What happened to the Lenovo Smart Clock Essential weather display?
In September, owners reported that the Lenovo Smart Clock Essential had stopped showing its weather icon and outdoor temperature, while the time remained on screen. Voice forecasts reportedly continued to work, suggesting the problem affected the glanceable display rather than every way of getting weather information. Reports came from multiple countries, but no reliable count of affected devices was established. Android Authority’s September 14 report described the issue.

On October 2, Android Authority reported that some owners had seen the weather return within the previous day. A contemporaneous Reddit post also reported a return, while another commenter said their clock still had no weather. That contrast matters: reports indicate improvement for some users, not a universal restoration. The Reddit discussion reflects those mixed experiences.
Which Lenovo clocks are covered by these reports?
The reports concern the Lenovo Smart Clock Essential specifically. Lenovo’s support portal lists the Essential as model CD-4N341Y and the Smart Clock Essential with Alexa Built-in as model CD-4N342Y. The reports do not establish that every Essential variant was affected or has recovered, and they should not be generalized to every Lenovo Smart Clock. Lenovo’s support portal lists the two models.

Smart Clock 2 is a separate touchscreen product that Lenovo describes as able to show time, weather, and photos. It is not the Essential, and the available reports do not establish that it shared this issue. Lenovo’s Smart Clock 2 page describes that model.
Has Lenovo confirmed a cause or announced a fix?
No cause or planned fix had been confirmed in the October 2 coverage. A backend service problem or a change involving Google Home or Gemini has been suggested, but remains unconfirmed. The Essential’s support-page software listings do not prove a weather repair update: Lenovo lists version 1.52.2.0.1 for model CD-4N341Y with an October 12, 2021 source-code posting, and version v060 for model CD-4N342Y with a January 5, 2022 posting. Those are portal metadata, not evidence of a 2026 fix.

What to do if weather is still missing
- Check the display again later. Because the reported return is uneven, a blank display does not show that your device is permanently affected—or that a fix has reached it.
- Send feedback through Google Home. Open the clock’s device settings, use the overflow menu, and submit feedback describing the missing weather icon and temperature.
- Do not rely on a reset as a proven fix. Owners reported mixed results after rebooting, changing settings, factory resetting, or removing and re-adding the clock. None of those steps was shown to work reliably.
- Do not assume replacement will prevent a recurrence. The reports do not establish that a new clock would avoid a service-side problem if one is involved.
Lenovo’s product material describes the Essential as a compact clock with time and weather functions. Google’s 2019 description of the Smart Clock’s earlier features is historical product context, not an update on this issue. Google’s December 10, 2019 post described that earlier feature set.
