LF Decentralized Trust (LFDT) has three organizational membership tiers: Premier, General and Associate. Premier dues are listed at $250,000 a year for organizations that already belong to the Linux Foundation, or $270,000 including Linux Foundation membership. General dues range from $5,000 to $50,000 a year LFDT-only, or $10,000 to $70,000 combined, based on employee headcount. Pre-approved qualifying Associate entities are listed at $0. Current Linux Foundation membership is required for Premier and General applicants; Associate eligibility must be confirmed with LFDT.
How much does LF Decentralized Trust membership cost?
The following amounts are published on LFDT’s active Join LF Decentralized Trust fee table, accessed in 2026. Fees can change, so verify the live page before applying. “LFDT-only” assumes the organization already has Linux Foundation membership; the combined column includes Linux Foundation dues. For General membership, the combined calculation uses consolidated employee headcount.
| Tier | LFDT-only annual dues | Combined annual dues | Eligibility notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premier | $250,000 | $270,000 | Current corporate Linux Foundation membership is required for the LFDT-only route. |
| General | $5,000 for fewer than 50 employees; up to $50,000 for 5,000 or more | $10,000 to $70,000, using the same headcount bands | Current corporate Linux Foundation membership is required. |
| Associate | $0 for pre-approved qualifying entities | $0 | The join page describes pre-approved nonprofits, open-source projects and government entities; the charter also addresses Linux Foundation Associate Members and permits additional criteria. |
The published prices are dues, not a guarantee of commercial return. LFDT’s materials do not provide an independent membership-ROI statistic.
Who can join each tier?
Premier and General
These tiers are organizational memberships and require current corporate membership in the Linux Foundation. If your company is not already a Linux Foundation member, use the combined price when budgeting. Confirm the applicable corporate and headcount rules with LFDT before signing.

Associate
LFDT’s join page lists pre-approved nonprofits, open-source projects and government entities at no cost. The LFDT Charter says Linux Foundation Associate Members are eligible and allows additional criteria. Because approval and qualification are not fully defined by the fee table, ask LFDT to confirm eligibility.
What benefits come with membership?
Benefits vary by tier. The official LF Decentralized Trust Membership overview and join page describe the main differences below.
| Benefit area | Premier | General | Associate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Governance representation | Dedicated representative on the Governing Board | Representative elected by General members | No board representation listed |
| Member-success planning | Included | Included | Not listed |
| Member-only meetings and webinars | Included | Included | More limited benefits; check the current table |
| Branding and communications | Highest level of listed visibility and communications opportunities | Tier-specific branding and communications opportunities | More limited benefits; check the current table |
| Events and speaking opportunities | Included opportunities, subject to LFDT processes | Included opportunities, subject to LFDT processes | Not all opportunities are listed as available |
| Member-network access | Included | Included | Not listed at the same level |
| Training discounts and vouchers | Listed | Listed | No training benefit listed |
Premier is therefore the tier for organizations seeking the strongest formal governance presence and the broadest set of listed engagement benefits. General provides participation and an elected governance route at substantially lower dues, while Associate is designed for qualifying entities that need a lower-cost affiliation without listed board representation.
Rank #2
Premier versus General membership
Choose Premier when governance influence is the priority
Premier members receive a dedicated Governing Board representative rather than relying on an election among General members. The tier also carries the highest dues and the broadest listed visibility, planning and training benefits. It is aimed at organizations prepared to make a major financial and strategic commitment to LFDT.

General dues scale with consolidated employee count. General members elect their representative, and the tier includes listed member meetings, communications and training benefits. For a smaller organization that already belongs to the Linux Foundation, the published LFDT-only price starts at $5,000 annually for fewer than 50 employees.
Compare total cost, not just the LFDT line
An organization without existing Linux Foundation membership should compare the combined figures. For example, the published General range is $10,000 to $70,000 combined, not $5,000 to $50,000, because the additional Linux Foundation membership is included.
Can you contribute to Hyperledger projects without becoming a member?
Yes. Membership and project participation are separate. LFDT’s contribution guidance points people toward community calls, workshops, tutorials and meetups. Its membership materials also describe project-formation support as available to non-members, while reserving some governance and member-network benefits for members.
Start with the contribution routes that match your role:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Developers: attend project calls, review documentation and contribute code through the project’s published workflows.
- Users and architects: join discussions, tutorials and workshops, then share implementation feedback.
- Organizations exploring a new project: use LFDT’s project-formation resources before deciding whether organizational membership is justified.
- Community participants: attend meetups and other events described on LFDT’s Why get involved? page.
Joining a project community does not automatically provide a board seat, member-only networking or membership training discounts.
Which projects are part of LF Decentralized Trust?
LFDT spans multiple decentralized-technology projects rather than one single blockchain product. Its project directory includes:
- Hyperledger Besu: an Ethereum client used in enterprise and public-network contexts.
- Hyperledger Fabric: a permissioned distributed-ledger platform.
- Hyperledger Cacti: interoperability infrastructure for connecting blockchain networks.
- Hyperledger FireFly: tooling for building enterprise blockchain applications.
Membership provides an organizational relationship with LFDT; it does not itself include implementation services, deployment work or guaranteed engineering support for any project.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What does membership mean for governance and visibility?
Governance is the clearest practical distinction between tiers. Premier has a dedicated Governing Board representative. General members use an election mechanism for their representative. Associate membership has no board representation listed in the current benefits material.
LFDT also lists member-success planning, member-only meetings, webinars, communications, event opportunities and network access. These are opportunities rather than guaranteed speaking slots, leads or revenue. LFDT’s membership page includes positive statements from members such as Hashgraph, ConsenSys and TCS, but those testimonials are member opinions, not independently measured outcomes.
How to decide whether membership is worthwhile
- Confirm eligibility. Verify corporate Linux Foundation status for Premier or General, or obtain written confirmation that your nonprofit, project or government entity qualifies as an Associate.
- Calculate the correct dues. Use the LFDT-only column only when Linux Foundation membership is already current. For General, apply consolidated employee headcount.
- Define the outcome you need. Separate a desired board role, member-network access or training discount from ordinary project contribution.
- Try open participation first when appropriate. Community calls, workshops, tutorials and meetups can show whether a project fits before committing to organizational dues.
- Review the current benefits table. Event, training and communications offerings can change; confirm the exact inclusions in the join materials before approval.
What has changed recently?
On September 24, 2026, LFDT announced 15 new members, including Swift and Wells Fargo, in its membership announcement. That announcement demonstrates recent membership activity, but it does not establish LFDT’s total membership count or confirm the current tier of every named organization.
Training and certification considerations
Premier and General benefits list training discounts and vouchers; Associate benefits do not list a training allowance. LFDT’s home page links to Linux Foundation training and certification resources, including offerings related to Besu and Hyperledger Fabric. Check current eligibility, pricing and voucher terms directly with the Linux Foundation because these offerings and discounts may change.
