Apple documented two specific fullscreen-related Mission Control issues in Beta 3 and later marked them fixed in its Release Candidate notes. A reported one-second Space-switch freeze is anecdotal, however, and the sources available do not establish it as a universal bug or confirm a Stage Manager-specific lag defect.
First, identify the symptom and your macOS build
“Mission Control is very laggy” can describe different problems: a Dock that stays onscreen, a fullscreen window that disappears, a pause while switching Spaces, or a missing transition animation. These symptoms do not all have the same documented cause or remedy.

- Record your macOS version and build. Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. Note the full version and build, not just “macOS 27.”
- Record your Mac model and display setup. Note whether you use an external display and whether the issue happens with one particular app or fullscreen window.
- Check for an update. Open System Settings > General > Software Update and install a compatible update if one is available. Apple says Software Update checks for compatible available software; an update may improve stability, performance, or compatibility, but Apple does not promise that it fixes every Space-switching pause.
Apple’s upgrade guidance recommends backing up before upgrading. Its compatibility guidance says Apple-silicon Macs can upgrade to macOS 27 and directs users to check the supported-model list. See Apple’s macOS compatibility guidance and instructions for updating macOS.

- APPS FLY WITH APPLE SILICON — All your favorites, including Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud, run lightning fast in macOS.*
- When using an app in fullscreen, the Dock might persist when entering or leaving Mission Control.
- A window might be lost when exiting fullscreen mode using Mission Control.
For the lost-window case, Apple’s Beta 3 workaround was: “Switch to the fullscreen window’s space first, then click the green button to exit fullscreen mode.” In practice, switch to the Space containing that fullscreen window, then use the green window button to leave fullscreen rather than exiting through Mission Control.
Release stage matters: Apple’s Golden Gate RC release notes list both of these issues as fixed. The notes therefore support applying that workaround to the affected beta scenario, not treating either issue as a confirmed defect in every later build. Check your full version and build before assuming the beta behavior applies to your Mac.

If switching Spaces freezes or the animation disappears
An Apple Community thread dated September 15, 2026, includes a report of Mission Control freezing for about one second during a Space switch, followed by an immediate switch without the usual animation. Other participants describe different behavior. This is a collection of user reports, not a controlled test: it does not establish how common the pause is, what causes it, which Mac models are affected, or whether it persists in a particular final build. The official notes cited above do not identify this exact animation symptom or provide a verified fix.

- The macOS version and build, Mac model, and display arrangement.
- Whether the delay occurs every time or only occasionally, and whether the animation is absent on each occurrence.
- Which app or Space is involved, and whether the behavior changes after quitting that app.
- A short screen recording, if you can capture the behavior without disrupting your work.
Use those details when sending feedback to Apple. Avoid assuming that a reset, a different pointing device, or a hardware purchase will solve this symptom: the reports cited here do not identify a cause or establish any of those as a remedy.
Check background apps as a general performance step
Apple notes that an app can continue running briefly after you quit it to finish tasks, retain sensor or screen-recording access, or handle other work—and that a background app may slow Mac performance. That makes background activity worth checking if the whole Mac feels sluggish, but it does not show that a background app is causing Mission Control or Spaces lag.

If an app appears to be continuing in the background, you can reopen it or Control-click its Dock icon and choose Stop Running in Background, when that option is available. Check whether the symptom changes rather than assuming the app was responsible. See Apple’s guidance on apps that continue running in the background.

The sources cited here do not establish a Stage Manager-specific lag defect or a confirmed Stage Manager remedy. If the slowdown happens while using Stage Manager, record that separately from Mission Control or a Space transition: the feature involved and the visible symptom matter when comparing reports. Do not treat the Beta 3 fullscreen notes as evidence of a Stage Manager bug.
