Pool and spa supply retailer Leslie’s filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on September 30, 2026, and announced plans to close 76 stores. The company says a restructuring backed by its existing lenders would eliminate about $685 million in funded debt; its expected early-2027 emergence from bankruptcy remains a target, not a completed outcome.
What Leslie’s announced
Leslie’s, a Phoenix-based pool and spa supply retailer, said it had entered a restructuring support agreement with a group of existing lenders when it filed for Chapter 11 on September 30, 2026. The company announced 76 store closures as part of the process. The September 30 report did not identify the locations. AZFamily reported the filing and announcement.

A later report said the initial 76 stores had either already closed or were expected to close by mid-October. That describes the reported status of the first wave at the time; it does not establish that every closure was completed. Orlando Business Journal’s October 2 report also said the bankruptcy petition listed more than $1.2 billion in debt. That figure is the publication’s account of the petition, not a figure independently verified here from the court filing.

What the restructuring is intended to change
Leslie’s said the restructuring would eliminate approximately $685 million, or about 90%, of its outstanding funded debt. Under the company’s proposed plan, existing lenders would receive majority ownership. These are announced terms of a restructuring process, not proof that the court has approved the plan or that the debt reduction and ownership transfer have taken effect.

Leslie’s said it expected to complete the restructuring and emerge from Chapter 11 in early 2027. That is the company’s projected timing; the eventual schedule and outcome depend on the bankruptcy process.
Why 76 closures may not be the final count
The 76 stores are the announced first wave, not necessarily a final total. The Phoenix Business Journal reported on October 1 that Leslie’s had closed 80 stores and one distribution center in the prior 12 months. It also reported that the company was considering as many as 200 store closures during Chapter 11. The 200 figure is a possible total under consideration, not an additional announced closure count or a confirmed outcome. Phoenix Business Journal’s report distinguishes those broader possibilities from the initial 76.

What customers should check before visiting
The reports available do not establish a complete official location-by-location closure list or explain what will happen to service, returns, orders, or other customer arrangements at a particular store. Do not assume that a nearby location is closing—or that it will remain open—based only on the 76-store announcement.
- Check Leslie’s current store information or contact the local store directly before making a trip.
- For an order, return, service appointment, or other store-specific matter, ask Leslie’s customer support or the location for current instructions rather than relying on general bankruptcy coverage.
- Look for a dated company announcement or court update when checking whether a reported closure or restructuring milestone has actually occurred.
What Leslie’s says the filing is meant to accomplish
At announcement time, CEO Jason McDonell described the restructuring as a way to strengthen the balance sheet and create more financial flexibility for investment in operations and customer experience. He also said, “Leslie’s is here to stay.” Those remarks express the company’s rationale and assurance; they are not a guarantee of future performance or a substitute for confirmed store-level updates.
