Magic Valley is a large Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge modpack built around four complementary styles: magic, technology, adventure and exploration, and building or homesteading. The current listed client release is Magic Valley-0.19.4, updated June 3, 2026. Install that release as a separate launcher instance, use Forge 47.4.10, and allocate about 7 GB of RAM to start. For multiplayer, use a server archive that matches the client release exactly; a different pack version can prevent clients from joining.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
This guide covers the launcher installation, memory and distance settings, version-safe dedicated-server setup, managed-hosting choices, and practical ways to choose a gameplay route without losing track of the pack’s progression.

Magic Valley is a Minecraft Java Edition kitchen-sink pack by Mclovin4100 for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge. Its listing combines magic, technology, RPG and adventure systems, exploration, quests, construction, automation, and homesteading rather than forcing one linear play style. The project describes the pack as having “something for everyone” because the different paths still let players progress.
| Item | Published detail | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft edition | Java Edition, 1.20.1 | Use the Java PC version; Bedrock installations are not compatible. |
| Mod loader | Forge | The client and server must both run Forge, not Fabric or NeoForge. |

What you need before installing
- Minecraft Java Edition for PC. Sign in with the account that owns Java Edition and keep the game launcher available for the first authentication.
- A launcher that imports CurseForge modpacks. Create a dedicated instance so Magic Valley’s mods, configuration files, saves, and overrides remain separate from other installations.
- Free memory. Start with 7 GB allocated to the instance. The project lists 6.5–10 GB as its recommended range; allocating memory is not the same as having that much free system RAM, so leave headroom for the operating system and other applications.
- Disk space and patience for the first start. A large pack must unpack and build caches. Keep the instance on a local drive with several gigabytes free beyond the downloaded archive; the project does not publish a guaranteed client storage figure.
- A matching release for multiplayer. Every client joining a dedicated server needs the same Magic Valley release and loader build.
Install Magic Valley-0.19.4 in a launcher
- Install or open your Java-compatible launcher. Choose the launcher’s modpack-import function rather than creating a plain 1.20.1 profile. If the launcher asks for a game directory, use a location you can back up independently.
- Import the exact pack release. Select
Magic Valley-0.19.4. Keep its manifest and overrides together; do not copy only themodsfolder into an unrelated instance. A partial import can omit configuration, scripts, or required resource files. - Verify the game and loader versions. The profile should show Minecraft
1.20.1and Forge47.4.10for this pack file. If the launcher proposes another Minecraft version or loader, stop and correct the profile before downloading additional files. - Set memory before the first launch. Allocate 7 GB initially. If your computer has enough physical memory and the project page’s current guidance still supports it, you can move within the 6.5–10 GB range. Do not allocate nearly all installed RAM; that causes operating-system swapping and can make the game less stable.
- Set conservative distances. Begin at 8–10 chunks of render distance and 6–9 chunks of simulation distance, the ranges given by the project listing. Render distance controls how far terrain is drawn; simulation distance controls how far entities, crops, and other game logic keep running. Lower simulation distance first when a world feels overloaded.
- Confirm the Java runtime and optional JVM tuning. If you use JVM arguments from the current project page, copy the current values and change only one setting at a time after confirming the Java version selected by the launcher and the memory available on your computer. Old arguments copied from another pack can be harmful.
- Launch once without adding extras. The first run may spend several minutes loading hundreds of mods. Wait for the title screen, create a temporary test world, and confirm that the menu, keybind screen, and basic movement work before installing shaders or extra client mods.
- Record the working profile. Note the release number, Forge build, memory allocation, and any changed video settings. This makes it possible to restore a known-good instance after an update.
RAM, distance settings, and performance decisions
How much RAM should you allocate?
The practical starting point is 7 GB for the client. The published recommendation is 6.5–10 GB, but the upper end is not automatically better. Java garbage collection still needs free physical memory, and a computer with 16 GB total RAM should not hand 10 GB to Minecraft while a browser, voice chat, and recording software are open. Increase allocation only when the launcher reports memory pressure or the game repeatedly runs out of heap while your operating system remains comfortable.
What to lower first
- Reduce simulation distance toward the lower end of the 6–9 chunk range if farms, mobs, or chunk ticks cause pauses.
- Reduce render distance below 8 chunks if frame rate drops while looking across large terrain or new structures.
- Remove shaders and high-resolution resource packs during diagnosis; they add graphics load unrelated to mod count.
- Close other memory-heavy applications before increasing Minecraft’s heap.
There is no published frame-rate target for Magic Valley, so treat these settings as a controlled starting point rather than a promise of a particular FPS.
Common client problems and fixes
The launcher says a mod is missing or the game stops during loading
Recheck that the instance was imported from the complete 0.19.4 package, including its manifest and overrides. A manually assembled mods folder can omit a dependency or use a file from another release. Remove any extra mods added after the initial test, then launch the untouched instance. If it works, add extras one at a time.

The game starts, but a multiplayer server rejects the connection
Compare the complete pack release and Forge build on the client with the server. “1.20.1” alone is not enough: a 0.19.4 client and a 0.19.3 server archive can contain different mod files and configurations. Install the server’s exact release on every client, or obtain a server archive explicitly built for the client release you selected.
Startup is extremely slow or appears frozen
Allow the first launch to finish before force-quitting. Large packs build caches and may show long periods of high disk activity. If the process repeatedly fails, check that the instance has at least the starting memory allocation, that the selected Java runtime is the one supported by your launcher, and that the drive has free space. Test with no shaders or optional additions.
World play becomes stuttery after adding automation
Automation, machines, farms, and loaded chunks can increase simulation work. Lower simulation distance, reduce permanently loaded areas, and avoid keeping every dimension active at once. Because no independent capacity benchmark is published, measure your own world rather than assuming the “400-plus mods” figure predicts a particular player count.

Set up a dedicated Magic Valley server
A dedicated server should be built from a server package that corresponds to the client release, not by uploading a normal client directory. The project pages identify a CurseForge server archive named 1.20.1 Forge 0.19.3.zip, uploaded May 7, 2026, with a listed size of 1.60 GB. That is not automatically the correct archive for the 0.19.4 client. Release numbers can change, so verify the archive’s pack version immediately before creating a world.
- Choose the release first. Decide whether your group will play 0.19.4 or another published release. Write that number down and use it for both the server and every client.
- Download the corresponding server pack. Prefer the server archive supplied for that exact release. Do not treat a similarly named 1.20.1 archive as interchangeable.
- Create a clean server directory. Unpack the archive into a new folder with no files from another Forge server. Keep the archive outside the live directory so it can be used for recovery.
- Run the included Forge/server launch script. Use the script supplied with the archive rather than inventing a command from a different pack. The first run normally creates the server files and stops for the EULA.
- Accept the EULA. Open the generated
eula.txt, review the license, change the setting toeula=trueonly if you agree, save it, and run the launch script again. - Configure
server.properties. Set the world name, difficulty, gameplay options, view distance, online-mode policy, and any whitelist or permission settings your group requires. Make one change at a time and keep a backup of the original file. - Start and watch the console. Wait for the server to report that it has finished loading before connecting. The first world-generation pass can take longer than later starts.
- Protect the world. Stop the server cleanly before copying its world directory. Schedule backups, retain more than one generation, and test restoring a backup before relying on it.
- Give players the connection details. Use the server’s address and port in the multiplayer screen. The project listing names
Magic-Valley.kinetic.hostas its official server address, but current availability and the required port should be confirmed at connection time. - Test with one matching client. Join using the same pack release and Forge build. Resolve version or missing-mod errors before inviting the rest of the group.
Server resources: what is known and what is not
The published pages do not provide a guaranteed CPU class, storage requirement, player limit, or view-distance capacity. A mod count cannot substitute for those measurements: world-generation speed, chunk loading, automation, dimensions, and concurrent players all change the workload.
Size a server around your actual plan:
- Small private group: prioritize fast single-thread performance and enough RAM for the chosen release, then test with the distances and automation your group will use.
- Exploration-heavy worlds: allow extra storage and monitor disk usage because generating new terrain and multiple dimensions grows the world quickly.
- Machine- or farm-heavy bases: watch tick times and loaded chunks; a lower view or simulation distance can help more than simply adding memory.
- Several simultaneous players: run a load test with representative travel and machines before opening the server publicly. There is no published player-count guarantee to rely on.
Managed hosting options
If you do not want to maintain Java, Forge files, firewall rules, backups, and restarts yourself, commercial hosts advertise Magic Valley support. Their offers can change, so verify the exact pack release, region, hardware limits, backup policy, and billing terms before ordering.

| Provider | Published Magic Valley capability | Published price or detail | Verify before purchase |
|---|---|---|---|
| MintServers | Advertises Magic Valley hosting | A listed plan at $9.99 | RAM and CPU allocation, storage, player slots, location, backups, update timing, and whether the $9.99 price recurs or is promotional. |
| VeryGames | Advertises Magic Valley server installation | Price not stated | Supported release, one-click versus manual installation, modpack updates, limits, backups, and support response. |
| BoxToPlay | Advertises one-click installation for the Forge 1.20.1 pack | Price not stated | Which Magic Valley release is installed, available Forge build, upgrade controls, region, backups, and restart scheduling. |
Use the same comparison checklist for any host: exact pack and Forge-version support; whether a matching server archive is supplied; RAM and CPU limits; storage and automated backups; player slots and geography; upgrade and rollback controls; update timing; whitelist and permission tools; and scheduled restarts. A one-click installer is convenient only if it installs the same release your clients use.
Choose a gameplay route
Exploration and structures
Start with the exploration route if you want new terrain, structures, dimensions, and boss encounters to drive progression. The listing highlights Twilight Forest, Aether, Ad Astra, Deeper and Darker, and Cataclysm. Travel with spare storage, food, and a way to mark portals or bases; moving into several dimensions can generate substantial new terrain on a shared server.
Technology and automation
Mekanism, Applied Energistics, and Create provide the technology-oriented path. A sensible order is to establish basic power and storage, then automate materials you repeatedly gather, and only afterward build large processing chains. Keep machines chunk-loaded deliberately: permanently loaded factories affect server tick time even when no player is standing beside them.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Magic and spells
Botania, Ars Nouveau, and Iron’s Spells support a magic-focused progression. Concentrate on one system at first so its resources, spell components, and equipment do not compete with every other path. You can add technology or exploration goals later without abandoning the magic route.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Building, farming, and homesteading
Choose the homesteading route if your priority is a comfortable base, crops, animals, decoration, and steady resource production. This is also a useful low-pressure start for a group: one player can farm and build while others explore or automate. Keep farms organized and avoid loading more production chunks than the server needs.
Keeping a multiplayer world healthy
- Pin the exact client and server release in your group’s instructions.
- Back up the world before every pack update, configuration change, or major dimension expedition.
- Test an update on a copied world first; never experiment on the only live save.
- Have every player remove temporary client-only additions when diagnosing a connection problem.
- Record changes to
server.properties, permissions, and whitelist entries so a replacement server can be rebuilt. - Check the project’s current release page before updating. A newer client package may require a different server archive.
With a clean, version-matched instance and a starting allocation near 7 GB of RAM, Magic Valley is ready for whichever of its four broad routes your group prefers. The important operational rule is consistency: one release, one Forge build, and one tested configuration across the server and every client.
