These are three different kinds of tools, not interchangeable legal research databases. Lexis+ with Protégé and Westlaw’s AI offerings add AI workflows to legal research platforms and their legal content. Bluehost Privacy+ is presented as a privacy-oriented workspace for using multiple general AI models; Bluehost says it does not include proprietary legal research databases. The right choice depends on whether a firm needs authority-backed legal research, AI-assisted work across legal tasks, or both.

Lexis+ with Protégé: AI within LexisNexis legal research
LexisNexis renamed Lexis+ AI to Lexis+ with Protégé in February 2026. The company describes it as a legal AI solution for drafting, research, and analysis, combining its research platform with generative and agentic AI capabilities. Its product pages describe legal-content grounding and workflows that include conversational search, drafting, and document-grounded answers.
The wider Lexis+ platform is described by LexisNexis as including legal content, Practical Guidance, document analysis, litigation analytics, and Shepard’s citation services. LexisNexis says Shepard’s Verify and Citation Service checks citations for validation, status, and treatment. These are vendor statements; they should not be read as an independent finding about accuracy or as a substitute for reviewing cited authorities.
#1 Best Overall
LexisNexis says price depends on organizational size, selected content and tools, number of users, practice areas, and jurisdictions. Its page directs small firms to explore packages and larger organizations to request a tailored quote, so there is no supported standard price to compare here. See Lexis+ with Protégé and Lexis+.
Westlaw AI: two current named offerings
Thomson Reuters’ current Westlaw page presents Westlaw Edge with AI-Assisted Research and Westlaw Advantage. Edge is described as offering natural-language research answers, AI Jurisdictional Surveys, AI-enhanced Quick Check, and WestSearch Plus.
Rank #2
Westlaw Advantage
Thomson Reuters positions Advantage as an advanced AI offering. It adds Deep Research, Claims Explorer, and Litigation Document Analyzer, and includes the functionality of Westlaw Edge with AI-Assisted Research. The company characterizes Advantage as combining agentic AI with Westlaw content. The page offers pricing views and a free-trial request, but the reviewed material does not establish a universal subscription price.

When evaluating Westlaw, ask how the offered package handles the jurisdictions and content your matters require, how research answers connect to primary authority, and what citation and document-analysis workflows are included. Product details are on the official Westlaw page.
Rank #3
Bluehost Privacy+: a general AI workspace with privacy features
Bluehost calls its legal offer AI All-Access Pack Privacy+ for Legal Firms. The company lists prompt sanitization for sensitive legal details, encrypted conversations, private access, and a dashboard with multiple AI models. Its examples include summarizing records, drafting case chronologies, assisting with intake and document review, and drafting client communications. Bluehost lists the service at $25 per user per month, billed monthly on its legal page accessed in 2026; check the current page for the offer in effect when you buy.
Bluehost’s own comparison says Privacy+ does not provide proprietary legal research databases and positions it as complementary to research-focused platforms. That distinction matters: a multi-model AI workspace may assist with general drafting or document tasks, but it is not a replacement for a legal research service when a matter requires searching legal authorities and validating citations.
Bluehost’s security and privacy descriptions are vendor claims, not independent security certification or proof of privilege protection, regulatory compliance, or suitability for every client matter. Before entering confidential information, review current contract terms and technical documentation, including retention, encryption, prompt handling, access controls, available models, and administrator settings. See Bluehost’s legal product page and its comparison page.
How to choose for a law firm
Start with the work the tool must do
- Choose a research platform when the central requirement is searching jurisdiction-specific legal content, connecting answers to authorities, checking citations, or working within legal research and guidance workflows. Compare Lexis+ with Protégé and the Westlaw package being offered.
- Consider a general AI workspace when the firm wants a multi-model assistant for tasks such as summaries, chronologies, intake support, or draft communications, and has separately addressed legal research and source verification.
- Consider a combination only if needed: a firm may use a research platform for authority-backed work and a separate AI workspace for other tasks. That adds cost and another vendor relationship, so assess access control, data handling, integration, and policy requirements across both.
Compare research depth and validation
For Lexis and Westlaw, compare coverage for the firm’s jurisdictions and practice areas; whether natural-language answers point back to primary authority; how citation validation and treatment work; and which document review, drafting, and analytics functions are included. LexisNexis names Shepard’s, while Thomson Reuters names KeyCite. The cited vendor pages do not establish an independent accuracy winner.
Best Value
Check security and governance before use
For any AI product that may receive client or matter information, assess the actual contract and technical controls rather than relying on marketing language alone. Confirm retention and deletion terms, encryption details, prompt sanitization behavior, account and administrator controls, model access, and how the vendor handles submitted data. Then reconcile those terms with firm policies and confidentiality obligations.
Request comparable quotes
LexisNexis describes tailored pricing, and Thomson Reuters routes buyers to pricing and sales. Ask both vendors to quote the same jurisdictions, content, features, user count, and term so the offers can be compared on equivalent scope. Bluehost is the only one of the three with a public per-user monthly figure in the cited pages; confirm that it remains current and determine whether it meets the firm’s requirements.
