The Acer Aspire Go 15 with an Intel Core i5-1334U, 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD is a budget candidate, but its display and build are compromises. The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3X is worth considering for its tested battery life and multi-core performance, while Dell 14 Plus and ASUS Vivobook models may fit different workload or configuration needs. None is a universal Windows equivalent to the MacBook Neo.
Which Windows laptop is the closest affordable alternative?
There is no single Windows counterpart with a fixed spec or price. Laptop families include different processors, memory, storage, displays and ports, and retail configurations vary by region. Decide first whether Windows compatibility is essential; then compare specific SKUs against the Neo for the applications and peripherals you actually use.

Acer Aspire Go 15: a value candidate
TechRadar identifies an Aspire Go 15 configuration with an Intel Core i5-1334U, 16GB RAM, a 256GB SSD and a 15.3-inch display. The publication presents the range as an affordable Windows option with a useful port selection, while noting a less impressive display and budget-level sturdiness. Check the exact processor, screen panel, memory, storage and ports on the listing before buying; the family name alone does not guarantee this configuration. TechRadar’s budget-laptop guide gives its assessment of the range.

The Slim 3X uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X platform. In Tom’s Guide’s tested comparison, it outscored the Neo in multi-core Geekbench 6 and lasted longer in the publication’s web-browsing test. Its measured sample had a weaker screen, and the Arm-based platform makes app and peripheral compatibility an important check. Confirm that the Windows software you rely on works as expected on this specific Snapdragon system.
#1 Best Overall
- 256 GB SSD of storage.
- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
Dell 14 Plus: a tested option for multi-core work and storage
Tom’s Guide’s tested Dell 14 Plus configuration scored higher than the Neo in multi-core Geekbench 6 and had faster measured storage. That does not establish the performance of every Dell 14 Plus SKU, or prove it is the better choice for every workload. Compare the exact processor and storage configuration, plus the current price, weight and display.
ASUS Vivobook: verify the precise model
Tom’s Hardware identifies the ASUS Vivobook Go 15 E1504FA-AS52 with a Ryzen 5 7520U. Vivobook names cover multiple builds, so check the regional SKU, screen, RAM, SSD and price rather than assuming another Vivobook Go 15 has the same components.

Other configurations and higher-priced alternatives
TechRadar Pro reported a March 2026 deal on an HP 15.6-inch FHD laptop with 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and an Intel i3-N305. Its processor is more modest than the stronger budget-class options discussed above, so weigh the larger FHD screen and memory/storage against the work you need it to do. Confirm the exact model and whether it is still sold.

What the comparison tests actually show
Tom’s Guide reported the following results for its tested configurations in 2026. Geekbench 6 scores are benchmark results, not guarantees for every laptop bearing the same model-family name.
| Tested laptop | Geekbench 6 single-core | Geekbench 6 multi-core | Web browsing at 150 nits over Wi-Fi |
|---|---|---|---|
| MacBook Neo | 3,535 | 8,920 | 13 hours 28 minutes |
| Dell 14 Plus | 2,721 | 10,890 | 13 hours 24 minutes |
| Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3X | 2,124 | 10,505 | 16 hours 29 minutes |
In this comparison, the Neo led on single-core results; the Dell and Lenovo scored higher in multi-core. The Slim 3X lasted longest in the specified browsing test. Those findings describe Tom’s Guide’s tested units and method, not all Neo, Dell or Lenovo configurations. Read the publication’s MacBook Neo versus Windows laptops comparison for its test context.

How to choose the right configuration
Use this checklist before treating a listing as a match:
- Price and eligibility: Compare the current local price and any education discount you qualify for. A reported sale is not a reliable quote for today’s price or stock.
- Windows compatibility: Check the applications and peripherals you need, especially with a Snapdragon X laptop. Confirm compatibility for your required software rather than assuming every Windows app behaves identically across processor platforms.
- Workload: Decide whether your work depends more on single-core responsiveness, multi-core processing or storage speed. One benchmark result cannot settle every use case.
- Memory and storage: Confirm RAM and SSD capacity on the exact SKU and whether either can be upgraded; do not infer this from a family name.
- Screen and portability: Compare display size, brightness and color alongside weight and chassis quality. A larger display may come with a less portable laptop.
- Battery and ports: Treat battery figures as results from a particular test, and check that the laptop has the ports your accessories require.
