Lorex: FLIR Sold the Brand in 2018

FLIR acquired Lorex in 2012 and sold it in February 2018—before Teledyne acquired FLIR in 2021. Here’s what the ownership timeline establishes.

No. Lorex is no longer part of FLIR. FLIR acquired Lorex in 2012, then sold it in February 2018. Teledyne acquired FLIR in 2021, after that sale, so the later Teledyne FLIR business did not acquire Lorex through FLIR.

How Lorex and FLIR were connected

The relationship is best understood as a sequence of ownership changes, not as a current affiliation:

Who owns Lorex now?

The 2026 Texas Attorney General filing states that Dahua sold Lorex to Taiwan-based Skywatch Inc. in November 2022. Lorex’s current store and company pages describe its products and business, but do not independently confirm the present parent company. For that reason, the filing is the basis for the later ownership detail here, rather than a claim that Lorex itself currently publishes a parent-company statement.

Why FLIR sold Lorex

FLIR described the sale as a way to focus its security business on critical-infrastructure and enterprise customers. CEO Jim Cannon said the divestiture would focus the business on “critical infrastructure and enterprise segments of the broader security market,” which FLIR considered attractive for its differentiating technologies. FLIR reported that the businesses sold generated $140 million in revenue in 2017; that was a company-reported figure for the divested businesses, not a measure of Lorex’s current revenue.

Is Lorex the same company as FLIR?

No. FLIR owned Lorex from the 2012 acquisition until the 2018 sale. Teledyne’s later acquisition of FLIR did not reverse that sale or make Lorex part of Teledyne FLIR. Today, Lorex sells its own security cameras, recorders, systems, and accessories through its U.S. store. Lorex U.S. store

What the ownership history means for Lorex products

Ownership history alone does not establish whether a particular camera, recorder, or app works with another product. Lorex’s U.S. storefront currently describes three app experiences—Lorex Connect, Lorex Classic, and Lorex Pro—and offers wired and wireless cameras, complete systems, recorders, and accessories. These details can change. Check the compatibility information for the exact model, app, and system you own or plan to buy, especially when mixing generations or wired, Wi-Fi, and battery-powered equipment.
