Linux Foundation Training & Certification’s Tux Rewards program gives eligible customers one point per dollar spent and a 50% coupon when they reach 500 points. The current program page also sets a 500-point daily earning cap, limits which purchases earn points, and requires account activity to keep membership active. Its current rules differ from some terms in the 2021 launch announcement, so the present-day FAQ is the better guide to how the program works now.

How Tux Rewards works now

According to the current Tux Rewards page, customers earn one point per dollar spent, up to 500 points per day. Enrollment is automatic after $500 in qualifying spend. Points may take up to 72 hours to appear in an account.

Not every transaction qualifies. Refunded orders do not count, and purchases made by invoice or with a redemption code do not earn points. Points belong to the account that earned them: they cannot be pooled with another account or transferred.

What 500 points get you

At 500 points, a member can claim a coupon for 50% off one eligible course, certification exam, bundle, or IT Professional Program. The current FAQ excludes FinOps Certified Practitioner and THRIVE subscriptions, including bundles that contain THRIVE.

The reward is a coupon, not a cash balance or a discount that automatically applies to every purchase. Members claim it through the Purchases and Coupons area of their profile, then enter the coupon code at checkout. Points cannot be combined across accounts, but the FAQ says a generated coupon may be shared.

Keeping points and using the coupon

The current FAQ says a member needs to make at least one purchase of any amount each year to remain enrolled. It also says the 500 points and resulting coupon expire if the coupon is not generated and redeemed within one year of the last purchase. Check the account and the current FAQ before relying on a reward, particularly if a purchase or redemption is close to an expiration date.

How the current rules differ from the 2021 launch terms

Linux Foundation Training & Certification announced Tux Rewards on October 12, 2021; its announcement page displays an August 31, 2023 update date. At launch, the organization said customers could earn one point per dollar and qualify for enrollment after accumulating 500 points within two years. It described a 500-point cap per transaction and a 50% voucher after reaching the threshold. The post also described monthly promotions and early access to select launches for customers with a purchase in the preceding three years, as well as up to 500 retroactive points for qualifying purchases from the prior two years.

The currently linked program page and FAQ instead state a 500-point daily cap, annual purchase activity to remain enrolled, and a one-year period for generating and redeeming the coupon. The current page does not confirm the launch-era retroactive credit, promotions, or early-access terms as continuing benefits. Treat those details as historical rather than current promises; the current page does not show a revision date.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
