The pack was formerly known as Wizardry Adventures. Its design revolves around character progression rather than a short collection of unrelated mods: you choose an origin and combat style, learn several magic systems, complete FTB Quests, improve skills, explore dungeons and eventually challenge powerful bosses.

The major magic systems
Iron’s Spells and Spellbooks is the central focus, supported by Eidolon, Embers Rekindled, Goety, Illage and Spell-age, Malum and Primal Magick. Each system has its own progression and guide material, so the pack rewards learning one branch at a time instead of trying to craft everything immediately.
#1 Best Overall
- DELUXE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, three Bedrock add-ons, three exclusive Character Creator items, and 700 Minecoins.
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.
- SURVIVE THE ADVENTURE — Face mysterious foes, travel across exciting landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).
Exploration, combat and progression
FTB Quests supplies structured objectives, while skills and leveling give exploration and combat a longer-term purpose. The pack description also lists Create, Tinkers and Better Combat, more than 400 pages of JEI item information, and more than 50 bosses, including Ice and Fire Dragons. The result is a substantial progression pack: JEI helps you discover recipes, quests provide direction, and bosses give later-game targets.
Requirements and version matching
You need Minecraft for PC and a launcher capable of installing Forge 1.20.1 modpacks. This is not a vanilla, Bedrock or other-version installation. The client, dedicated server, Minecraft version, Forge loader and pack release should all correspond.

- Use a Forge 1.20.1 profile or an importer that creates the profile automatically.
- Select Magic and Tweaks release 1.2.5 for a new installation, unless a server administrator deliberately runs another release.
- Do not mix a 1.2.5 client with a different server-pack release. A mismatch can prevent connection or produce missing-mod and registry errors.
No authoritative minimum RAM figure, JVM argument set, benchmark or tested player capacity has been published for this pack. Treat hardware as a planning variable: world generation, view distance, number of players, boss fights and other running services all affect demand. A hosting company advertises 16 GB as an “optimal performance” recommendation, but that is a provider statement, not an official pack requirement.

How to install the client
- Install the launcher and Minecraft PC edition. Confirm that the launcher can create Forge 1.20.1 instances.
- Open the modpack catalog. Search for Magic and Tweaks – RPG Edition or project ID 1386387.
- Choose release 1.2.5. Check that the displayed Minecraft version is 1.20.1 and that the release date is September 9, 2026.
- Install the profile. Let the launcher download Forge and the pack’s dependencies. If your launcher supports manual imports, use the official client ZIP instead.
- Launch once before adding custom changes. The first run may take longer while Forge and the pack finish their initial configuration.
- Create or open a world. Wait for the initial mod configuration to complete before judging startup time or changing keybinds.
First-launch checklist
- Open the FTB Quest menu with I.
- Read the Guide chapters for the individual magic mods rather than guessing recipes.
- Use the first Combat Style Manual to select an origin and preferred playstyle.
- If the manual is lost, open the FTB Quest menu and visit Dungeons and Combat for instructions to craft another manual and reset the origin.
- Keep the instance on release 1.2.5 if you are joining a 1.2.5 server.
Keybinds and commands you will use immediately
| Input | Function | Early-use advice |
|---|---|---|
| I | FTB Quest menu and guide chapters | Use it to follow objectives and read mod guides. |
| L | Advancement quests | Check it when a progression goal appears outside the main quest book. |
| K | Skills menu | Review available leveling choices as your character advances. |
| M | World map | Right-click the map and choose Claim to protect territory. |
| C | Zoom | Useful for scouting terrain, structures and threats. |
| Left-Alt | Crawl | Use it for low passages and careful dungeon movement. |
/trigger darkrtp |
Random teleport trigger | Type /trigger to discover available trigger commands on the server. |
If a key does nothing, open the launcher’s in-game Controls screen and search for the action. Another mod may already use the key, or the binding may have changed after importing the instance. Resolve conflicts before assuming the feature is missing.
A sensible early-game route
The pack does not require one official order for every player. A practical sequence is an editorial recommendation based on the systems supplied with the pack:
- Choose an origin. Read the Combat Style Manual and select the combat identity you want to develop.
- Read the magic guides. Use the Guide chapters from the FTB Quest menu to understand the first spell and resource paths.
- Start the FTB quests. They provide concrete objectives and expose mechanics that JEI alone does not explain.
- Claim a base before inviting others. Open the map with M, right-click and select Claim so your early storage and crafting area is protected.
- Invest in skills. Open K regularly and make choices that support your chosen origin and equipment.
- Explore dungeons as your gear improves. Use the quest and combat sections to identify the next preparation step instead of entering every boss encounter immediately.
- Use random teleport deliberately. On a multiplayer server,
/trigger darkrtpcan separate new exploration from established bases; type/triggerfirst if the server exposes additional triggers.
How to set up a dedicated server
Self-managed installation
- Obtain the matching server archive. Use Magic and Tweaks Server Pack-1.2.5.zip, not a client-only instance.
- Prepare a Forge 1.20.1 server. Install or use the Forge server files supplied by the pack’s server setup, keeping Minecraft and Forge on 1.20.1.
- Extract the pack into the server directory. Preserve the supplied folder structure and configuration files.
- Start the server once. The first launch creates required files and may stop while waiting for the EULA decision.
- Accept Minecraft’s EULA. Set the EULA value to acceptance in the generated EULA file, then start the Forge server again.
- Allow initial configuration to finish. Do not invite players until the world has generated and the server reaches its normal ready state.
- Keep client and server releases identical. Every player should install Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 1.20.1 and the same Magic and Tweaks release as the server.
- Back up before configuration edits. Copy the world and server configuration before changing claims, gameplay settings or updating the pack.
The exact RAM allocation should be measured for the intended player count and world-generation workload. Because no authoritative baseline or JVM flags are published, avoid copying a supposedly universal argument line from an unrelated pack. Start conservatively, monitor the server during exploration and boss events, and increase resources only when observations show that it is necessary.

- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that is unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world full of surprises.
- SURVIVAL ADVENTURES — Face mysterious foes, travel across varied landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play solo or join friends in local split-screen and cross-platform play across console, mobile, and PC. Online multiplayer supports up to 8 players.
- COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.
Claims configuration
The pack uses Open Parties and Claims. The 1.0.3 changelog specifies 100 default claims and 0 forceload claims. To change those values, edit:
world/serverconfig/openpartiesandclaims-server.toml
Stop the server before editing, retain a backup, change only the values your community understands, and restart to test. Increasing ordinary claims can help a larger group protect bases; changing forceload claims can affect persistent chunk activity and therefore server load. The defaults are a configuration starting point, not a guarantee that every community should use the same limits.

Multiplayer launch checks
- Confirm the server is running the same 1.2.5 pack release as each client.
- Test a fresh player’s ability to open quests, the map and the skills menu.
- Claim a small test area, leave it, and verify that another player cannot alter protected blocks unless the parties configuration permits it.
- Test
/trigger darkrtpwith an ordinary player account, not only an operator account. - Make a world backup before opening the server to a larger group.
Managed hosting versus running it yourself
Managed hosting reduces installation work, while self-hosting gives you direct control of files, configuration and hardware. The right choice depends on whether you value convenience or administration control.
| Decision area | Self-managed server | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Initial setup | Install Forge, extract the server pack, accept the EULA and configure the machine. | Usually a panel-based install after selecting the exact modpack project and version. |
| JVM and files | Full control over launch settings, configuration and backups. | Panel controls vary; verify console, file access and JVM controls before purchase. |
| Scaling | You choose CPU, RAM, storage and network capacity, then perform upgrades. | Plan upgrades may be simpler, but available sizes and prices depend on the provider. |
| Backups and recovery | You must arrange and test your own backup process. | Check whether scheduled backups, world restoration and downloadable backups are included. |
| Updates | You control when the client and server pack are changed. | One-click updates can be convenient, but confirm that the exact project release is supported. |
| Latency | Depends on your host machine and internet connection. | Choose a location near the players and check the provider’s network policy. |
| Cost | Hardware, electricity and connection costs are your responsibility. | Recurring monthly fee; advertised plans and resource limits require current verification. |
Example managed-host workflow
A documented panel workflow for a compatible provider is:
- Order a Minecraft server plan.
- Open the game panel.
- Choose Modpacks.
- Search for project ID 1386387.
- Click Install and wait for the panel to configure the server.
- Start the server, then compare its displayed pack, Minecraft and Forge versions with the client profile.
That provider advertises one-click installation, a 16 GB RAM “optimal performance” plan and plans starting at $16.99 per month. These are commercial-provider claims, not official Magic and Tweaks requirements; verify the current price, renewal terms, resource allocation, backup policy, location, cancellation rules and exact 1.2.5 support before paying.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Troubleshooting common setup problems
The client will not connect
- Compare Minecraft versions: both sides must be 1.20.1.
- Compare Forge versions and the Magic and Tweaks release, especially 1.2.5.
- Use the matching server ZIP rather than a client export.
- Remove extra client-only or server-only modifications until the base pack connects.
The quest or skills key does nothing
- Press I, L or K after the world has finished loading.
- Search the Controls menu for the relevant action and resolve a key conflict.
- Restart after changing bindings if the launcher imported an old configuration.
A base is not protected
- Open the map with M.
- Right-click the map and choose Claim.
- On a server, verify that the claim limit has not been reached and that the Open Parties and Claims configuration matches the community’s expectations.
- Check
world/serverconfig/openpartiesandclaims-server.tomlonly after stopping the server and making a backup.
Random teleport is unavailable
Type /trigger to list available trigger commands. If /trigger darkrtp is not offered, the server may have changed its trigger configuration or permissions. Ask the administrator rather than repeatedly entering a command that the server does not expose.

Version history helps explain why an existing installation may not match a new one. Release 1.2.4, dated May 19, 2026, enabled low-end video settings by default. Release 1.2.3, dated March 19, 2026, added Spice of Life: Carrot Edition and Crafting on a Stick. CurseForge now lists 1.2.5 as the latest release.
For a private world, back up before updating. For a dedicated server, update the server pack and every client as one change, test the world on a copy when possible, and retain the previous archive until players have confirmed that quests, claims and inventories behave normally.
Quick Recap
Is Magic and Tweaks right for your group?
- Choose it if you want a magic-first RPG with many spell systems, quest guidance, skills, dungeons and boss encounters.
- Expect a learning curve if you are unfamiliar with Forge packs or want to master several magic mods at once.
- Use claims early if more than one person will build in the same world.
- Plan hardware carefully if you expect several players to generate new terrain, run boss fights and keep automated systems active simultaneously.
- Prefer managed hosting if you want a panel installation and do not want to maintain Forge files and backups yourself.
- Prefer self-hosting if you need complete control over configuration, storage, recovery and update timing.
