If you watch through a set-top box, switch to the input it uses instead: the TV’s antenna scan does not tune the box’s channels. A completed scan also cannot guarantee reception of every local station.
1. Check the signal path and antenna connection
First identify how you receive live TV. With a direct antenna connection, make sure the antenna cable is firmly attached to the TV’s antenna input. LG recommends checking the cable when some channels are missing; a loose connection can interfere with tuning. LG’s missing-channel guidance also lists channel deletion, frequency changes, and broadcaster reorganization as possible reasons a channel may disappear.

If the antenna cable runs to a set-top box, select the TV input connected to that box and use the box’s channel controls. The TV’s Auto Tuning scan applies to its own tuner, not channels received through an external box. LG’s Auto Tuning instructions distinguish these two setups.
2. Adjust the antenna before changing hardware
Reception can vary with antenna direction and placement. Keep the antenna connected, then try a small change in direction or position. LG recommends positioning the antenna where it can receive a signal; its regional support guidance suggests trying a location nearer a window, but that is not a guaranteed fix for every room or station. After moving the antenna, rescan so the TV can check reception in the new position. Replacing an antenna is not the first step: first confirm the existing cable and connection are sound and test whether repositioning helps. A scan cannot establish that a particular station is receivable at your location.
3. Run Auto Tuning again, then check reception
LG menu labels vary by TV model and webOS version. On newer sets, the route is commonly Settings → All Settings → General → Channels → Channel Tuning → Auto Tuning → Start. Some older versions go from All Settings directly to Channels. Choose the path that matches your TV, start the scan, and allow it to finish. LG’s support pages describe the version-dependent routes and recommend rescanning after checking the antenna connection. See LG’s Auto Tuning menu guidance.

If expected channels are still absent, use Manual Tuning to inspect signal strength or quality if your model offers those readings. LG documents a Manual Tuning signal-check path, but it does not establish that every model has the same meter or menu. LG’s signal-check instructions show a model-dependent example. If the antenna connection and placement appear sound and channels remain missing, contact LG support for model-specific guidance.

Auto Tuning searches for channels the TV can receive during the scan; it does not prove that every expected station is available at that location. Missing channels may reflect weak or changing reception, an incomplete setup, or a broadcaster’s frequency or lineup changes. The right troubleshooting branch depends on whether you use the TV’s tuner or a set-top box, the condition and placement of the cable and antenna, the signal readings available on your set, and the TV’s model and software generation.
