MLTechniques’ “Top 30 Machine Learning Influencers to Follow in 2023” is a historical LinkedIn-based list published on October 13, 2022—not a current ranking. Although its title promises 30 people, the article names 40: 12 with short profiles and 28 in a names-only section.

How the list was compiled

MLTechniques says the list was based on LinkedIn and selected people using four criteria: more than 50,000 followers, relevance and contributions to machine learning, relevant education and professional experience, and recent activity. It also says the names appear in alphabetical order and that the publisher retained discretion over inclusion. The list is therefore an editorial selection, not a scored ranking by influence.

Why the title says 30 but the article names 40

The discrepancy is in the article itself: it gives short biographical entries for 12 people, then lists 28 more names. The title’s “Top 30” count does not match those 40 names. The source does not explain the mismatch, so the list is best understood by its contents rather than its headline count.

A learning resource mentioned in the article

Andriy Burkov, one of the profiled names, is identified as the author of The Hundred-Page Machine Learning Book. The list makes this a relevant starting point for readers interested in a book associated with someone it features. The historical article does not establish current edition, stock, or seller availability.

How to use the list today

Use it as a snapshot of a publisher’s LinkedIn-focused selection made in 2022 for readers looking ahead to 2023. It is not evidence of who is most influential now, and its dated follower figures and descriptions should not be treated as current. Since the source gives no explicit geographic scope, it also should not be assumed to represent a particular country or region.
