could be recreating it. Preserve the scan evidence and use a machine-specific cleanup process rather than repeatedly deleting the file.
Why an EXE can reappear after Malwarebytes removes it
Quarantining or deleting a detected file does not necessarily remove whatever caused it to run or be recreated. A separate persistence source may remain, or another component may restore the file. The available cases support this general explanation, but they do not establish which mechanism is responsible for any particular EXE in ProgramData. Do not assume that a reported filename or cleanup method from another computer applies to yours.

A Malwarebytes forum case documents repeated detections after quarantine, a reboot, and another scan. In a separate historical case, a ProgramData file was repeatedly blocked and the expert used collected logs to prepare a computer-specific fix. These cases illustrate the pattern; they do not identify the cause of your specific detections. Malwarebytes Resolved Malware Removal Logs
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minutePreserve the evidence before making more changes
Repeatedly deleting the visible file can make it harder to understand what is happening. Save the detection details and diagnostic logs before trying additional cleanup tools.

Export Malwarebytes scan history
In Malwarebytes Toolset, open the Scan component and select its calendar icon to view Scan History. A history entry can include a summary, Scan Report, and Repair Report; the summary can be copied or exported. The Toolset documentation gives the default history location as %ProgramData%MalwarebytesMalwarebytes ToolsetLogs. Those files are compressed and encrypted for viewing in Toolset. Gather Support Tool logs if a helper requests them
The Malwarebytes forum workflow may request diagnostic logs from the Malwarebytes Support Tool. In that case, open the tool, choose Advanced, then Gather Logs, and provide the resulting mbst-grab-results.zip as instructed. Do not post logs publicly if they contain information you do not want exposed; follow the helper’s instructions for sharing them. Malwarebytes forum removal-log instructions

Use a safe, machine-specific cleanup process
- Keep a disconnected backup. Back up personal files to external storage that is not connected to the affected computer. Malwarebytes forum guidance recommends an external backup before cleanup.
- Avoid adding more cleanup software. Do not download random “cleaners,” run unrelated scans, or make manual registry and startup changes while a trained helper is reviewing the case. Those actions can alter evidence or complicate removal.
- Follow instructions in order. If a Malwarebytes helper requests a diagnostic tool or a particular action, follow those steps and attach the requested logs. Disable other real-time protection only if specifically instructed, and re-enable it afterward.
- Do not reuse another person’s fixlist. FRST fixlists are tailored to the logs and system they were prepared for. A historical ProgramData case used a machine-specific fixlist and required FRST to run as administrator; that is not a general instruction to run FRST or copy someone else’s script.
Malwarebytes forum administrator AdvancedSetup cautions that “Searching, detecting, and removing malware isn’t instantaneous and there is no guarantee to repair every system.” A helper’s eventual “all clear” should come after the requested steps and verification, not from the disappearance of one filename.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

When instructed to reboot or scan again, complete those steps and review the resulting Scan Report and Repair Report in Malwarebytes Toolset. If the detection returns, share the updated results with the helper instead of assuming the previous cleanup succeeded. Wait for the helper to confirm the system is clear before closing the case or resuming ordinary use.

- Maintain backups and periodically verify that you can restore from them.
- Use a password manager and strong, unique passwords for important accounts.
