The strongest approach is to choose a platform your audience can access, plan and test the event, assign a moderator, and measure results against a clear goal. Then follow up with viewers and make useful recordings or highlights available when rights and platform rules allow.
What businesses can gain from live streaming
Live video gives a business a format for demonstrations, launches, expert discussions, customer questions, and other events where direct interaction matters. YouTube describes live streaming as a way to interact through video and chat (YouTube live streaming tips). LinkedIn recommends prompting viewers with questions and responding during and after events (Getting Started with Live Events).

- Real-time conversation: A host can address questions as they arise and learn what viewers want clarified.
- Event promotion and registration: LinkedIn event pages can provide a place for promotion, registration, and speaker information.
- Different production formats: YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming, so a business can choose between a quick update and a more produced event.
- Content to reuse: A recording may yield useful highlights or posts if the platform permits downloading and the business has the necessary rights and permissions.
- Follow-up opportunities: Resources and answers after the event can continue the conversation with attendees.
These are format capabilities and practical workflows, not proof that live video reliably outperforms regular video or produces revenue. The official platform materials cited here do not establish a universal sales, lead, or return-on-investment benchmark.

Choose the platform around audience and workflow
| Decision | YouTube Live | LinkedIn Live |
|---|---|---|
| Audience and discovery | Supports horizontal and vertical viewing; under the documented setup, vertical streams can be discoverable in the Shorts feed. Features can differ by viewing format. | Event pages support promotion, registration, and speaker information in a professional-network context. |
| Access | The channel must be verified and have no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. Mobile streaming may have additional requirements. | Streaming is limited to qualified Pages and creators. Confirm eligibility before promoting the event. |
| Production path | Mobile suits quick updates, webcam suits a simple computer setup, and an encoder offers more control over production. | Connect a third-party broadcast tool to the event workflow; LinkedIn identifies tools such as Zoom or Webex as possible connections. |
| Interaction and moderation | Features vary by stream format. Plan for someone to watch the stream and technical quality. | Monitor comments separately and assign a moderator to handle viewer interaction. |
| Analytics and follow-up | Live-stream data is available in YouTube Analytics’ Engagement tab. | LinkedIn recommends sharing resources and following up with attendees; analytics depend on the event setup. |

Choose based on where the intended audience is, what access requirements apply, the production format, the moderation capacity available, and how you will follow up. LinkedIn’s Live Events Playbook includes engagement comparisons, but its accessible text does not identify the measurement year or methodology; those comparisons are not a sound forecast for a particular business event (Live Events Playbook).
Plan the event before going live
- Set one main objective. Decide whether the event is for a product explanation, customer questions, a launch, an expert discussion, or another specific purpose. Define what a useful result would look like before choosing metrics.
- Confirm platform access. Check current account or Page eligibility and any restrictions. Match the format to the event: phone, webcam, or encoder on YouTube; an eligible LinkedIn event and connected broadcast tool for LinkedIn.
- Schedule and promote in advance. Create the event page or schedule the stream early, and tell the audience when and how to join. LinkedIn’s event guidance recommends planning ahead and inviting attendees.
- Write a run of show. List the welcome, speakers, demonstrations, question time, transitions, and close. Leave room to respond to useful audience questions instead of filling every minute with prepared remarks.
- Assign roles. Name a host, a moderator, and, for a more involved production, a technical operator. LinkedIn recommends separating broadcast-tool operation from comment moderation.
- Rehearse the full path. For an encoder-based YouTube event, set up early, start the encoder before the event, preview the stream before going live, check access from the channel or watch page and on mobile devices, and monitor quality. A private or unlisted rehearsal can help a new team practice.
- Prepare a fallback. Confirm whether a local recording is being made and growing correctly. If the production uses a backup encoder, test the failover rather than assuming it will work.
YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary to start; an encoder production can add control and support equipment such as microphones, preamps, and cameras. Invest where it solves a real problem, particularly unclear audio or an unstable picture. Platform guidance does not establish model-by-model equipment comparisons (YouTube live streaming tips).

Run a clear, moderated broadcast
- Open with the topic, speaker introductions, and a short explanation of how viewers can participate.
- Ask focused questions, acknowledge relevant comments, and reserve explicit time for audience answers.
- Have the moderator monitor comments on a separate device or browser. LinkedIn says moderators can delete or report comments and block viewers, and recommends a dedicated moderator (LinkedIn Live video broadcasting FAQ).
- During an encoder-based YouTube stream, keep watching sound and picture rather than assuming a successful start means the stream remains healthy.
- Keep the material professional and appropriate to the platform. LinkedIn says its Live content is public and cautions against disguising prerecorded material as live (Guidelines for LinkedIn Live Streaming Content).
If prerecorded material is necessary, be transparent about it and check current platform policy first. LinkedIn’s event playbook suggests live introductory and closing segments for some compliance-related prerecorded use, while LinkedIn Help says streams should be real time. Do not treat the playbook suggestion as permission to bypass the current rules.
Follow up and measure what mattered
After the event, thank viewers, answer questions that went unanswered, and share relevant resources. LinkedIn recommends following up with registered attendees where appropriate. If a recording can be downloaded and reused, select highlights for shorter posts or platform-appropriate clips only after checking rights, privacy, and permissions.

Review the signals that fit the event’s objective: whether the intended audience attended, whether viewers asked relevant questions, and whether the agreed follow-up occurred. YouTube directs creators to its Engagement tab for live-stream data (View live stream data). Treat views and interactions as indicators of audience response, not automatic evidence of business impact. The cited guidance does not establish a general sales or ROI figure.
