The “i” in IdeaPad Slim 3i generally points to an Intel configuration; IdeaPad Slim 3 is often used for AMD configurations in some generations and markets. That naming is only a clue, not a universal rule. Lenovo sells different processors, screens, memory and storage under these family names, so the useful comparison is between exact model numbers and configurations—not “3i” versus “3” alone.
What does the “i” mean?
Lenovo’s Slim 3i family is an Intel line: Lenovo’s current US product page identifies the IdeaPad Slim 3i as Intel, and its Gen 10 datasheet lists Intel processors. Lenovo’s US IdeaPad Slim 3i page and Gen 10 specifications describe Intel models.

“Slim 3” is often associated with AMD configurations, but do not assume every Slim 3 is AMD or every 3i has the same specifications. For example, a Lenovo Malaysia Gen 8 brochure lists both an Intel Slim 3i and an AMD Slim 3. The naming pattern helps narrow the search; it does not replace checking the processor in the listing.

How can the specifications differ?
The difference depends on generation, screen size, region and exact machine type. Lenovo’s Gen 10 Slim 3i family alone includes several Intel processor and display options; the following are examples of configurations Lenovo lists, not a promise that every option is sold in every market or on every SKU.
#1 Best Overall
- CPU: 12th Gen Intel Processor N100 0.8 GHz (4 Cores, 4 Threads, 6M Cache, up to 3.40 GHz).
- Screen: 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080), Non-Touch; 88% AAR on the IdeaPad Slim 3i’s FHD LCD display, which comes with a taller 16:10 aspect ratio on the 16’’.
- RAM & Storage: 4GB DDR5 Memory; 128GB SSD Storage
- Ports: 1 x HDMI 1.4, 1 x Power in, 2 x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, 1x USB-C 3.2 Gen 1, 1x Headphone/mic combo, 1x SD card reader
Processors
Lenovo’s Gen 10 datasheet lists Core 7 240H, Core 5 210H and Core 3 100U processors, as well as selected prior Core processors across the family. Those are distinct configurations; the family name does not tell you which one a particular retailer is selling. The Malaysia Gen 8 brochure gives a specific contrast: Intel Processor N100 in its Slim 3i example and AMD Ryzen 3 7320U in its Slim 3 example. This is a regional, generation-specific example, not a universal pairing.
Displays
Panel type can matter more in daily use than the family name. Lenovo’s Gen 10 15-inch Slim 3i options include a 15.1-inch 2560 × 1600 OLED panel rated at 500 nits and 165 Hz, and 15.3-inch 1920 × 1200 IPS options rated at 300 nits and 60 Hz, including an on-cell touch option. The 16-inch family also has OLED and IPS choices. These panels are not all available on every SKU.
The Gen 8 Malaysia brochure illustrates why you should inspect the specific screen: its 15.6-inch Slim 3i example has a 1920 × 1080 TN panel rated at 250 nits, while its 15.6-inch Slim 3 example has a 1920 × 1080 IPS panel rated at 300 nits. This does not establish that 3i models generally use TN panels or Slim 3 models generally use IPS. A separate India-market PSREF entry for the Slim 3 14IRU8, model 82X60079IN, also specifies a 14-inch FHD TN panel rated at 250 nits—another reminder that the family label is not a display guarantee.

Memory and storage
For Gen 10 Slim 3i, Lenovo lists 8 GB or 16 GB DDR5 memory and 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB M.2 2242 Gen 4 SSD options. The datasheet indicates support for a second 2242 SSD in listed configurations. Check the precise machine type for whether a slot is present and how it can be used.
Upgradeability is especially important when memory is soldered. The India-market Slim 3 14IRU8 model 82X60079IN has 8 GB soldered LPDDR5-4800 memory and no upgrade slot, along with a 512 GB SSD. In the Malaysia Gen 8 brochure, both example models have 8 GB soldered LPDDR5 and a 512 GB SSD; the Slim 3i listing specifies LPDDR5-4800 and the Slim 3 listing LPDDR5-5500. These are configuration facts, not specifications for all Slim 3 or Slim 3i laptops.
Battery and charging
Lenovo lists 50 Wh and 60 Wh battery options for the Gen 10 Intel family. Its “Rapid Charge Boost” claim is 15 minutes of charging for “2 Hours”; that is Lenovo’s stated charging claim, not a guaranteed runtime for every user. Lenovo says actual battery life varies with configuration and use. Size and weight also vary with screen size and display type.

Choose models in the same screen-size class and, if possible, a similar generation and price tier. Then compare the specific details below. Lenovo cautions that it may alter product offerings and specifications without notice, so check the listing and local terms for the country where you plan to buy.

Record the generation, screen size, region and machine type or full SKU. A name such as “Slim 3i” is not specific enough to identify the configuration.
- Check the processor. Note the exact CPU model and integrated graphics. The Intel or AMD label alone is not a performance comparison; use independent tests for the exact processors if performance is decisive.
- Read the display details. Compare panel technology, resolution, brightness, refresh rate, color coverage, touch support and aspect ratio. IPS or OLED may suit some viewing needs better than TN, but the exact panel and your priorities matter.
- Check memory and upgrade options. Confirm capacity, type and whether RAM is soldered or upgradeable. For memory-heavy work, a configuration that cannot be upgraded may be a poor long-term fit.
- Compare storage and expansion. Check SSD capacity and interface, and whether the exact machine has a second SSD slot.
- Review portability and connections. Compare battery capacity, dimensions, weight, ports, wireless generation and charging support for the exact model.
- Compare local value and terms. Check current price, included software, warranty and return terms in your territory. Do not carry prices from Lenovo Malaysia’s brochure into another market.
Which IdeaPad Slim 3 model should you buy?
Choose by the workload and configuration you need, rather than assuming one family is automatically better. For everyday use, first make sure the processor, memory and screen meet your needs. For frequent travel, compare the listed weight and battery capacity for the exact configuration. For photo, video or other memory-intensive work, verify the panel characteristics and whether the installed memory can be upgraded.
Lenovo’s Gen 9 US product page and Gen 10 datasheet show why generation matters: specifications can change between generations as well as between configurations. Lenovo’s US Gen 9 Slim 3i page is one example of a generation-specific product listing. Before buying, match the retailer’s full model number to Lenovo’s specifications for your market and confirm the warranty that applies there.
