The Motorola Edge 70 Pro is the newer and more capable-on-paper phone, but it is not a direct contemporary rival to the LG G2: LG introduced the G2 in 2013, while Motorola announced the Edge 70 Pro in 2026. The newer model has a much larger display and battery, a more recent processor platform, more listed memory and Android 16 in Motorola’s UK specifications. The title’s “LG Optimus G2” refers to the phone LG officially called the LG G2. Exact specifications, network bands and prices depend on the market and variant.
LG G2 vs Motorola Edge 70 Pro: specifications at a glance
This is a comparison across 13 years of phone development, not a contest between devices released at the same time. LG’s figures below are from its 2013 global launch announcement; Motorola’s Edge 70 Pro figures are from its UK support page and 2026 announcements. Motorola configurations and availability vary by region.

What the screen and size differences mean
The LG G2’s 5.2-inch IPS screen is substantially smaller than the Edge 70 Pro’s 6.8-inch AMOLED display. Motorola’s UK page gives the newer phone a 2772 × 1272 resolution, while LG listed 1920 × 1080 and 423 ppi for the G2. The Edge’s larger panel may be preferable for video or viewing more content at once; the G2’s smaller dimensions make it the more compact of the two on the published figures. These are practical implications of screen size, not results from a handling test.

- Camera: 13-MP
- Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
- OS: Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean)
Performance, software and memory
The G2 launched with a 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 and 2GB of RAM. Motorola lists a Dimensity 8500 Extreme and 8GB or 12GB of RAM for the Edge 70 Pro UK configuration. Those specifications show the generation gap, but they do not establish a benchmark score or a measured performance ratio; no comparable benchmark results are available here.
LG specified Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 at the G2’s launch. Motorola lists Android 16 for the Edge 70 Pro in the UK. The launch-era LG specification does not establish the phone’s current software or security-update status, so buyers should not assume that it receives current updates.
Battery capacity and camera specifications
LG listed a 3000mAh battery for the G2; Motorola lists a 6500mAh typical-capacity silicon-carbon battery for the Edge 70 Pro UK version. Capacity is not the same as real-world battery life: it does not account for differences in screen size, hardware, software, settings or usage. The cited specifications do not provide a comparable runtime test.

- Camera: 13-MP
- Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
- OS: Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean)
- Display: 5.2-inches
LG’s launch announcement specifies a 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilization. Motorola’s announcement promotes a four-camera system with 50MP cameras, but regional camera configurations should be checked against the exact model. Megapixel counts alone do not show which phone takes better photos, and no direct camera test is established here.
Does the LG G2 support 5G?
No: the LG G2 is an LTE-era phone, and its available network support depends on the carrier-specific model. Motorola lists 5G bands for the Edge 70 Pro, but band support varies by region. Before buying either phone, match the precise model number and supported frequency bands to the intended carrier and country; a general product name is not enough to establish compatibility. Motorola documents its UK bands on the regional support page, while LG’s archived carrier sheets illustrate the G2’s model-specific variants: D801 specifications and VS980 specifications.

Motorola’s Mexico announcement gives a launch price of MX$18,999 for the Edge 70 Pro in Mexico. That is a regional launch figure, not a worldwide price or a guarantee of the phone’s current street price. The cited official LG sources do not give a comparable current price for the G2, so a reliable numeric price difference cannot be calculated from these figures.
Rank #3
- WILL NOT work with CDMA carriers like Verizon, Sprint etc.
For a meaningful current comparison, check listings in the same country and on the same date, and compare the same kind of transaction: new, used or refurbished; matching storage where applicable; and unlocked versus carrier-linked. A legacy phone’s condition and variant can materially affect a listing’s value.
Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Edge 70 Pro if
- You want a much larger display, newer listed hardware and Android 16 in the UK specification.
- You need 5G, after confirming the regional variant supports your carrier’s bands.
- You are comparing current phones and can verify local availability, configuration and price.
Consider the LG G2 if
- You specifically need this older model rather than a current-generation smartphone.
- You are evaluating a particular carrier variant and have confirmed its network compatibility and condition.
- You understand that its launch specification is from 2013 and does not establish current software support.
For most buyers comparing the published specifications, the Edge 70 Pro is the more modern device. That conclusion is based on its generation and listed features, not hands-on testing; price and network fit still depend on the exact market and model.
