It uses low-profile mechanical switches rather than the MX Keys’ scissor switches, however. Keychron K3 is worth considering if you want selectable RGB lighting, while its RGB should not be mistaken for automatic ambient adjustment.
What the MX Keys does—and what to match
The standard Logitech MX Keys is a wireless, backlit keyboard with scissor switches. Logitech lists Bluetooth Low Energy and a Logitech Unifying USB receiver among its connection options. The MX Keys for Business data sheet describes a full-size layout with a numpad and arrow keys, hand-proximity sensors that switch on the backlight, ambient-light sensors that adjust brightness, and switching among up to three paired computers. That sheet is dated October 7, 2021; its details should not automatically be applied to every consumer MX Keys version. “Adjustable backlighting” can mean several things. A keyboard may let you choose brightness levels or RGB effects without sensing the room. The MX Keys’ distinctive behavior is automatic: the backlight activates when hands approach, and ambient light affects brightness. If you want that specific behavior, check for both proximity activation and ambient adjustment—not merely the word “RGB.”

Logitech MX Mechanical: closest match for automatic lighting
Logitech says MX Mechanical’s backlit keys activate as your hands approach and adjust automatically to lighting conditions. The product page also describes selectable backlighting effects in Logi Options+ and switching among up to three devices. Its low-profile mechanical design is the key trade-off: it is not a scissor-key MX Keys replacement, and the available switch options change the typing feel. Choose among Tactile Quiet, Clicky, and Linear based on the switch characteristics you prefer; the cited product information does not establish that any feels identical to MX Keys. Keychron K3: choose RGB rather than sensor behavior
RTINGS describes the K3 as a low-profile wireless mechanical keyboard with full RGB lighting. That gives you color and lighting options, but the cited comparison does not establish MX Keys-style hand-proximity activation or automatic brightness adjustment based on ambient light. Treat RGB flexibility and sensor-driven lighting as separate features when deciding whether it fits your needs. RTINGS comparison of MX Mechanical and Keychron K3

Keychron K12: compact 60% option, with a variant check
Keychron’s indexed listing describes the K12 as a compact 60% wireless mechanical keyboard with RGB backlight options and two-level adjustable feet. A 60% layout is substantially more compact than a full-size keyboard with a numpad, so check that the layout suits your daily shortcuts and number-entry needs. The listing page could not be directly confirmed for this comparison; verify the current K12 variant, layout, and availability on Keychron’s product page before purchasing. Apple Magic Keyboard: a Mac-first alternative without backlighting
The cited RTINGS comparison says the Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad lacks backlighting and three-device pairing. It may suit a Mac-focused setup where Touch ID matters more than illuminated keys, but it does not meet a requirement to keep the keys lit. RTINGS comparison of Apple Magic Keyboard and MX Keys

Choose by the feature you need to keep

- Need a very compact layout? Consider K12 only after checking the exact current variant and whether a 60% board has the keys you need.

Battery expectations: lighting changes the picture
Logitech Support says MX Keys lasts five months with backlighting off. Its manufacturer examples for backlit use vary by room brightness and selected brightness: 146 hours at Level 4 in 100–200 lux, and 242 hours at Level 2 below 100 lux. These are Logitech’s configuration-specific examples, not independent test results or a general runtime promise for other keyboards.
