Legrand and Karman announced on October 6, 2026, a planned integration of Karman’s rack-level power-orchestration platform into Legrand intelligent AC rack PDUs and DC power shelves. The first products are anticipated in mid-2027; no Karman-enabled model is shipping yet.
What was announced
The partnership targets power infrastructure for high-density and AI data centers. Legrand says its Raritan, Server Technology and ZPE Systems data-center brands are expected to be the first to feature Karman. The announcement does not identify exact SKUs, prices, certifications, retail channels or customer deployments.

What is Karman?
Karman describes its platform as a software orchestration layer combined with metrology and local computation embedded in rack hardware. It can be deployed in standalone hardware or in infrastructure such as power cabling, tap-off boxes, power shelves and rack PDUs.

At the rack, the system samples current and voltage waveforms, calculates electrical metrics and sends control signals to computing equipment. Karman says its custom version of the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano performs local processing, allowing power decisions to be made close to the load rather than relying only on a central facility-management system.
Measurements and integrations
Karman lists real and reactive power, RMS voltage and current, and power factor among its derived metrics. Data can be exposed per rack, per phase or at configured aggregation levels. The vendor also lists Prometheus, Grafana, Kafka and Databricks integrations. These are stated platform capabilities; compatibility with a particular operator’s monitoring stack will depend on implementation and supported interfaces.

How the rack-level control is supposed to increase capacity
Data centers often provision electrical capacity above average demand so that equipment can handle transient workloads and remain within safe limits. Karman’s argument is that high-resolution, local measurement can identify available headroom and coordinate compute power with the rack’s real-time budget. That could let an operator use capacity otherwise held as reserve.

Karman’s product page advertises up to 50% greater compute capacity from the same provisioned power. The October 6 release describes the potential as 50% or more AI tokens using the same provisioned power. Karman explicitly labels the 50% figure an estimate and says outcomes vary with power infrastructure and server configuration. No independent validation of that uplift appears in the announcement or the referenced product pages, so it should not be treated as a guaranteed improvement.

How fast is the control loop?
Karman states that its power-sampling, processing and control-signal path takes less than 2 milliseconds. That is not the same as the time for a server to react end to end. Karman estimates full server response at 20–100 milliseconds, depending on the server.
The company also says its local power-limit controls can adjust NVIDIA GPU power caps through NVML in under 20 milliseconds. Actual behavior will depend on GPU model, firmware, driver support, workload and the surrounding power system.
Rank #4

Where the Legrand integration fits
| Infrastructure category | Role in the announcement | What is known |
|---|---|---|
| Intelligent AC rack PDU | Distributes AC power and provides rack-level measurement and control | Named as an integration target; exact Karman-enabled models are not specified |
| DC power shelf | Converts and distributes high-density DC power to IT equipment | Named as an integration target; first products are anticipated in mid-2027 |
| Raritan, Server Technology and ZPE Systems | Initial Legrand data-center brands expected to feature Karman | The release does not identify particular SKUs |
Legrand’s existing portfolio provides useful context but does not prove that current products contain Karman. Legrand identifies the Raritan PX4 and Server Technology PRO4X as intelligent monitoring PDUs with granular outlet- or device-level visibility and power-quality metrics. Its materials also describe Starline M70 monitoring along the busway.
For open-compute designs, Legrand describes ORv3 HPR power shelves that convert AC to 50V DC for vertical busbars and IT equipment. The listed 1RU shelf provides continuous 33kW output, uses hot-swappable 5.5kW power-supply units and supports N+1 redundancy. Legrand also lists an engineer-to-order 0U AC rack PDU for OCP environments. These are examples of the categories involved, not confirmation of Karman integration.

How deployment could work
- Choose the power boundary. An operator would determine whether Karman is installed in an AC rack PDU, a DC shelf or another supported point such as a tap-off box.
- Define measurement and budgets. Rack, phase and aggregation-level telemetry would be mapped to electrical limits and workload policies.
- Connect compute controls. The platform’s control path would communicate with supported servers or GPUs, including GPU power-cap mechanisms where compatible.
- Connect operational software. Telemetry could be exported to monitoring, streaming or analytics systems using the interfaces supported by the deployed configuration.
- Validate the envelope. Operators would need to test transient behavior, server compatibility, protection settings and recovery procedures before enabling power oversubscription in production.
Oversubscription, protection and failure behavior
Karman says its controls are intended to prevent a rack from exceeding its power budget while matching available power to AI demand. The company also says a failed node leaves the managed rack operating within a reduced power envelope, while the rest of the data center remains available for oversubscription. This is the vendor’s described failure behavior, not independent reliability testing.
That distinction matters: a deployment still needs facility protection, server-level safeguards, configuration limits and a plan for loss of the orchestration node. The announcement does not provide integrated-system certifications, guaranteed response under every fault condition or evidence from a third-party test.
When will Karman-enabled Legrand products be available?
The companies anticipate the first Karman-enabled products in mid-2027. “Anticipate” describes a forward-looking expectation, not a firm shipping date. Until Legrand publishes model numbers and release details, buyers cannot assume that an existing PDU or power shelf includes Karman.
What data-center operators should verify before adoption
- Which exact PDU or power-shelf models, input voltages and rack architectures are supported.
- Whether the proposed servers, GPUs, drivers and NVML controls are compatible.
- How measurement accuracy, sampling rates and phase-level limits are specified for the integrated product.
- What happens during network, controller, firmware, power-supply or node failures.
- How telemetry integrates with the operator’s monitoring and workload-management systems.
- Independent evidence for any claimed capacity or token-throughput improvement in the operator’s own configuration.
- Availability date, warranty, service process, certifications and commercial terms once products are formally released.
The practical takeaway
Legrand’s announcement is a planned product integration, not a current product launch. Karman brings rack-local measurement and control intended to turn unused electrical headroom into additional AI capacity, but the widely cited 50% figure remains a vendor estimate that depends on the power system and server configuration. The meaningful buying decision will come after Legrand identifies the integrated models and operators can evaluate them against their own electrical, compute and reliability requirements.
