What the Lucky Block mod does
Lucky Block adds a breakable block whose result is selected at random. The original project documentation on CurseForge says that opening one block can produce one of more than 100 outcomes. Those outcomes include useful items, chests, hostile or passive creatures, structures, potions and enchantments, so a block can turn a safe mining trip into either a reward or an immediate survival problem.

Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

The block itself is crafted with eight gold ingots and a dispenser. Crafting the block or the lucky items with certain other items changes its luck value. A higher or lower luck value skews the probability toward more favorable or more dangerous results; it does not remove the random element.
CurseForge lists separate files for Forge, Fabric and NeoForge, and those files are not interchangeable. The project page showed a latest listed NeoForge file for Minecraft 1.21.8, updated December 26, 2025. That entry is a dated project listing, not a promise that every loader or every Minecraft release has a matching file. Always select the game version and loader you will actually launch.

Choose the correct loader and Minecraft version
Before downloading anything, decide which Minecraft Java Edition version your world or server will use. Then choose one loader profile for that version:
- Forge: use the Lucky Block file marked for Forge and the same Minecraft version.
- Fabric: use the Fabric file and launch a Fabric profile for that exact game version.
- NeoForge: use the NeoForge file and a NeoForge profile for the matching version.
A Forge jar in a Fabric profile, or a NeoForge jar in a Forge profile, will not work simply because the Minecraft numbers look similar. Release names in the maintainer’s repository encode the loader and minimum Minecraft version, which is useful when several downloads appear similar.

Use a clean profile for testing
If you already have a heavily modded installation, create or select a profile dedicated to Lucky Block first. Testing the base mod alone makes it easier to tell whether a failure comes from the loader, the game version, another mod or an add-on. Back up any existing world before changing its mod set.
Install Lucky Block on Java Edition
The maintainer’s documented sequence is deliberately short: install the loader, run Minecraft once, then put the mod jar in the mods folder. Follow these steps in order.

- Select the game version and loader. On the official Lucky Block project page, filter downloads to the Minecraft version you intend to play and select the corresponding Forge, Fabric or NeoForge file. Do not download a file for a newer or older game release on the assumption that it will load.
- Install the loader. Install Forge, Fabric or NeoForge for that same Minecraft version using the loader’s installer. The loader creates a launch profile that the Minecraft launcher can select.
- Launch the profile once. Start Minecraft with the new modded profile and allow it to reach the title screen, then close the game. This first run creates the expected directory structure and confirms that the loader itself can start before Lucky Block is introduced. The maintainer README summarizes this requirement as: “Download and install Forge or Fabric, then run Minecraft at least once.”
- Open the Minecraft game directory. Locate your Java Edition instance’s
.minecraftfolder. The exact parent path depends on your operating system and launcher, but the required child folder is namedmods. - Copy in the mod jar. Place the downloaded Lucky Block jar directly in
.minecraft/mods/. Do not leave it inside the download archive, and do not put it in an add-on folder. The maintainer’s installation instruction is: “Download the Lucky Block mod and put it into your .minecraft/mods/ folder.” - Launch the matching profile again. Select the same loader and Minecraft version used for the download. Let the game reach the title screen before adding other content. A successful launch indicates that the base mod and loader can coexist in that profile.
- Test in a new or copied world. Create a temporary creative world or use a backup copy of an existing world. Check that the Lucky Block can be obtained or crafted and that breaking it produces an outcome. Keep your original survival world untouched until the installation is stable.
Install Lucky Block add-ons
Add-ons are custom content, not substitutes for the base mod. Install the original Lucky Block first, launch it successfully once, and only then add extra content.
- Close Minecraft completely.
- Confirm that the base Lucky Block jar remains in
.minecraft/mods/and belongs to the loader and game version you are using. - Open or create the folder
.minecraft/addons/lucky/. - Place the compatible add-on files in that
addons/luckydirectory. The original project page directs users to this location for add-ons. - Restart the same modded profile and test the add-on in a disposable world before opening it in a long-running survival world.
Installing an add-on before the base mod has created its folders can make troubleshooting confusing. If an add-on causes a failure, remove only that add-on, launch the base installation, and then check the add-on’s stated Minecraft and loader compatibility before trying again.
Confirm that the installation is working
A title-screen launch is a useful first check, but a short in-game test catches placement and version mistakes.
- The launcher profile name identifies the loader you selected.
- The game’s loaded-mod list shows Lucky Block after startup.
- The block can be crafted with eight gold ingots and a dispenser, according to the original project recipe.
- Breaking a test block produces an outcome rather than behaving like an ordinary decorative block.
- The Lucky Sword, Lucky Bow and Lucky Potion are available in the item list or through the project’s documented recipes.
- An add-on’s content appears only after its files are in
.minecraft/addons/lucky/and the game has been restarted.
Random outcomes can include monsters, structures or other hazards. Test in a controlled area with spare equipment rather than beside an irreplaceable build.

Troubleshoot a failed launch or missing content
The game crashes immediately or returns to the launcher
Start with the four compatibility checks that account for most first-install failures:
- Compare the Minecraft version in the selected profile with the version printed in the Lucky Block file name or download entry.
- Compare the loader in the profile with the loader named by the mod file. Forge, Fabric and NeoForge require their respective files.
- Check the Java/runtime requirement displayed by the loader or launcher for that Minecraft release. A runtime mismatch can stop the loader before the mod is read.
- Temporarily remove other newly added mods and test Lucky Block by itself. A dependency conflict or incompatible companion mod can prevent startup even when Lucky Block is correct.
After each correction, launch the profile again before making another change. This one-variable approach identifies the cause faster than replacing every file at once.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The game starts but no Lucky Block appears
Verify that the jar is directly inside .minecraft/mods/, not in addons/lucky, a nested folder or a compressed archive. Confirm that you launched the modded profile rather than the unmodded installation. If the project’s items still do not appear, recheck that the download is for the same loader and Minecraft version shown in the profile.
An add-on is ignored
Check that the base mod has already launched once, that the add-on is in .minecraft/addons/lucky/, and that Minecraft was restarted after copying it. Remove the add-on and test the base mod alone. If the base works, the remaining issue is the add-on’s compatibility or file format rather than the loader installation.

A world behaves differently after changing mods
Do not experiment on the only copy of a valuable world. Restore the backup made before the change if blocks, entities or custom outcomes are missing. Keep a written list of the loader, Minecraft version, Lucky Block file and add-ons used for that world so the same combination can be reconstructed.

Set up a multiplayer Lucky Block server
Multiplayer compatibility depends on the exact Lucky Block project and version. For the original project, plan on a coordinated modded server: the server and each required client should use compatible Minecraft versions, loader versions and mod files. A player running a different loader or game version should not be expected to connect successfully.
Original project server workflow
- Prepare a separate server directory. Keep the server files and world away from your ordinary single-player instance so backups and updates are easier to manage.
- Install the matching server loader and Lucky Block files. Use the same Minecraft version and loader family chosen for the clients. Add any required companion mods and compatible Lucky Block add-ons to the server’s corresponding locations.
- Start the server task once. The maintainer’s README documents starting the server task as the first server run. The initial run creates the files needed for acceptance and configuration.
- Accept the EULA. Open
run/eula.txt, change the EULA setting as required by Mojang’s terms, and save the file. A server will not continue until this acceptance is recorded. - Edit
server.properties. Set the server name, access settings and address-related options appropriate for your group. Keep the configured address and port available to every person who will connect. - Restart the server. Stop it cleanly after editing the properties file, then start it again so the settings are read.
- Install the client profile for every player. Each player should use the same Minecraft version, loader family and required mod set as the server. Distribute instructions for the files rather than re-uploading the original mod jar.
- Connect using the configured address. Test with one client first. Once that connection succeeds, add the remaining players and watch the server log for version or missing-mod errors.
Back up the world before adding or removing Lucky Block files. Changes to custom blocks, entities, recipes or outcomes can make a world dependent on the installed set; a dated backup gives you a recovery point if a later update fails.
Why clients may need the mod
The original project is presented as a client-and-server mod. Treat that wording as a requirement to coordinate both sides unless the exact file’s documentation says otherwise. Installing the mod only on a server is not automatically sufficient for the original project, and installing it only on clients does not make an unmodded server compatible.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
When server-side-only play is possible
A separate Modrinth project named Lucky Blocks lists Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt support and explicitly states that it supports server-side-only play. Its description says players do not need the mod installed on their own computers to join servers using those lucky blocks. That statement applies to that Modrinth project and its supported versions; it should not be generalized to the original Lucky Block project or to every file with a similar name.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBefore inviting unmodded players, open the exact project page and verify three things: the project identity, the version you installed and the loader supported by that version. If any of those differ, assume normal client-and-server matching is required until the project documentation confirms otherwise.
Self-hosted server or managed hosting?
A small private group usually chooses between running the server on a computer it controls and paying a provider to run it. The important difference is not the Lucky Block recipe; it is who handles the machine, files, backups and availability.
| Decision point | Self-hosted server | Managed Minecraft hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Setup effort | You perform the server task, accept run/eula.txt, edit server.properties and handle restarts. |
The provider supplies the running service; you still upload or select the correct Minecraft, loader and mod files. |
| File and backup control | Direct control of the server directory, world copies and backup schedule. | Control depends on the provider’s file manager and backup tools; confirm that you can download a complete world backup. |
| Player count and performance | Limited by the host computer, available memory, network upload capacity and the number of simultaneous players. | Limited by the plan’s allocated resources and the provider’s policies; check supported mod loaders before subscribing. |
| Loader support | You choose and maintain the Forge, Fabric or NeoForge server installation. | The service must explicitly support the loader and Minecraft version required by your Lucky Block file. |
| Cost model | No hosting subscription, but you supply the computer, electricity, network connection and maintenance. | A recurring hosting charge in exchange for managed infrastructure and remote availability. |
For a group that plays only when one person is online and can manage files, self-hosting offers maximum control. Managed hosting is more convenient when the server should remain reachable without leaving a home computer running, but confirm mod-loader support, backup export and the provider’s current terms before committing.
Distribution, videos and modpacks
CurseForge’s project permissions allow use on public or private servers, YouTube videos, and distribution of custom maps or mini-games when the Lucky Block mod itself is not bundled with the map. The same permissions prohibit re-uploading the mod elsewhere. Modpacks containing Lucky Block may not be distributed on websites other than CurseForge.
- Link people to the canonical project page so they can obtain the original file.
- Share your own configuration, map or instructions without repackaging the mod jar.
- When publishing a modpack, follow the project’s stated distribution channel and permissions.
- Keep a copy of the exact file version used by a server so every player can reproduce the setup from the official source.
A practical pre-launch checklist
- Minecraft Java Edition version selected and recorded.
- Forge, Fabric or NeoForge selected deliberately rather than by guesswork.
- Lucky Block file matches both the loader and Minecraft version.
- Loader profile has reached the title screen once before the mod was added.
- Base jar is in
.minecraft/mods/. - Add-ons, if any, are in
.minecraft/addons/lucky/and were added after a successful base launch. - World backup created before testing add-ons or changing the server mod set.
- For multiplayer, server and clients use compatible versions and required files.
- For a server-side-only claim, the exact Modrinth project and version have been verified rather than inferred from the name.
- Players know the configured server address and have tested one connection before the full group joins.
Following that sequence keeps the important distinction clear: Lucky Block itself is the random-content mod, while the loader, game version, add-ons and multiplayer architecture determine whether the installation starts and who can connect.
