The INMOTION V9 takes real practice to learn, but New Atlas reviewer Joe Salas found it enjoyable and practical once he gained confidence. His experience is encouraging, not a promise that every rider will find the learning process easy: he began with no electric-unicycle experience, practiced in short sessions, and rode more than 60 miles before writing about it.
What the V9 is—and what this review can tell you
The V9 is a 16-inch electric unicycle positioned for commuting, with suspension, lighting, app features, speakers and a trolley handle. Salas’s New Atlas review is a novice’s account, not a controlled comparison or a standardized range test. He says he had nothing to compare the wheel against, so his impressions are best read as a description of one rider’s learning and use.

Salas’s summary captures the trade-off: “The learning curve is steep.” He also writes, “It’s hard to learn how to ride … but it’s oh-so-worth-it when you do figure it out.” Both are his personal assessment, not a guarantee of how quickly another person will adapt. Read Salas’s New Atlas review.

Salas started by holding a workbench, then made short trips between parked vehicles and practiced in a driveway. Only after building confidence did he move on to streets and errands. He found lateral balance difficult at first and said riding slowly felt harder than moving faster. That account suggests a sensible learning progression, but it is not a substitute for instruction or a guarantee of safety.

During his rides, his legs and feet ached, and standing in one position led him to stop periodically. He also noticed that wind affected both balance and speed. These are individual observations; the review does not establish how often other riders will experience them or how much practice they will need.
How the V9 rode on Salas’s routes
Salas found the suspension helpful over small bumps, but rippled roads remained uncomfortable. He managed hard-packed dirt and advised against soft ground based on his own ride. He also described the pedals as aggressive and recounted a shoe briefly catching during an unplanned step-off. He says he used safety gear, but does not identify specific products. The account is a reminder that dismounts and changing surfaces can be challenging, not a controlled assessment of the V9’s handling.

The wheel’s suspension is adjustable air suspension, and INMOTION lists 60 mm of travel. That figure describes the manufacturer’s specification; it does not mean every bump or road surface will feel smooth.

V9 specifications and manufacturer claims
INMOTION’s product page lists the following figures and features. They are manufacturer statements, not independently verified performance results. See INMOTION’s V9 product page.

- Safe & Reliable: Certified to ANSI/CAN/UL 2272
- Unlike traditional electric unicycles, which typically have one wheel and one tire, the INMOTION E20 features a single wheel with dual tires. This innovative design enables lateral self-balancing, allowing users to learn to ride in just 3 minutes, making it the simplest and most beginner-friendly EUC available
- The E20 is designed for simplicity and stability. Our proprietary dynamic self-balancing algorithm maintains both front and rear balance, significantly reducing the risk of tipping over. Enjoy a fun and worry-free ride with confidence
- With a 38% larger tire diameter than regular self-balancing vehicles, the E20 easily conquers obstacles without compromising balance. Inflatable inner tubes enhance shock absorption compared to solid tires, providing a smoother and more comfortable ride
| Specification | INMOTION’s stated figure |
|---|---|
| Battery capacity and voltage | 750 Wh; 84 V |
| Motor power | 1,000 W rated; 2,000 W maximum |
| Maximum torque | 90 N·m |
| Suspension travel | 60 mm |
| Maximum load | 265 lb |
| Top speed | 28 mph claimed by INMOTION |
| Range | Up to 37 miles claimed by INMOTION |
| Charge time | Five hours, or one hour with a 10 A charger, as stated by INMOTION |
| Body rating | IPX6, as stated by INMOTION |
Salas reports a weight of 50.7 lb, while INMOTION’s page gives a conflicting weight figure. The available figures do not establish a reconciled weight, so check the current listing if carrying or lifting the wheel is important to your decision.
Range and speed: separate claims from one rider’s results
INMOTION advertises up to 37 miles of range. Salas estimated about 25 miles in his own flat-ground riding conditions. He also reported reaching 23 mph, setting an app alarm at 21 mph and tiltback at 24 mph. Those are his observations and personal settings, not recommended limits or guaranteed results. The review does not provide a controlled test that would explain the difference between the advertised maximum and his estimate.

- UL2272 Certified Safety Armor: Passed 160 TÜV tests and 11 safety shields including fall-stop protection and overspeed alerts. Rainproof IPX5 core makes family riding safer than hoverboards.
- 1000W Hill Climbing Motor: Conquers 18-degree slopes like San Francisco streets at 15.5mph, 6 times walking speed. 3-inch puncture-proof tires crush gravel trails and wet commutes.
- 26lbs Lightest Family EUC: Worlds lightest UL-certified electric unicycle, teens carry easily. Slides into SUV trunks and office elevators in 10 seconds flat. Perfect for campus commutes, family picnics, and city adventures - redefining portable power for teens and parents.
- Beginner Progress in 10 Minutes: 40N·m torque single-wheel design eliminates training wheels, authentic EUC experience for beginners! App beginner mode with tilt calibration delivers pure self-balancing thrills faster than 2-in-1 tires.
- Night Rider Lights and Beats: 16 million color DIY lights pulse to your playlists. Bluetooth speaker turns night rides into social light shows.
Range and speed expectations should therefore be treated as rider- and condition-dependent. The manufacturer’s “up to” range is a product claim, while Salas’s estimate describes his experience; neither is a universal outcome.
Features for commuting and everyday handling
The review describes an adjustable headlight, brake light, lean-sensitive turn signals, Bluetooth speakers, a trolley handle and a grab handle. Salas also discusses RideConnect app features, including remote locking and recovery assistance. These additions may matter to a commuter, though the review does not independently verify their performance in every setting.

Salas says the wheel’s first year of cellular service was free at the time of his review. Cellular-service terms can change, so confirm current coverage and costs with INMOTION before relying on that feature.
INMOTION calls the V9 IPX6 rated. Salas did not ride in rain; his account of hitting a puddle is not a waterproofing test. Treat the rating as the manufacturer’s stated specification, not a blanket assurance that riding or charging in wet conditions is risk-free.
Parts and ownership considerations
INMOTION’s service catalogue lists V9-specific parts and accessories, including a tubeless tire, air shock, trolley assembly and power pads. This establishes that model-specific replacement items are listed, but does not establish their current stock or availability in a particular region. Check INMOTION’s Service Center catalogue.
Who should consider the V9?
The V9 may suit a rider willing to devote time to learning and who values suspension and commuter-oriented features. Salas’s experience suggests it can become enjoyable and useful after practice, but also documents soreness, discomfort on rippled roads, and challenges with wind and soft terrain. Since the review offers no controlled comparison with other wheels, it cannot establish that the V9 is the best choice for a particular rider.
Quick Recap
- Consider how much practice you are prepared to put in before depending on it for errands or commuting.
- Compare the advertised range with your own route needs without treating the maximum claim as a guarantee.
- Check the current weight and service terms if portability or cellular features are central to your decision.
- Think about your usual surfaces: Salas found small bumps more manageable than rippled roads and soft ground.
