The exact experience depends on your TV’s model, software generation, and country, so use your model information—not a generic webOS guide—when checking app support or following setup instructions.
What is webOS on an LG TV?
webOS is LG’s operating system for its smart TVs. From the Home interface, you can open streaming apps, switch to live television or an external input, adjust settings, and access supported voice and connected-device features. Recommendations and the layout can also vary by model and software version. LG’s webOS overview describes features available on its platform, but not every feature is available on every TV or in every country.

How do I install apps on an LG smart TV?
- Press Home on the remote.
- Open Apps.
- Search for the app you want and select it.
- Choose Install.
The app catalog is not universal. Check the LG Content Store for your region and exact TV model before relying on a particular app; availability can differ by both. LG’s app installation guidance provides the general steps.
How do I find my LG TV model and webOS version?
Menu names and locations differ across generations, and LG notes they can also vary by region and language. On TVs from 2023 onward, LG lists Support > TV Information as an example path. For 2020–2022 models, the relevant information may appear under different General, Devices, or Support menus. Use LG’s model and software information instructions for your TV generation rather than assuming one path applies to all sets.

Can I change which screen opens when my TV starts?
LG supports startup behavior that can open the Home screen or return to the most recent external input, but the setting path depends on the TV generation. LG publishes distinct instructions for 2018-and-earlier, 2019, 2020, 2021–2022, 2023–2025, and 2026-and-later TVs. Options such as Quick Start+ or the older Q Start+ name may also differ by generation. Follow the instructions for your specific model in LG’s startup screen support guide.
Do LG TVs receive webOS updates?
LG says its webOS Re:New program provides software updates and version upgrades for five years after purchase on eligible models. That duration is LG’s stated program policy, not a guarantee that every LG TV qualifies or receives every feature. Eligibility, rollout timing, and included features can differ. Check the support information for your model and country for applicable terms. See LG’s webOS Re:New announcement.
What can the LG ThinQ app and Home Hub do?
LG’s ThinQ app can provide phone-based TV control and launch supported webOS experiences. LG’s TV Home Hub can also manage compatible smart-home devices from the TV. Setup and compatibility depend on the device and TV model; LG’s regional setup guidance describes using the ThinQ app and Wi-Fi during initial setup. Check the requirements for your region and connected devices in LG’s ThinQ app and TV connection guide.
Which accessibility and AI features are available?
LG’s US webOS information describes accessibility menus and an AI chatbot, but availability is not identical worldwide. LG says some AI functions are offered only in countries that support natural language processing in the relevant native language. Check the accessibility menu on your TV and LG’s local product information for features available to your model. See LG’s US webOS feature overview.
Does LG webOS support cloud gaming?
LG’s August 20, 2025 press release said its Gaming Portal was available in more than 30 countries, with games accessed using a remote or gamepad. It named cloud gaming services including Amazon Luna, Blacknut, Boosteroid, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Availability depends on country, webOS version, model, and service, so check the Gaming Portal on your TV and the current local service listing before subscribing or buying accessories.
In that release, LG attributed a catalog figure of more than 4,000 cloud-based titles and 600 free single- and multiplayer games to Chris Jo, head of the webOS Platform Business Center at LG’s Media Entertainment Solution Company. This is an LG-reported catalog figure, not an independent audit or a promise that all titles are accessible in every region or on every model. LG also noted that US users can purchase a compatible Magic Remote through ShopTime for games designed for remote control. Verify remote compatibility with your TV; controller and game support vary. Details are in LG’s August 20, 2025 Gaming Portal announcement.
