macOS includes an ipconfig command, but it does not use Windows syntax: ipconfig /all is not the Mac command. To check an interface’s IPv4 address, identify the interface and run ipconfig getifaddr <interface>. To renew a DHCP lease, use the network service’s TCP/IP settings in System Settings.
How to find the right network interface
First map the Mac’s hardware ports to their device identifiers. In Terminal, run:

networksetup -listallhardwareportsFind the port in use, such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and note its device identifier. The identifier varies by Mac, so do not assume Wi-Fi is always en0. Apple documents the command and illustrates the port-to-device mapping in its network setup guidance.

Use ipconfig getifaddr followed by the identifier you found. For example, if the interface is en0:

ipconfig getifaddr en0The macOS command manual describes getifaddr as printing an IP address for the first network service associated with that interface. This is a focused IPv4 address lookup, not a full dump of every network setting. If the command prints nothing, the interface may have no configured or active service.
How to inspect DHCP information
For DHCP/BOOTP details, macOS ipconfig provides getoption and getpacket. Replace en0 below with the identifier for the interface you are checking:

ipconfig getoption en0 domain_name_server
ipconfig getpacket en0getoption requests a particular DHCP option, while getpacket displays available DHCP packet information. These are macOS subcommands, not equivalents of Windows switches such as /all. See the macOS ipconfig manual for the command’s documented options.

- Open Apple menu > System Settings > Network.
- Select the network service you want to renew, then click Details.
- Open TCP/IP and choose Renew DHCP Lease.
- Click OK.
The renewal control is available when the selected service uses DHCP. Renewal may help with some connection problems, but it is not a guaranteed fix for every network issue. Apple’s instructions are in Change TCP/IP settings on Mac and If your Mac isn’t connecting to the internet over Wi-Fi.
When to use networksetup instead

networksetup -listallnetworkservicesTo view a service’s information, Apple documents -getinfo. To configure a service to use DHCP, the documented form is:
sudo networksetup -setdhcp "Wi-Fi"Use the exact service name shown on your Mac; it may not be “Wi-Fi.” This command changes that service’s IPv4 configuration mode to DHCP. It is a configuration change, not a read-only status check, so use it only when the service is meant to obtain its IPv4 configuration through DHCP. For setting a service to DHCP or manual TCP/IP configuration, consult Apple’s network settings guidance and the networksetup manual.

Why Windows ipconfig instructions do not work on Mac
The commands share a name, but macOS and Windows expose different interfaces and syntax. On a Mac, use a documented subcommand such as getifaddr, getoption, or getpacket; do not append Windows options such as /all. Also, getifaddr checks an interface’s IPv4 address, while IPv6 settings are managed separately in Network settings and depend on the service.
